Today;s Tids Issue 5.343
Class versus Crass: The eternal Battle.
You just gotta feel for those who went out this snowless year so far and bought expensive, shiny new snowplows. Wall Street gets bailed out for miscalculations, but not the shiny new snowplow owner. With the trillions poured into weather alternatives leg8islation, you’d think there’d be some left for no snow.
Oh nooooo! Forty lashes with a wet noodle for thinking like a victim.
One of the great Tids contributors sent me some scary data. While the USA is very strong on research and chip and software development technology, we rank at the bottom of the barrel in our ability to manufacture chips and chip manufacturing materials, and absolutely nowhere in chip assembly and testing. And then if China takes over Taiwan, where are we? Today, America lives on chips and vaccinations.
Maybe today in Davos, Janet Yellen will be asked in the meeting with her Chinese counterpart to ease US support for Taiwan in exchange for China not calling in their debt Thursday when we reach our debt ceiling limit.
The debt ceiling limit game feels a lot like extortion.
Talk is cheap except when you’re with a lawyer.
The Question:
Today is also “National Classy Day”. The organizers say, “Celebrate those who are graced with the ability to live their lives with class, passion, and who are driven to share it with others. What 10 women do you think the organizers of the day listed as having the unique ability of drawing others comfortably to them? BTW, this day was chosen because it is the birthday of one of the women they admire.
The Headlines:
--Markets Open Mixed; Dow Sinks, Nas Up in Mid Afternoon; Goldman Misses; Davos Getting Under Way; Big Tech Well Represented at WEF (World Economic Forum.)
--China Population Declines; More Deaths Than Births Herald New Era of Economic Uncertainty.
--Next Stage of NFL Playoffs Set: Buff-Cincy, SF-Dall, Jax-KC, NYG-Philly.
--Former Arizona GOP Congress Candidate Arrested in Connection with Shootings at Dem Candidate Homes.
--8 People Shot at MLK Celebration North of West Palm Beach.
The WEF is the most cost-effective way to meet the most powerful influencers of world economics. And perhaps pad your Linked In friendships! The big techs are there hoping to influence somebody into helping them get way beyond lasts year’s collective stock price collapse.
How come it seems all I read about now is basically about uncivilized people and people who think they are civilized and sophisticated doing sleazy things to other people. Maybe that is what happens to a culture when they stop going to church.
Today is “National Hot Buttered Rum” Day. Just in case the world is getting you down.
I have to get a little local, now. Mac Jones of the Patriots has been raked over the coals by hysterical fans this year. A lot of that comes from being used to winning big. Some going to his defense says, rightly so, that he doesn’t have the weapons and certainly not the OC. Last night the often-acknowledged Greatest QB of all, Tom Brady, could do nothing for exactly the same reason. BTW, this morning, TB fired Brady's OC.!! QB’s are important, obviously, but teams are more important. After all, it is a 53-man game.
You know that when I’m writing I am quite conscious of avoiding saying man too much and always consider whether I should write he or she or a man or women, o both equally depending on circumstances. But in football, it is still safe to write Man. Or is it?
MLK wanted character judging over skin color stereotyping, but modern activists know that skin color keeps the reparations drum beat pounding.
Did you hear about the guy who put his phone into Airplane mode and threw it out the window.? Probably not. He can’t get into twitter.
I never realized how quickly lawyer fees escalated. They must love meeting with gabby old people.
How about that creep Solomon Pena who was arrested for organizing target practice on democrat opponent's homes. Is this the new a America, a third world country full of chaos. This is disgusting to me.
"I have a split personality,” said Tom being Frank.
The Answer:
Actually, to me it seems like quite the politically correct list. #1 is birthday girl Betty White. Next is Jaqueline Kennedy Onassis, followed by Barbara Pierce Bush, Sacagawea, Princess Diana, Julia Child, Eleanor Roosevelt, Rosa Parks, Nelly Bly and Bessie Coleman. How about Condoleezza Rice?
The cross-eyed teacher couldn't control his pupils.
It is a beautiful day here. I’m going out and enjoy it. It’s been a while.
