Making sense:
“I look to a day when people will not be judged by the color of their skin, but by the content of their character.” --Martin Luther King
Don’t we all.
The great American divide of today will never close until we get past this “get even” era now so prominent in our society.
After visiting El Paso over the weekend, the Mayor of New York City, Eric Adams talked of preserving the American Dream. Who doesn’t agree of dreams of safe street and organized immigration over senseless killing and chaos. The mayor saw firsthand the mess created by Washington politicians, a neglected mess to lay festering by an uninterested Biden. Adams said, "We (Mayors of major US Cities) are not pointing the finger at El Paso. We're not pointing the finger at Houston. We're pointing the finger where it should be pointed, and that's our national government. This is a national problem," This is no less an e national emergency than a ravaging storm or angry sea.
Bald folks now have their own flight service: Receding Hairlines. (Don’t blame me, I stole it from a reader. Plagiarism can get you in trouble, Right, Joe?
The Question:
Name what some say are the ten most influential African Americans in history.

As I might have said in the past, I will never buy a self-driving car until AI driven Spell-Check becomes smarter than it is today.
Hey! Gina Lollabrigita died at 95 yesterday. When I was a mere lad, Gina was the dream of us all -- not Marilyn, Sofia; not Jane Russell. Oh well, maybe Jane Russell.
Gina was an enormously popular and respected celebrity, a very good award-winning actress, talented sculptor and artist.. And later became a highly respected photojournalist. She was dubbed at one time “The most beautiful woman in the world”. She much preferred to be called “An Actress” over the gender neutral actor.
Kids prayer at night: “If Biden's gone before I wake, I pray the news isn't fake.”
QB Danial Jones of The NY Giants looked all–world in the game against the Vikes on Sunday.
My conspiracy theory of today is that the hidden Biden classified documents are all about Hunter Biden activities in Ukraine and China. Now, don’t ever repeat this. It is just a figment of my fertile imagination.
Mandated wage growth for the unskilled may be applauded by some, but it is just another small element of the never-ending inflation cycle.
Some Americans select movies to watch solely because of Cast. Others think the Ploy is the thing. I’d rather see unknow actors in a great story.
The principled leaders of America acknowledge it is best for all and for the coherence of the country to accept the vote and move on from the past. That is, everybody it seems, except Congress.
One of the more loony things about football telecasts is the sideline reporter asking a coach what's going wrong when he is losing. I personally think sideline reporters are useless.
The USA is a wonderful melting pot of international flavors, great people all arriving legally under sane and fair imigration laws
A financial headline caught my eye today as a column was talking about the future of our 2023 financial year: “Netflix results will be closely watched as a predictor of technology company success for the year.” Yikes. Netflix, a company that assures more Americans will be comfortable sitting in recliners is a bellwether? There was was a time when US Steel was the bellwether for Wall Street. A company whose success meant that us factories were humming, and people were working hard in good paying job, when minimum wage was not a concern because it was then what it means, entry level. A first step to better things.
The Answer:
MLK seems to start all lists. Since there are several lists, Ill juts tell oyu the rest in no specific order: Rosa Parks, Harriet Tubman, Langston Hughes, Sojourner Truth, W.E.B. DuBois, Frederick Douglas, Mohammed Ali, Jackie Robinson, Maya Angelou, Oprah Whitney. Now as celebs emerge on a list like this, I’m thinking, why not Whoopie Goldberg. Nah. But I’m also thinking -- how about George Washington Carver, Booker T. Washington. Some observers mention Shirley Chisholm, Medgar Evers and Barak Obama. Then I’m thinking – how about Thurgood Marshall and Clarence Thomas. Then there was the first black Lawyer Macon Bolling Adams of Maine (1848) and the first female black lawyer Charlotte E. Ray of DC (1872). Another significant contributor to advancement was “The man who killed Jim Crow”, a lawyer named Charles Hamilton Houston. Bill Cosby? Nah.
Martin Luther King was good man who saw quite clearly the reality of the world. And his solution seemed sensible to all. But my sadness today is that it seems that some of todays polices have stolen his dreams.
