Today's Tids Issue 5,625
The danger of thinning:
I was going to start this morning mess with something bright and cheery. But it's a hard to feel good about a sunny day as Floridians wake to the grey of destruction. Americans will respond. They always do.
Peasants at the beach love to go serfing.
Do you get the feeling that the EU is trying to keep their economy vibrant by suing US Tech companies for billions?
AGT winner Richard Goodall will get his $1 Million in $25K before tax chunks/year for forty years. His real prize will come from hitting it big in LV. Watch out Wayne Newton!
The Question:
What Pope had the shortest tenure and what was his noticeable achievement during his brief stay?
The Headlines:

My Grandmother's name was Maggie Smith. Not that that means much to anybody but me. .
Two of Wall Street's darlings are under a microscope this morning – Costco and Apple. Costco is there because of a weak revenue report despite an increase in membership fees. Apple is there, and perhaps more concerning because the new iPhone has not sent the consumers scurrying to shops and buying sites as quickly as anticipated. This is understandable considering that most iPhones are still ok except in the eyes of early adopters, and even tech mavins may be taking a second look at available cash. The cost of everything may be having an effect on discretionary spending and the idea of purchasing siomething just be you want it.
Are we over committing military forces to the Middle East. Are we drawing down our weapons repository too much to support Israel and Ukraine (Military sources say a possible 6000 additional to join 40,000 already there. And Another Carrier). Thats what military experts in and out of the pentagon are asking. This becomes an especially relevant question in light of all the activity by China in the South China sea around Taiwan and Philippines. Are we even militarily in a position to respond to a two front aggression?. That is the scary question.
“Years ago, I worked in a natural, organic health food store in Seattle, Washington. One day a man walked in and asked, "If I can melt dry ice, can I swim without getting wet?" --Steven Wright
The new politics seems more intent is setting Americans against Americans when they should be setting up Americans against global enemies.
If you put a dryer sheet in your RFD mailbox it will scare away insects, spiders and the like. If you live in the city, there is nothing I can do for you.
Gossip columns continue writing stories about celebs that I have never heard of getting divorced.
Speaking of weddings obtusely, RI Olympic Swimmer Elizabeth Biesel got married to a nice Rhode IsIand man on a beach the RI way, barefoot. All the great women Olympic swimmers, Katie, Missy, Regan et al, were there but everything else was pure Rhoe Island. It was fun to see a celebrity loving her home state.
The best college football game this week is the iconic Alabama =Georgia matchup. The Bulldogs are a 2-point favorite, but this one could go anywhere. Of the rest, the so-called big-name teams are largely facing dogs, many dogs of past fame. But, once again, tomorrow's TV screens will be filled with college games interrupting Saturday news, and only one of them really counts.
My boys of summer are cleaning their golf clubs. I wish them a winter free of mental errors.
Word out of Pennsylvania is saying that Kam may have a problem in this swing state with the Catholic vote. Bided wasn't terribly popular with that group, but he got by because he was a Scranton Irishman. Kam isn’t, of course, unless she reinvents herself again. The media likes the abortion issue, but Catholics don't.
With the World Series on the horizon, I checked the odds makers. They have the Dodgers atop the field followed by Phillies, Ya-ya's. Astros, Orioles, Padres, Guardians, Brewers and Braves. In case you are interested, I'll be rooting for the Cleveland Guardians even though I don't like their new name.
The Answer:
Urban VII served from Septeber 15 to Setember 27 1590 when he died from Malaria. What is interesting is that he accomplished one act – banning smoking from church properties! I wonder wha else he saw about the future before he passed.
Have a great weekend, E-v-e-r-y-b-o-d-y!!
