Towards Enlightenment:
Just Days before Christmas
And all through the world
Caustic words are spoken,
In anger unfurled
Yet as I sit by my keyboard
I'm yearning to hear
From a heart courageous.
To speak without fear.
That we unite back together
To have a very good year.
Thank God for Clement Clarke Moore who gave us such a rhythmic template in which to express what we need.
Here we are worried about food prices. In many other parts of the world people are worried about food.
To stay relevant, Santa has a new reindeer called Hacker. It is very useful for naughty and nice lists.
The Question:
Clement Moore joined with a well-known cartoonist to produce the image of Santa that still stands today. Who was the Cartoonist?

Tonight, with Oklahoma playing Alabama, the NCAA College Football championship series begins. It's kind of a mess this year when you consider two of the matchups may be the result of the trophies for all mentality. Sure, Tulane and James Madison were strong winning their conferences and sure it would be nice if football could produce Cinderellas like NCAA basketball. But the differences in football aren’t necessarily skill levels but size and speed and depth. Ole Miss and Oregon will take care of them both tomorrow rather easily. Tonight's big opening matchup is Alabama and Oklahoma. Oklahoma coudl win it big. I'll be most interested in Villanova and Illinois State.in the FCS playoffs.
I was highly disturbed when Obama changed the name of a mountain that honored fallen president McKinley. And I am equally disturbed and maybe more so for putting the word Trump before Kennedy on a center to honor a fallen president, Who's Next, Abe?
A few days ago I asked the question about big retail outlets that have disappeared. I immediately heard from a smart observer if the world had forgotten the great Sears Roebuck and Company. How great were they for everything. Then there was Gimbels, Montgomery Ward, B. Altman, and Bonwit Teller. How about Marshall Field, A&P, and Hudsons in Detroit.
China has been on a madcap satellite launchng spree lately. And people are worried about the seemingly haphazard nature of it, the debris and lately near misses with existing satellites. There are also concerns that the mass of satellites from Chian will become weaponized and lead to an interstellar shootout. Not only are governments wary, but Musk’s Space X is furious over a 200 meter miss of one of it's Starlink placements. We may be hearing a lot more on this one. There's always something.
Oh Yeah, and Rudolph is crying the blues wondering if even he can find the way to guide the sleigh through that mess of intrusive orbs.
If the streamers eventually take over from cable, I only hope I don't have to buy an extra app to watch the evening local news broadcasts. And the Red Sox.
Remember one thing, you can't eat all the candy in your advent Calendar the day you get it. Patience is the virtue Christmas teaches.
The Answer.:
Shortly after the death of Moore in Newport Ri in 1863, Thomas Nast illustrated and popualrized the famed Moore Poem, A visit frolm Saint Nicholas. The collaboration was betwen the words of Moore and the paint brush of Nast. The result is the image of Santa we know so well today. Nast is known as the "Father of American Political Cartooning” and he created the images of the Donkey and Elephant for the Dems and Repubs, and he also led the way against Boss Tweed.
