It’s probably just me.

Todays Tids Issue 3,314
Opening Stuff:

Maybe it’s because I’m older than nine years, but it seems to me that Holy Week isn’t what I remember; it’s morphed into just another week for the majority of people. People don’t slowdown their excess. They don’t stand in awe of a sunset or a deeper blue than usual ocean; and tip their cap to God in thanks for the grueling punishment being thrust upon his son. “I did something wrong? Call my lawyer. I made a mistake.” Maybe it’s just me with all of that catholic school education guilt that swells my heart during this week of enormous sacrifice. It’s not just another week with sales, and Hollywood  gossip and comedians getting laughs by saying the “F” word in night clubs. It shouldn’t be anyhow. Fewer and fewer seem to stop and slow down and say thanks for the great gift.

The Tids web site: http://worldviewetc.blogspot.com/   has some new pictures for the brighter days ahead.

Mike Peter’s says that most of Snow White’s dwarfs were on antidepressants. 6 out of 7 were not Happy.

In the latest “Why the Stock market is about to Fall” analysis we have 5 reasons: --Two many Bulls versus bears, meaning that there are not enough investors left to turn bullish and drive stocks higher. –Valuations are too high. –Earnings Season Expected To bring more warnings. – Earnings themselves may be off from previous quarters. –Insiders are bearish. I’m thinking my new favorite word is caution.

I thought it was odd that the Providence Journal put the story about the new Exec. Director of the Newport Art Museum on the Obituary page. It’s “Museum”, not ”Mausoleum”!

The Question:
ESPN has just named their Twenty Best Athletes Of the past Twenty years. Who do you think they are?

Attacks like the vicious one against students in Kenya should be a warning to us all. These foreign incidents spurn ideas in the minds of home bred radicals looking for an opportunity to make it big. Are we to become the paranoid nation? Aaron Hernandez for President.

My favorite knowledgeable beltway insider was a little dismayed at Yesterday’s list of most influential conservative women. So I went looking for a list of up and coming powerful Repub women. How about one of my favorites, Kelley Ayotte. And then of course, there is Carley Fiorina, who scored well at a recent conclave. Then there is New Mex Gov Susana Martinez, Former Labor Secretary and Mitch McConnell wife Elaine Chow, Meg Whiteman, Writer extraordinaire Peggy Noonan and Mia Love among several others including Jan Brewer..

Another quiet observer of the Tids also writes to say he was aghast at my omission of Condy Rice. I told him it was because I didn’t know how to spell Condeliza. She would be always at the top of any list I wrote. Or is it Condaleeza? BTW, Spell-Check doesn’t know how to spell it either.

I always experience a rise in my bile when I read of kids like Audrey Dimitrw of Virginia suing a volleyball team for not getting enough playing time. The coaches reason – she was not as good as the other players. Am I missing something? Of course in this era of big money, getting a scholarship is more important than winning the game and sportsmanship.

American Idol has been making positive strides back to being formidable again, “a bang up job,” according to my ace music observer.. In fact the first of the big talent shows (Since Author Godfrey) is luring back some of them most intelligent and rational thinking Tids readers. They’re down to the Top 9. First, I enjoy the quirkiness of Joey Clark. She’s daring, has a good voice and brings a difference to these shows that often are dominated by sameness. Clark Beckham is probably frontrunner, and as far as I’m concerned Mr. Personality, Quaasim Middleton should have never been save mainly because he can’t sing. Jax Looks good but he performance often falls short of her presence. Daniel Seavy scrapes by with a limited range, and though enjoyable at times when singing within himself, I put him the category of not able to sing. Quenton Alexander doesn’t have the greatest voice but he is a good entertainer. Nick Fradiani will be a contender, especially if he can build a little more excitement into his singing. Rayvon Owen is a strong talent with nice tones, but needs to bring down the house at least one. I like Tyanna Jones, but she is another of this years Idol group has an ability to sing out of tune. But, I would put her on a shortlist of Joey, Clark and Nick which could make it to the top.

The Answer:
There are surely over fifty athletes since 1995 who could have made this list Number 20 is Sidney Crosby. Heading towards #1 we have Barry Bonds, Mia Hamm, Floyd Mayweather Jr. Usain Bolt, Brett Favre, Tim Duncan, Lance Armstrong, Lionel Messi, Shaquille O’Neal, and #10 Derek Jeter (Puleeease!). Next at #9 we have Michael Phelps, Then Kobe Bryant, Peyton Manning, Serena Williams, Roger Federer, Tom Brady, Tiger Woods, Lebron James and Michael Jordan. I’m sure you have comments. Lionel Messi for instance is an Argentine Soccer player. If he’s there, why not some of the other greats? And Michael Jordan, certainly an outstanding and dominant basketball player, but his glory years occurred mainly before 1995. And, how about having two drug enhanced players, Bonds and Armstrong in the top twenty. Are QB’s the only athletes in football?  Oh well, enough.

The Tids were a little scruffy today. But tomorrow they will be exhausted. Thanks for your enduring patience.
