Today's Tids Issue 4,457
Side-wise:
There are just too many damn sides
to every issue. There are sides within sides, outsiders who want to be
insiders, and insiders who just wat to get outside and walk with their lover
side by side. There are just to many opinions too easily seen or heard. You
have the right within the left and left within the right. Who are probably not
left or right but perceived as such because they don’t exactly agree the with the
perceivers. But, what the heck, I’ll just stick out my neck. I can be perceived
or heckled, ridiculed and misrepresented, But, I know who I am. And so do you.
And frankly, that’s all that matters. Knowing who you are and not being inside
or outside a box.
It looks like protesting
as trickled all the way down to normally sublime Tids readers. A unified force
out there in Tidsville is rising up, calling for the immediate elimination of the
Tids Entertainment Bureau’s America’s Got Talent reviews. They are raising their
fists and voices pushing for Cheeto briefs 24/7. The “Orange” want yumminess in
the tummy over a ventriloquist and a dummy.
Your choice!
“The only reason people do not know
as much is because they do not care to know. They are incurious. Incuriosity is
the oldest and most foolish thing there is.” –Steven Fry.
On the Dem front,
Dem and attempting-to-be-neutral political observers now saying that Elizabeth is
looking like the most professional of all Dem candidates. Her biggest competition
maybe Harris, both of whom are better at warfare than Biden. She though has wrestled
away from fading Bernie the title of “Most progressive Dem”, a segment adhered
to by about 40% of Dem leaners and barely any Repubs. A trump/Warren matchup could
be quite a tussle. Is there a Dem in the wings who has yet to show up?
The Question:
The HOUA communist accusations of Hollywood in the 1940’s
50’s was at several levels an interesting piece of US History. In 1947 the
historic Hollywood Ten was named. Who were they? Bonus: the first
congress convened March 4 1789. How many individuals have served as representatives
and/or Senators since then ?

Dem candidate Marianne Williamson
probably has some pretty great ideas... for a planet uninhabited by humans.
Is the nuclear arms race
back on? Now there is change in climate that could be most destructive of all.
Looking up at his mother while being
born,
Steven Fry uttered first words, “That’s the last time I’m coming out of one of
those.”
Friendly’s was great ice cream
and sandwich shop (Especially the ole’ excellent and scrumptiously delicious
juicy “Big Beef”) That is until it was taken over by MBA management who put taste
in excel spreadsheets. As of today, there are no more shops in Rhode Island.
But we still have
the Creamery and Awful, Awful.
There are 435 representatives
in The US House. Yet the news is all about just two of them who have basically done
nothing but complain. The questions: Do you think Journalists have lost their
collective minds?
There is a big difference
between sexy and racy, and sexist and racist. (Paraphrased from fry.)
As many of you know, The Tids Eternal Rest
Department from time to time averages a randomly chosen Obituary
page from the daily Statewide Newspaper. RI is so small that the paper touches basically
a microcosm of the SA – from an urban and academic city to suburbia to rural
backwoods country. Across all levels of income. Wasps, Italians, Irish, Polish,
Hispanic and every other ethnicity et. al. are represented. Today’s average
death age was 87.5. It’s a good day for old people.
When you listen to news people
or conversations from the people on the streets, you get the impression that a
lot of people believe that today’s earth’s calamities are firsts in human
history. Much of that is because many want to pin everything on climate change.
In 1910 a wild fire in northern western sates burned 3 million acres and killed
85. It was pretty horrible then just as it is today in living color on TV.
The Answer:
The “Hollywood Ten” were Howard Bieberman, Albert
Maltz, Lester Cole, Dalton Trumbo, John Howard Lawson, Alvah Bessie, Samuel
Omitz, Ring Lardner Jr., Edward Dmitryk and Adam Scott. They were all screenwriters
except Dmitryk who was a Director. To protect their money supply, Big H-Wood
Producers went on the offensive choosing to blacklist actors and others in the
industry directly (Over 300), or have media surrogates name names, like through
entertainment magazines or lists like “The Red Channel List” (Nearly 250) – like Paul Robeson, Canada Lee, Paul Draper,
Judy Holiday, Edward G. Robinson, Burl Ives, Pete Seeger, Aaron Copland, Howard
K. Smith, Lillian Hellman and many other well-known personalities. There was
much more to this era than the bits and pieces typically publicized. One curious
event was the establishment of the “Committee for the First Amendment” founded by
Danny Kaye, Lauren Bacall and Judy Garland who roped in Humphry Bogart to be a credible
front person. Bogie became irate after learning that the group included known admitted
communists like Sterling Hayden. He went bananas shouting down Kaye with “You
F---ers sold me out!” It was a time in
Hollywood. It was quiet a time, Today they are just somewhat more subtle. By the way, Wendell Willkie was the lawyer
defending the industry by calling accuser’s, Anti-Semites. Sounds like the
hollow name calling of today. Bonus: In 230 years 12,343 have served.
10,305 served only as Reps and 1,305 only as Senators. 677 had service in both
chambers. There have been 365 women in Congress, 131 serving today. Think about
how many more eyes and minds we would have contemplating our greatest issues if
we had term limits—perhaps with 3 term congress people and 2 term senators.
Old professors never die.
They just lose their faculties.

how come there aren’t more happy people in the world?” -- Steven Fry
