Today's Tids Issue 4,460
What does that mean?
If you all thought
your computers had caught a virus yesterday, don’t worry. It was just a terrible
day of Tids Typos. For this guy who hates littering, he certainly doesn’t look
too close for trashy typos. You can’t go through life blaming everything on
Spell-Check and AutoCorrect. I’ll clean up my act.
This morning after a week of anticipation
the investment community finally learned what Fed Chief Powell
would say in Jackson Hole Wyoming at the big Economic Symposium. It was basically
nothing, except that he would be there for the economy if the economy needed him.
Obviously, not enough to counter the negative news that China was escalating the
Trade war. But, if you read closer, he said a lot, “Because the most important effects
of monetary policy are felt with uncertain lags of a year or more, The
committee must attempt to look through what may be passing developments and
focus on things that seem likely to affect the outlook over time or that pose a
material risk of doing so.” Personally,
I like that sense of a steady hand on the helm.
Freezing rain
hurts like hail.
Pseudo Intellectual Pursuit, Department:
People read too deeply into too much which is generally
not very important in the first place.
The Question:
What Oscar Hammerstein songs are considered to contain
his best lyrics. Bonus: What President had at some point during their
term lower approval ratings than the lowest for DJT. Which president never
scored above 50%

From a disgruntled reader:
“I hate it when people act all intellectual and talk about Mozart when they
haven’t seen one of his paintings.”
Beware of people using big words.
I read where an Englishman said he has been amazed and amused all his life
about how Americans think he so smart simply because he uses the English
language better than they do.
BTW, did you hear the
rant of another Englishman, self-avowed liberal raconteur and TV host Piers
Morgan who was hating on the left for their concerted attempt to remove humor from
the human society. He was particularly irate with their new tact of going ten, twenty
years back to find a bad joke and then proceed to ruin a person’s life over it.
The skeleton
was trying tibia little humerus. Now, that’s bad joke.
Libs are one of those groups
who sound smart, but you really have to read beneath their polished words to
find the nicks and scratches.
Why attack Denmark?
Demark of all places, a nice little country by the sea, where a gentle Mermaid
welcomes seafarers to the harbor. Where Hans Christian Anderson wrote many a charming
tale, including “The Empowers New Clothes! Say what?
When the head
of the Fed doesn’t panic, that’s a good thing.
I have to give a few Kudos
for our Gov Gina for trying to preserve the state’s “Wave” license plate design.
Pleasantly understated, it deftly displays
quickly the appeal of the “Ocean “ State.
BTW, a professor reading too deeply
into the license plate design says the “wave” should be abandoned because it
suggests negative overtones about global warming induced hurricanes. Yikes! I
see a wave and I only think about splashing in it, or feeling the spray blasting
over the gunwale of the starboard bow slicing though churning waters.
Speaking of craziness,
how about that baseball game in Boston Yesterday. It took all of 12 minutes for
the Sox to win. Yes, a game between Boston and KC on August 12 tied at 4-4 and was
postponed ahead of the bottom of the tenth inning. KC played on Wednesday night
in Baltimore, hopped on a plane to travel to Boston to finish the game. Maybe if
there was common sense they could have waited til the end of the season to see if
the result would mean anything.
If we all liked
our arms, we wouldn’t be keeping them at arm’s length.
I guess accused Sex Abuser
Steve Wynn wasn’t hurt too bad after his Ouster from his Gambling empire, He
just bought a $43 Million House in Florida.
Sorry, I have to ask:
What Repub could gain momentum fast enough to give the Repubs a chance of retaining
the White House in the event that DT becomes seriously unelectable for some reason
or another. Being realistic, somebody somewhere must have a backup plan locked
away somewhere.
Speaking of Florida,
it’s not only Billionaires who want to retire there for tax purposes, but lots
of regular old people too, But like anywhere, there are better not so better
places for retirees within the sunny state. The “Wallethub” study says the best
city among 115 reviewed is Sarasota followed by Tampa, Miami, Boca Raton and
Key West. At the bottom of list we found at #115 Deltona followed by the other
worst cites of The Villages, Fleming Island, Navarre and Palm Bay. Sorry folks,
we just report the facts.
From a rascally reader:
“A vegan said to me that people who sell meat are disgusting. I said people who
sell fruit and vegetables are grocer.”
Now, I could be excoriated
by some readers who don’t want me saying what are facts about the President. The
issue is that we Repubs have to know the battle ahead of us to keep Dems out of
the WH and assure that Repubs comeback to rule the House and Senate. Certainly,
a daunting task. And you can expect that during the next 14 months that most
media will not suddenly go positive for the sitting USCEO. Nor will whistleblower
stop tooting about alleged personal woes. We live in a new society where alleged
accusations become the “truth” within tweeting seconds. And, getting the Prez reelected
will now become somewhat harder as former Trump pal Scaramucci has said he will
start, and fund, a super PAC to “Dismantle” Trump. If you think you have seen,
it all, it’s just getting started.
DWTS host Tom Berringer
said yesterday that the producers of his show should not have politicized his show
by adding Sean Spencer to the dancer roster. Berringer just politicized[RH1]
the situation by complaining about Sean Spenser.
Reading Between the Lines Movie Reviews:
--Ready Or Not begins at a nice family gathering at
the rich eccentric planets of a woman’s husband’s family turns out to be a lethal
game where survivals the prize. Might not be bad.
--Critics are definitely lukewarm on this next film
that is liked overwhelmingly by audiences – Angela has fallen. The Secret Service
Agent best pal of US President (Morgan Freeman) is wrongfully accused of attempting
to assassinate the Prez. Of course, the agent escapes and sets out to find the truth
while all of the US law enforcement agencies are out to capture him. Sounds exactly
like my kind of film.
--Surprise, the critics adore the first film from the
Obama/Netflix union, the documentary American Factory. This Netflix only effort
doesn’t look bad. It’s about a Chinese billionaire taking over a large empty GM
factory and hiring 2,000 blue collar workers.
All looks rosy until high tech workers imported from China working side
by side with us workers clash with traditional lunch pail workplace ideals.
The Answer:
Oscar and Richard wrote some of the most delightful musical
shows and 100’s upon hundreds of songs. A list of their to 50 best songs has as
number one “If I Loved You” from Carousel. Next is “Something Wonderful” from
King and it is followed by “Oh, What a Beautiful Morning” from Oklahoma, “Soliloquy”
(Carousel), “Some Enchanted Evening” (South Pacific), “You’ll Never Walk Alone”
(Carousel), “Do-Re-Mi” (Sound of Music), “Shall We Dance” (SP), I’m Gonna Wash
the Man Right Outta My hair” (SP) and #10 “This Nearly Was Mine” (SP). The next
five are “Eldelweiss”, “Hello, Young Lovers”, “Climb Every Mountain”, “What’s The
Use Of Wonderin’” and “Oklahoma!”. I always thought that “O What a Beautiful
Morning” would be a good tune for the opening music at a funeral. One of my favorites,
also form Carousel, came in at #46 – “June is Bustin’ Out All Over”. Bonus:
The five presidents who had lower approval ratings than Trump’s current 36%
were Harry Truman, Richard Nixon, Jimmy Carter, HW Bush and George Bush. But
unlike Trump, they all made it over 50% during their terms.
So, have a great and delightful
clambake weekend…E-v-e-r-y-b-o-d-y!!!
