Just sayin’ something

Today's Tids Issue 4.630
No egos please:

So, I am now taking sprint like walks around the city before this daily morning effort of mental regurgitation, brisk hikes while the sun in its purest form is rising to herald a new day. Hell, my brain might even work better. So, remember rainy days, early Tids. Sunny days, que sera sera.

Now I know the President gets tired of gotcha questions at news conferences. And, it’s certainly ok to offer statistics to show how the press may have gotten their reporting wrong. But yesterday’s rebuttal looking a lot like a campaign commercial during the Covid-19 briefing was way over the top. Understated is always more believable.

After the isolation is over, life in WW or AA maybe just beginning.

If you ask me, I see this stock market trying to emerge successfully through a confounding maze that will probably be a recession like economy. With lots of unknowns. Wall Street hates unknowns. Get ready for bumpy roads. Ok, if there is an uphill incline.

By the way, I have been and will remain a States Rights guy, despite the fact that some states have Dem Governors. That is one if the sacred difference that makes the US great over those countries with dominant central governments.

The Question:
Which 2 New England States were not Original 13 Colonies? Bonus: Who are Herbert, Bonnie, Nancy and Kenyon Clutter? Extra Bonus: name Doris Day’s top ten hit songs.

The Headlines:
--Markets Open Strong On Signs That Governors Will Loosen Restrictions; Investors Preparing For Mystery Q1 Earnings Season.
--North Korea Fires Barrage Of Missiles.
--IMG Goes Negative On Growth Forecasts; Expects Severe Recession.
--Aftermath[RH1]  Of Deadly Southern Tornadoes: 33 Now Known Dead.
--Trump Uses CV Briefing To Lash Out At Misreporting; Media Lashes Back With editorials.
--Biden Campaign Denies Candidate’s Alleged Sexual Assault On Staffer Tara Reade; NY Times: As She Pulled Away She Says She Heard Senator Say, “Come On Man, I heard You Liked Me.”
--New England Patriot’s Bob Kraft Said To Be Buying New York Mets.

I am really tired of Chris Cuomo ramblings and rantings. His ego is not important to me. Nor is Trump’s, if you are looking at fairness in reporting.

This could make a lot of people mad. Hedge fund managers in a concerted effort are trying to claim status as small businesses so they can bail themselves out with part of the $349 Billion “Payroll Protection Package”. Yikes.

I found lot of feedback to that list of Chess champions in yesterday’s Tid’s Q. Among those missing most often mentioned was Mikhail Tal. There was a lotta love for Francois Andre Philidor. Boris Spasky, a familiar name, was mentioned, but that didn’t get a lot of support. Paul Morphy was also mentioned by a couple as being left out. The writer of the piece, Rafael Leitao, did not dispute the vast intelligence or excellent capabilities of some of these, but points out that his list represents champions and not just players who play well; players who contributed to the growth of the sport.

The fattest knight at King Arthur’s roundtable was Sir Cumference, who achieved his great girth from eating too much Pi.

There is no question that a lot of the members of the press just plain hate the President of the USA, and will do what they can to undermine even his good efforts. Which just means that for all of those people who are hoping we as a nation of humans will come out of this national trauma with a greater sense of understanding for all opinions, fagetaboutit! Oh, let me rephrase that, the people may be understanding each other, but all of those who have agendas based on dividing the people will once again fuel the fires with in coherent venom. And unfortunately, many a good thought of cooperative togetherness will fall away.

One of the advantages a rank amateur has over the Chess Masters is that an amateur’s opening move usually gets the master to overthink. That somehow the person with no talent is onto something the master had never seen.

Maids are weapons of muss destruction. Groan!

Too often these days, politics has good people relinquishing their principles.

Normal is in the eyes of the beholders.

Tattoos may now be considered normal, but they are ugly to me.

If I say, I don’t enjoy the tune “Amazing Grace” people will nail me to a wall. That’s a new normal. Not being able to say what you really think. BTW, I don’t like the tune Amazing Grace.

Nor, Leonard’s Coen’s Alleluia. Leonard wrote a lot of songs better than that.

The Answer:
The US colonial population grew from about 2,000 in 1625 to about 2.4 million in 1775. The two New England states not of the 13 colonies were Vermont (Part of NH) and Maine (Part of Mass). This year (March 15) is Maine’s bicentennial as a state, but Covid has squashed big celebrations. Note, there was a Popham colony established in Maine in 1607, but it didn’t last past 1608. Bonus: The Clutter family was that innocent good family in the wrong place at the wrong time brutally murdered “In Cold Blood” by Richard Hickock and Perry Smith as told by author Truman Capote. Two other older daughters Eveanna and Beverly had moved out of the family farm home. Extra Bonus: A lot of people may forget that Doris was a big band singer before she became huge in moveis. Her top song is Sentimental Journey with Les Brown and his band of Renown. Next is “My Dreams are getting better all the Time”, followed by Love Somebody (#1 Billboard 1948) and then a favorite from her movie Calamity Jane – “Secret Love”. The rest are “A Guy is a Guy”, Que Sera Sera”, “It’s Magic”, “Everybody loves a Lover” and “Shanghai”

Beverly Clutter English is now 65 and her sister Evenanna Clutter Mosier is 68. The two have raised families and formed the land and Eve taught school. They have good husbands. They have stayed out of the limelight but they and many of the towns have worked to correct many of Capotes exaggerations. As Beverly English says, “It’s their life I want to immortalize, not the way they died.” Yes, the Clutters were good people hard working females with ups and downs like everybody else, with lots of love.

I like that story of two survivors of a notorious criminal act understanding the right side of life’s formula.

I like this tune, so I’m putting on the Tids today. That’s what editors get to do.
