Tids are used to Boos.

Today's Tids Issue 5,026

Always scary here:

The Witching weekend comes

With kids begging as

Ghosts and skeleton pieces.

But I’ll just lock the door,

And eat all of the Reese’s.

Consumers want to spend but can’t because of so many empty shelves. Interesting data just in shows that spending for physical products in the latest reportable period was down 9%. Spending for services was up 8%. Yesterday, Apple missed their earnings target even after the intro of Their new phone. The reason. – they can’t get parts. I can’t harp on fixing the  supply chain mess enough. Do you hear that Gina, Pete and Joe?

I think a lot of people are having trouble getting excited about a NCIS without Gibbs.

The Question:

I feel much healthier when it is fifty to sixty degrees outside than when it is a humid 75 to 80. A lot of people think I’m weird.

“Demons are a ghoul’s best friend."

The infrastructure Package voted in by the Senate is a pretty practical piece of legislation and important fix for the USA. It is actually long overdue as many undelighted folks were promoting the idea in the 1970’s and 80’s. But last night the Dem Libs in congress forced Nancy to postpone a vote on the passage still not yet ok’d by Machin Sinema, to appease the progressives. Why doesn’t she forces the Infrastructure bill forward to a vote unattached.  Let’s see how that works.

My Boston Celtics are off to a drab start and look disjointed.

Where does a skeleton go for a fun night out? Probably some hip joint."

The new Cable ratings are in and the top five programs are “The Five”, Tucker, Hannity, Brent Baier “Special Report” and Laura Ingraham, all on Fox. Number 6 is Racheal Maddow of MSBC. ext highest for MSBC is Lawrence O’Donnell at #18 The highest rated CNN program is Cuomo at #30. Don Lemon is next for that network at #36. In prime time, Fox News dominated with an average total audience of 2.474 million viewers, far ahead of MSNBC (1.229 million viewers) and CNN (819,000 viewers).

You may not have noticed, but sports is one of my main interests in life. I still live each game I watch intensely even as media is trying make something else rather than what it is -- humans battling humans for victories.

"I know some vampire puns, but they all suck."

Jeopardy fans are getting used to multi-show winners. But now after the demise of Josh who defeated Matt, they could be in for a long wait based on past history where may months ca go by before another contestant cracks that sacred five-win streak. But waiting is what keeps fans coming back, in addition to an occasional thrill of answering a question or two correctly.

The Answer:

With a 9% pay gap between men and women, Vermont is best. The next 9 filling out the top ten are Hawaii, Maryland, California, Nevada, New York, North Carolina, Rhode Island, Alaska and #10, Connecticut at 16%. The five highest gaps are in #50 Wyoming at 35% followed by Utah, Louisiana, Oklahoma and Alabama at 26%.

Have a great spooky Weekend, E-v-e-r-y-b-o-d-y!!

Hysteria Kills.

Today's Tids Issue 5,025

Lost in Scotland:

One of the worries today is that now that small groups have successfully demonized police -- almost all who are good people, earnest at doing the best job possible -- will departments forced to recruit replacements in the wake of this hysterical disparagement   be forced to lower standards? That is the worry for today.

I always felt sorry for Richard Jewell.

Did you know that young police officers depend on being hired by construction companies for road protection patrol just to be able to afford being married and raising a family? Yes, police have families too. You’ve seen those grieving widows/widowers, children, parents, tears pouring, after a husband/wife, dad/mom, a son/daughter has been ambushed and killed.

It seems that this year some of the shining lights in the NFL are dropping fast to injuries. The latest is a season-ending surgery for JJ Watt. Is it because they have to wear masks when not playing and aren’t getting enough rejuvenating oxygen?

The Question:

Richard Jewell was harassed and essentially convicted by the media for the bombing during the Atlanta Olympics. But of course, he was entirely innocent. Who was the actual bomber?

The Tids Pickers had a decent week, better than some of the so-called experts. 10-3 brings us to 71-36 (66.4%)  This week will be much harder, beginning with tonight’s great matchup of the week, Arizona/Green Bay. The Cardinals are flying and the Pack seems back. Aaron R will be happy that JJ Watt is down, but I still think the Cards will win it. Ten/Indy is also a good key game. Idy is just missing but Tennessee looked really strong last week, I have to stick with my ma Vrable and The Titans. Another traditional war is Cleveland at Pittsburgh. This is a very tough pick depending on which of these two shows up. Cleveland seems like a better team. For a different reason, Carolina/Atlanta is a good possible game too. Both are division rivals and I pick the Falcons. Dallas is rolling, but Minn is picking up the pace. This may be tighter than many think. I have to stay with Dallas even as my heart looks toward the North. Another key Division rival game is The Bucs and the Saints. Tehe halos versus the eyepatches. The evil pirates will beat the holy team. (Sorry, I worked too hard that). And then there is the Chargers against my beloved Pats. This is almost a season making game for the Pats who have only beaten the two worst NFL teams. I like the Pats are better than their record, but LAC is very good and at home. My Pats will spring an upset.

Of the rest, I have KC over the NY Giants, Seattle over the Jax, Buffalo over the sinking Dolphis, the Bengal’s way over the Jets, LA Rams not having a problem with Houston, Chi over San Fran and the Eagles nipping the lions in a close win. That really could go either way. I am at also at a loss about Denver WFT game. Another coin toss affair. The Broncs have let me down a lot this year. I’ll pic the Washington team.

I don’t know much about politics, but “Reconciliation Framework” sounds like public relations strategy trying to pull the wool over the public’s eyes again. Has anything actually happened? It looks more like an announcement ploy to make the Prez look good in Scotland.

Well, we continually prove that pouring millions into the school budgets doesn’t change anything. In the latest round of RI test scores, RI students seem once again to be at the bottom of the heap again, regionally and nationally.

Have you noticed lately that sports news doesn’t always say, X Team beats YTeam? It says XTeam beats spread in win over YTeam. And, I hear that the big casino ad gambling centers are trying everything to younger people into gambling. Which is actually quite sad.

The Answer:

The Alanta Olympic site bomber was Eric Rudolph. But I suspect alt of people think of poor Richard first. Accusations today are too often crippling to innocent people. But they sell newspapers and get viewers. And too often they support misguided agendas.

What’s the difference between a poorly dressed man on a bicycle and a nicely dressed man on a tricycle? Attire.

The truth is there.

Today's Tids Issue 5,024

And, expect a little pinch:

“I arranged with my executor to be buried in Chicago. Because when I die, I want to still remain active politically.” --Mort Sahl

Mort died yesterday. I liked Mort. He criticized both sides fairly evenly. Although both sides probably thought he was biased towards the other side.

But, that’s about it today isn’t it. Nobody wants to hear the truth if they don’t agree with it.

Long car chases can ruin a good well-written movie with a plot and good characters.

“I went to computer class with my Dell and I was bullied by a guy with a Mac.” --MS

The Question:

What are considered by 26.2 thousand voters the Best Science Fiction Novels Of All Time?

The Headlines:

--Dow And S&P Barely Hanging Around Record Levelers; Microsoft Earnings Very Strong; Tesla Becomes Trillion Dollar Company.

--US/China Word War Over Taiwan Heating Up.

--Dems Officially Introduce Mirage Tax The Wealthy Plan To Pay For Largest Spending Bill Ever.

--AG Garland Faces Questioning Over Politicization Of Justice Department

--Money Pouring Into Campaign Coffers Of 9 House Repubs Who Voted To Impeach Trump.

--Anthony Weiner Ex-Wife Huma Abedin Says She Was Sexually Assaulted By US Senator 10 Years Ago.

The Senate has passed the infrastructure bill. The House should too. Americans would at least have something they need and expect from the Gov, as opposed to the wait that comes from tying it into for something Politicians need to appease warring factions and get votes.

The most beautiful people in the world typically have a smile on their face.

Do you know what we need more than anything in this country? – a pure truth telling media outlet where every statement, every report is based on provable legitimate facts. No opinions allowed. Unfortunately, a lot of people still wouldn’t believe it.

Some mornings it takes to so long to write a Tids I wonder if by teh time I sed it, it is out of date.

Have you noticed that Dem leadership is actually bragging about having the biggest ever spending plan? It would be better if they boasted about cutting out fat from the bloated Bureaucracy Bonanza, and didn’t try to satisfy so many non-profits with their hands out.

The Congress should behave more like the semiconductor industry where the objective is always to get more and more from smaller packages.

“A Yuppie is someone who believes it’s courageous to eat in a restaurant that hasn’t been reviewed yet.” --MS

There is certainly a good chance that weather patterns are changing. Thats what happens to a planet floating out in space, when it is closest to its heat at 91.3 million miles away. Unfortunately, Climate Change has become one of the great manipulative tools of all times for politicians.

“A political satirist’s job is to draw blood. I’m not so much interested in politics as I am in overthrowing the government.” –MS

One of the all-time great contributors to the Tids seeds us this info in response to yesterday’s Q abbot the Erie Caal: “The Erie Canal (363 miles), the Chesapeake and Ohio Canal (185 miles) which begins along the Potomac in DC and the Ohio & Erie Canalway (308 miles) in the Cuyahoga Valley here in CLE are all built on the same model from the early 1800s to tow barges by mule and now the towpaths are all rail trails for bicyclists, walkers, joggers and sightseers and real gems of history that we are thankfully preserving.”

He also tells me he was hit by a Buck in North Carolina and it cost $7K to fic x. And it took forever because of slow delivery of auto parts.

The supply chain crisis is Biden’s biggest problem now. Fixing thigs like that is why we elect these people in the first place.

“I was on stage last night, and I gave a medical report about Donald Trump. I said he was hospitalized for an attack of modesty.” --MS

When you Italicize a dash, how come nothing happens?

Sometimes when I finish the Tids after lunch I don’t seem to see so well, and I figure I should change my diet. But then I realize it is just the potato chip grease on my fingertips smearing my glasses.

The Answer:

I like Science Fiction. #1 is 1984. #2 is Fahrenheit 451 followed by Frankenstein, The Time Machine, Enders Game, Dune, I, Robot, War of the Worlds and at #10, The Martian Chronicles. The next five are Brave New World, Foundation, A Wrinkle in Time, Flowers for Algernon and at #15, A Space Odyssey. Verne's 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea (Maybe that should have been in the top 10) was #19. One I liked, The Andromeda Strain, was #18. Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde was #25.

“Too much comedy today is vulgar, not clever. I say that as a comedian and as a consumer.” --MS

Mort Sahl could make you cringe. That was his job.
