Today's Tids Issue 5,012
Creepy, Crawly World Politics:
The latest new rage is America is better by far than some of the recent hysterically based trends: It is “refunding the police.” How great is that. It seems as though criminal chaos does not sit well with most intelligent Americans. Yay for us!
Thomas Wolfe’s alma Mater never had Homecoming games. (Thanks to Jeff Mallett for that intriguing thought)
The good news is that it appears that the great shopping malls of the 1970’s and 80’s now fading into decay will be re energized as warehouses for online retailers. The bad news is where will teenagers go, and how will shoppers get exercise sitting at heme shopping on a couch.
The opening of the final movement of Tchai’s 2nd Symphony has a moment or two that sounds a little like Modest Mussorgsky’s Great Gate of Kiev. I don’t know who borrowed from whom. But I guess that can happen when two guys are at a table in Saint Petersburg drinking vodka. “So, what do you think, Perte Ilyich, should I go Da da da, or da da dum, da”?
The Question:
What two words are normally used to describe putting up and taking down a tent?
The Headlines:

I feel for the people of Taiwan. Xi has said two days ago, “"People should not underestimate Chinese people's determination to defend national sovereignty and territorial integrity. The task of complete reunification of China must be achieved, and it will definitely be achieved, "Before that intimidation comment, Xi said he and China were, “vowed to pursue ‘reunification’ with Taiwan by peaceful means…” Yes “peaceful”, with the threat of China’s Ships encircling the Taiwan island. Yes peaceful, the way they eliminated the leaders of Hong Kong. If you have watched cheese history, this seems as one of those inevitable horror stories that could disrupt world peace. It is known that Taiwan is part of an alliance that includes Japan, Australia and The USA. Could this become the WWIII trigger we all fear.
Today is the Boston Marathon which is normally held in April to celebrate the “Shot heard round the world” and Paul Revere’s magical ride. Today just doesn’t feel right.
If you think about it, it really doesn’t make logical sense to replace a holiday to honor of a courageous explorer who overcame the fears of the existing civilized world at large to venture into unknown waters to open the western continent to an advanced civilization. What does “Indigenous people day” have to do with that momentous achievement. That is a problem with all of these hysterical wokeness rampages, it’s just too often nothing makes any sense at all. And it really is just not fair to anybody but those in a narrow, group with a loud microphone.
Actually, I carry a little evil I my heart too. I love to write in a manner that makes grammarians seethe.
I always wait to buy diet Coke or Pepsi on sale, constantly 5 for $5 or even 88 cents/per during most big holiday weekends. But now I see that the two big soda giants are trying to normalize me into regularly accepting 6 for $5, about a 20% increase! But being my personal elixirs of life, I will succumb. You may not realize it at times, but I am human.
The initial hysteria over the “catastrophic” California oil spill is now looking like a minimal event. That’s why I don’t pay much attention to big black raving headlines anymore.
I personally don’t think taking the life of a unborn child is a good “choice”.
I think fingerling potatoes are overrated.
Coming soon to your local town legislatures; “California Law has banned small off-road gas engines including lawnmowers and chainsaws. Well, the good news is that it could stop massacres in Texas. But this alarming trend of government take over of personal freedoms masks anything marginally good about this latest infringement American independence.
The Answer:
When putting up and taking down a tent, you are Pitching and striking.
I’m really a happy camper despite all my complaints and negative observations today. Sometimes it is just good to get it all out on day one so the rest of this Tids week can be more sprightly1.
Here is one of my all-time favorite songs. It’s a good segue into a more pleasant tomorrow.
