Today's Tids Issue 5,014
Not in the Headlines:
One of the weather predictions you can always count on is that the weather will be different than predicted. But my weather prediction today will come true. It is that I will be happy today with warmer weather and will be just as happy in a few weeks when it gets cold. Weather really doesn’t matter that much at all.
If analysts are saying it will be a “rocky” earnings season, does that
mean there will be no soft landing?
Today is “English Language Day” Yay!
I did a theatrical performance about puns. It was a play on words.
The Question:
What momentous, world altering event occurred in Pittsburgh 61 years ago today?

Just so you know, I wore my faithful, dogeared faded Boston Red Sox cap when they were playing just god-awful in August and September. That’s when teams need fans.
Pew Research Center poll found that from July to September, Biden's approval rating fell by 18 points among Black voters, 16 points among Hispanics and 12 points among women. These are the 3 groups that Biden won by a lopsided margin last year. Bill McInturff, the Republican pollster who co-conducts the NBC News poll, said Biden is stuck in a "negative loop" of setbacks and bad stories about them. Cornell Belcher, a pollster who worked for former President Barack Obama, said Biden has been through "a tumultuous period," and he questioned whether passing his economic proposals would be enough to win back lost Democratic support. Other Dem and Repub pollsters echo the same ominous tone about a big problem for Biden being able to bounce back from rapidly falling ratings. Repubs: Don’t Gloat, Don’t Stop working.
I met my gal on a dating site. We just clicked.
Is it me or does it seem like more private planes than ever before are crashing into residential neighborhoods? I’m only thinking, wait until drones achieve ubiquitous annoyance status.
The Virginia Governor’s race May be the bellwether for the Repubs national Campaigns to come. Tery McAuliffe running again is having trouble with his opponent’s major issue. Active supporters Of Repub candidate Glen Youngkin say there is only one issue and that is everything about the school system – the curriculum and the pandemic related health issues; that a Dem administration will advocate for policies enabling school boards, admins and teachers coming between Parets and their children.
My roommates suspect I’m stealing their kitchen utensils. But that’s a whisk I’m willing to take.
I asked an economist once why the Government excluded Food and Energy from their official inflation measurement. He didn’t know the answer either. It basically makes absolutely no sense. So maybe that is the answer; If it doesn’t make sense, do it. Just be sure you issue the prober reports.
In case you are interested, “Succession” to return to HBO Sunday night. They say the cast full of annoying dysfunctional characters are nastier than ever. I’ll be there for sure.
The Answer:
Today, 61 years ago I was in a hotel room in Pittsburgh sipping the last remains of a bottle of Scotch, saying to pals nearby, “Well the old Pirates just put up a helluva fight.” Then Tony Kubec lets a routine grounder hit him in the throat, giving the Pirates one more chance at bat. Bill Mazeroski stepped to the plate. The rest is world history. Whack! The ball soars and Bill begins the trot. And then his foot hits home plate. And he is mobbed by his teammates, and the fans go wild, in old Forbes Field, and well into the night, all throughout that amazing town. The Pittsburgh Pirates beat those dam Ya, Ya, Ya… Well, you know who I mean! It is a day I will ever forget, that October 13 1960. I had been a wandering baseball soul with no team after the beloved Dodgers were yanked away from loyal Brooklyn as. And that day I had Maz and Roberto and the rest, Murtaugh, Groat, Virdon, Burgess, Hoak, Skinner, Stuart, Friend, Law, Haddix, Face, Vinegar Bend Mizell and Hal Smith. Smith the Pinch hitting catcher who hit the 3 run homerun that tied the game 9-9 in the 8th to set up the Maz heroics in the bottom of the 9th.. Smith may be the most forgotten hero in sports history.
Sorry for the question. But at the time it was really, really big.
I think that everybody has a different opinion about what is really important. I have mine and you have yours and somehow, we all can get along. There must be something wrong with us. Getting along with different opinions. How odd.
No matter how kind you are, German children are kinder.
