Math isn’t Math anymore.

Today's Tids Issue 5,011

Education Enigma:

Isn’t it amazing what you can get done I a short amount of time? In the morning I’ll often see how much I can accomplish during a 2-minute microwave run. And almost always ia amazed. 15 minutes can be a beautiful life time. A lot of great things just don’t take hours. Of course, when you are older, every minute counts.

Do the Nobel picks seem much more liberal feely, touchy this year?

Today is National Fluffernutter Day. Dive it and feel caressed by marshmallow goop. Maybe a little sticky, but maybe a little comforting too.

If you think that your microwave is collecting data and the Tv is spying on you is bad enough... The vacuum have been gathering dirt on your for years...

The worst expression, cliche ever is, “Teachable Moment”.

A Michigan grad writes asking me to consider that perhaps that perhaps Urban Meyer being caught I a couple of compromising sextual situations isn’t such a surprise after all. I’m thinking, he says, that Former Ohio State Coach of U Michigan’s most hated rival was probably just reliving some of his best OSU recruiting strategies.

The Question:

I probably like espionage movies best. Who do you think are ranked as the top all time fictional spies?

The two most important questions for society, according to the Greek philosopher Plato, are these: What will we teach our children? And who will teach them? I found this after searching for info on an avowed Boston Marxist named Howard Zinn whose name came up in connection with the origination of the first anti-Columbus Charades. Marxists love the idea of tearing apart glorious USA history, ad tearing down institutions and, of course, statues of great men and women. What I found was that Zinn and his activist’s company have launched a nationwide Zinn Education Project in conjunction with the documentary, “A people's history.” The project is a collaboration between two ‘social justice’ activist groups, Rethinking Schools and Teaching for Change. The History Channel film “A People’s History” was bankrolled by fellow Bostonian Matt Damon and starred may a liberal form Glitzville like Marissa Tomei, Bruce Springfield, Josh Brolan and Danny Glover. Zinn and company have launched a nationwide education project in conjunction with the documentary. For instance, guides have been issued for teaching "Rethinking Mathematics: Teaching Social Justice by the Numbers" -- which rejects the traditional white male patriarchal methods of teaching computation and statistics in favor of p.c.-ified number-crunching! Yikes!  “NEA is joining with Black Lives Matter at School, the African American Policy Forum, and the Zinn Education Project in support of the August Days of Action to Teach the Truth.” I wonder what Plato would think about who is teaching our children.

Dave to Facebook’s Zuckerberg: "My Dad says You're spying on us...!"

Zuckerberg: "He's not your dad"

Today is the birthday of my sister, and I think of her often. She was a great, positive, strong, gutsy woman whose laugh could always be heard for miles. Sorry, but editors get to have fond memories every once Iin a while.

Are states looking ro castrate Facebook like they did Big Tobacco to keep their over the transom revenue streams going?

AI is a great technological achievement but the end result just has to be fewer job opportunities for People. What will people do? There’s another good question for Plato.

One of the sadder things in the new normal world is to drive past a once proud newspaper building. I thought of that when I drove past the imposing building on beautiful wooded land once a hustle bustle HQ for the The Newport Daily News, now perhaps better named, Newport Barely News. No lights on for a last minute late breaking Story. No Typewriters and word-processes clicking. Just somebody sifting through press releases and syndicated stories. Ad of course, writing obits. Unfortunately, they are also writing their own.

Newspapers can make it if they take the word news out of their name and insert the name Views – Newport Daily Views. They could be like a daily magazine with lots of featurettes and discussion panels. Thay can still keep people in the world knowledge loop with a News Review Sectio. But it isn’t news I newspapers anymore. Online had it instantly and so did people with the ubiquitous phone. But readers will grow to look for their daily taste of stories about flowers and food and famous people. Opinions on money and movies, and marriages and medicine. There’s a way to make this work. You just have to break olde habits. And that my friends is the absolute toughest thing to do.

Reading Between the Lies Movie Reviews:

--I just have one today – “No Time To Die”, the latest in the fabulous James Bond Series. It will be the last for Timothy Dalton, and it is a  good one. Bond retires but a spy pal says come basic to for one more case. And then the action is non-stop. And the story line is better than average too. I think I will like it. Oh, and the reason I’m only recommending one film today -- This Bond movie is 2 hours and 43 minutes long!

The Answer:

Number One fictional spy is James Bond. no surprise there. Jason Bourne was also one the best and should be #2. #3 is Agent 99 on Maxwell Smart. Good Choice!! #4 was Maxwell himself followed by Austin Powers and then # 6, my favorite Emma Peel. At #7 had Agent Kay followed by Harry Tasker (Schwarzenegger in True Lies), 24’s Jack Bauer and at #10 Jack Ryan. The next Ten are Perry the Platypus (?), Johnny English, Simon Templar, Napoleon Solo, Number Six (Battlestar Galactica), Sterling Archer. Michael Westen, Jane Smith, Secret Squirrel and Illya Kuryakin.

Have a great weekend, E-v-e-r-y-b-o-d-y!!

I may have to go undercover after this one:

A French, a German and an Italian spy are captured one day. The captors grab the French spy, take him to the next room and tie his hands behind a chair. They then proceed to torture him for 2 hours before he finally cracks, answers all questions and gives up all of his secrets. The captors then grab the German spy. They tie his hands behind the chair in the next room too and torture him for 4 hours before he finally cracks and tells them what they want to know. They then grabbed the Italian spy. Once again, they tie his hands behind the chair and begin torturing.4 hours go by and the spy isn’t talking. Then 8 hours, then 16 and after 24 hours they give up and throw him back into the cell. The German and French spy are impressed and ask him how he managed to not talk. The Italian spy says, ” I wanted to, but I couldn’t move my hands."
