Bombast kills.

Today's Tids Issue 5762

Below the surface:

Today is as good a day as any to make sure all my green clothes are clean and wrinkle free, and ready for Monday. Yes, the old spirit within does bubble up when an Irish melody brings a happy tear to my eye.

Joke of the day Bumper Sticker on Senior driver car: I am speeding because I have to get there before I forget where I am going.

The conflicting headline of the day says, Goldman is first major Bank to Downgrade the S&P 2025 year-end number, and even though they brought it down by 4%, it is bullish. Huh? Of course, the answer is easy. The 4% downgrade still results in a much higher than normal finishing number and certainly better than last year! So, all isn't lost on the Street Yet. Just the minds which are perplexed with nobody really having a sense of how the economy can work for a while.

The moral of that story: Always read beyond the headlines.

Tariffs are the antitheses of a basic conservative precept – free enterprise.

Just because nobody complains doesn’t mean all parachutes are perfect.

The Golfers are well on their way in the Great Players Tournament. It's amazing how an Island green can make a tournament a major. (Just Kidding) But the golfers look at the Players as a special tournament to win.  And fans watching it always get a treat.

The Question:

The US Army K9 D Corps Was inaugurated in 1942. Of 30 dog breeds initially examined, 7 were chosen for the first go around of K9 Soldiers. What were they?

The Headlines:

--Space X Launch to Rescue Stranded Astronauts Scrapped Less than One Hour Before Ignition; Company Says Concerns over Critical Hydraulic System Arose; Launch Put Off Until at Least Friday.

--Stocks Remain in Doldrums upon Shifting Seas; Dow and Nas Down Ugly at Closing; Feb PPI Shows Slowing Producer Inflation -- Inflation up 3.2% Versus 3.3 forecasted and 3.5 in January; Tariff Uncertainty still Overrides most Factors.

-- Potential Government Shut Down in Hands of Senate; Dems Squarely Against Part of House Passed Bill with Phrase Against limiting Trump Cuts.

--Putin Aide Says Russia against Cease Fire, Says Country is looking for Full Peace Agreement that will meet Russia Objectives.

--Trump Threatens 200% Tariff on Europe Wines and Liquors.

--New Hampshire Senator Shaheen will Not run for Another Term; Puts Dems in a Bind.

Hey, about that CPI inflation number yesterday -- Its that Core Number that doesn't include food or energy. So, if you are a consumer, you are still right -- it is painful at checkout counters.

I try not to repeat all these old age jokes that go around the internet as succeeding generations creep into years beyond 65. I haven't agreed to feel old yet.

Now they are going after Girl Scout Cookies in a lawsuit that claims dangerous levels of metals and herbicides in the delectable morsels. The suit is supported by the suspect data of a marginal research project which was legitimized when latched onto and highlighted by Joe Rogan, a highly paid podcaster who will probably over emphasize anything to keep the ratings humming. Check out the full story online. God, if hysteria can put the Girls Scouts out of business, what else do we have left.

BTW, if you missed it, Rogan signed a new $250 Million dollar deal with Spotify where he has been the top-rated podcaster. The new deal allows him to be available on other platforms like You Tube and Apple.

I'm happy to see Forts Bragg and Benning names back where they belong, though some of the reasoning was a little mushy.

Used Car Salesmen, Department:

Trump and Musk essentially did a Tesla car commercial on the White House Lawn yesterday. Don't you think there is something worng with that. But then maybe it was an SNL skit.

The world tongue-twister champion just got arrested. I hear they’re gonna give him a really tough sentence.

Just remember one thing as you go through life in this new digital era – internet scammers are relentless.

I may be naive, but I think vaccines have been really quite good for society over time.

The Answer:

The US winnowed the list down to these seven: German Shepherds, (Because they could speak the language behind enemy lines?). The others were Belgium Sheep Dogs, Doberman Pinschers, Collies, Siberian Huskys, Malamutes and Eskimo Dogs.

See you all tomorrow, E-v-e-r-y-b-o-d-y!!
