Despite being as young as I feel there is something each day that reminds me I’m old. Rats.
The Jobs creation report out this morning was quite the surprise. You read a lot about layoffs and businesses closing or failing and yet there was an explosion of jobs in Jan. Just this morning it was reported that Eddie Bauer filed for Chapter 11 Bankruptcy as their sales continued to decline. The Manufacturing jobs have also been declining. So where do they come from, Healthcare? There's still a pot of money out tere to support growth there.
In the same jobs report, the paltry 2025 jobs report became, even paltrier, being revised downward by about 400,000 jobs to 184K for the year. The revising of jobs numbers seems to be a new national pastime. As a good friend suggested, why don’t they issue the jobs report when all the numbers are in. What would be so hard about that, like waiting a month. And there would be fewer fits and starts, misplaced panic and euphoria.
Sorry, I got caught up in numbers this morning. They fascinate me. Numbers are supposed to be exact, unless politicians are involved.

Numbers that represent your age typically don't lie. And aren;t revised month by month. You just fudge them in your mind.
As of this morning, Norway leads int the Olympic medal List with 13. Next is Italy with 11, Japan with 8, USA with 7 and Germany and Sweden tied with 6. Stay tuned. Of note, The US won its first cross country skiing medal in fifty years. Ben Ogden of Vermont did it, surprising the world as did his fellow Vermonter Bill Koch in 1976. Remember Bill and the excitement then?

The Government publishes broad numbers that tend to say we are doing well because is wasn't as bad as expected. Except of course for those poor souls not working anymore. `
Its about a week now til Ash Wednesday. That is the day when you start believing the daffodil bulbs are stirring beneath the snow. And it makes you smile.

The best state in which to retire is Wyoming. It is followed by Florida, South Dakota, Colorado, Minnesota (Without Ice), Alaska, Delaware, Pennsylvania, New Hampshire, and Iowa. The worst ten are number fifty Kentucky, and going up to Oklahoma, Mississippi, West Virgina, Hawaii, New York, Arkansas, Washington, Rhode Island and New Mexico.
I originally planned Adele’s song “Someone like You” here. I like her voice but It was about losing love and hoping you are never forgotten. But there are only three VDay Tids’ Songs left and I’d rather be upbeat, so I went with this:
