For the year 1492:
It
is that particular beautiful special time of cooling days when
banks of Montauk daisies amass oer’ hillsides, cascading down to churning dark Autumn
seas.
As
a kid in the fifties, I always thought that Marion Anderson
was heralded so much because she could sing so well.
Based
on some of the things we know Justice Kavanaugh
said at the hearings, he could easily become the Justice who urges the sending
of more cases back to the Legislature branch. The fact is, that one of the reasons
Repubs pushed so hard for a more originalist court is to help end the judicial
legislative effect, basically a way around the Constitutionally prescribed law
enactment process. On a similar thought, there are those who think that Kav may
also try to limit Executive powers for the same reason -- to properly
distribute power between three branches as originally proposed and approved.
Melania
Trump may be the best spokesperson in the administration.
As
I watched NFL games Sunday, eyes rolling at times, I wondered
how many losses have been caused by basic player stupidity. I wonder if the NFL
keeps statistics on mindless folly.
The
Question:
Baby Boomers have voted on which Industries, Fads
and Products they feel are being killed by millennials. What do you think they
are?

I
have a problem with forgetting to attach docs to
emails. Now I think I know why. It’s not entirely my fragile mind. You see,
Yahoo mail has the little paperclip thing right next to the big bright blue
“Send” button. Blue is my favored color, so I gravitate to it first. In addition
to a brittle mind, I am great at making up excuses.
The
Houston Astros still look like the AL team to beat
despite the Red Sox atmospheric 108-54 regular season record.
Frankly,
the Sox look very vulnerable.
I’m
this, and you’re not, Department:
Think about vegans for a second. This is a group of people
who appear to dismiss other people’s eating habits as unhealthy, and certainly beneath
their own. This may be one small example of why there is this chasm of understanding
between those who may be similar in many ways. I talk to good friends who I
know are lightyears away from some of my opinions. Yet we agree on so much. If
vegans didn’t smirk at my KFC, I might sit down and have a little Bok Choi with
them. I guess we all try to preserve our power base of differences.
“Saint
Gregory the Great” by Ottorino Respighi is a nice little
tone poem for a Sunday morning
The
more government inserts mandates to govern personal
behavior, the sooner the masses will lose a sense of personal responsibility. Suffering
the consequences of bad decision was always one of the best educational tools.
In
case you missed it, one of the funniest, perhaps even
scariest moments in the history of the respectable Sotheby’s art auction
company occurred the other day when the Girl With Balloon painting by the
so-called street artist Banksy self-destructed minutes after being bought for
$1.4 Million. The faces on the officials were priceless as were the gasps from
the distinguished and wealthy audience. But, it appears that Bansky, a well-known
practical joker, had incorporated a shredder into the frame which was activated
at the sale. He had filmed the entire scene. He titled his Instagram post:
“Going, Going, Gone”. Look for it on Google.
“Nextdoor
Digest” is a national app that tries to look like a
neighbor information source is putting out a map that shows which of our
neighbors is giving out candy for Halloween. It will make it easy for the new
generation who can’t function without phones to find their way around their own
neighborhood. What’s next, making neighbors list the candies they care to give,
or kids reviews of treaters that may further embarrass them, eventually bringing
additional hosts of professional agitators to once quiet neighborhoods. Aren’t
we all getting just a wee bit over organized.
Note:
Sotheby’s is trying to convince the buyer of the Girl With
Balloon, that the destroyed painting may even be worth more. And frankly, I
wouldn’t be surprised if it was, having observed the idiosyncrasies of the
collector world.
Presidential
hopeful Booker is a smooth-talking Senator, but he
isn’t any more believable than Schumer.
The
Answer:
According to Boomers, #1 thing being killed by millennials
is “The Real Estate Industry.” The rest in order are “Relationships”, “Nine-To-Five
Jobs”, “Handshakes”, “Breakfast Cereals”, “Pants”, “Crowdfunding” (Created by millennials
and now abused to death by the same), “Chain Restaurants”, “The Hotel Industry”
and at #10, “Costco”! Yes, Mighty Costco is a victim of on-line shopping. i.e;
-- Don’t buy bulk paper goods. Just click it online and have it delivered when
needed. Other losers in the new era are Fabric Softeners, Lunch, The Diamond
Industry, Canadian Tourism, Bar Soap (Too Germy), Napkins, Golf, Breastaurants
(Like Hooters), Beer and Stilettos. I never liked stilettos.
Happy
Columbus Day, Everybody. He was daring, courageous
young seafarer who opened the world of opportunity to many.
