For Back to Basics:
Snow
fakes are beginning to trickle down around the country. It
will even be cold enough around her to generate a beautiful blanket of white. For
some the first flake upon a cold nose, triggers thoughts of southern sun and
palm trees waving beside aqua seas. But to me, I think of flannel shirts and warms
fires, glistening white landscapes, animal tracks upon barren hillsides. Am of course
orange golf balls buried in fluffy white greens.
Littering
is a form of civic vandalism that I abhor. But what
makes me madder is wanton vandalism” by kids and ten oft resultant excuse, “Just
doing what kids do.” What kids should just be doing is learning about respect
and responsibility.
BTW,
a wag said this the other day about millennials. “I remember watching all those whining kids throwing
tantrums in public places, and thinking to myself, God help us when they grow
up. Well, they have.”
But
then, young adults seem brighter than ever and more advanced
at young ages.
The
Question:
Who wrote the book Liber Abaci, and why is it
important?

Correction:
Yesterday
I quoted a story from the Boston Globe that said Warren’s Indian heritage
possibilities were from 1/32 to 1/512 native American. IN a series of corrections,
the ever-stubborn Globe arrived at the new numbers of 1/64 to 1/1024 Indian for
their favorite socialist. Several genealogists have pointed out that the wannabe
Presidential candidate’s Indian heritage is actually below the avenge of all Americans.
This means, based on her judgment, almost all Americans could now qualify for minority
status on applications where being a minority is an advantage.
Did
you know that the alleged murdered journalist Jamal Khashoggi
is the nephew of the famous, or infamous worlds rashest arms dealer of yore, Adnan
Khashoggi. Remember him, the one-time richest man in the world, until Bill Gates
came along. Well, Adnan sold his yacht for $30 Million to a youngish US realtor
– Donald Trump. And, so goes the small world in the upper circles.
The

I say Corn?
The
fictitious interest rate situation of the past 7- or 8
years has given us an economy with ne experience in pain. But now, the return
of rising interest is playing a role in corporate decision making and we could
see less stability going forward. Rising rates will affect business directly
and definitely indirectly as consumers see higher costs and perhaps become more
judicious in spending. Higher rates will affect the cost of maintaining large killer
pensions, and the purchase of capital equipment, among other effects. The new
rates are just seeping into the economy, but, it isn’t too early to become
aware of possible ramifications.
The
moment when Ally came on stage in A Star Is Born it a
highly rewarding, emotionally charged entertainment moment, and unfortunately,
the high point in this musical drama. How to you top that? How can sketchy
dialog hold the attention of audiences waiting for the next heart shaking crescendo?
What came home to me while watching the
hit film was that raw emotional music on a stage is far more entertaining than
choreographed lightweight contemporary music for commercial purposes. Light
shows and glitzy dancers can’t match the feelings of raw, powerful emotion.
This
is why todays manufactured musical productions leave
me cold. No matter how loud the singers screech
‘
Of
course, this comes from a guy wo still can’t get out of his
mind Doris Day and Gordon MacRae singing “Tea for Two.”
“Died
accidentally during Interrogation”? That is supposed to make
SA look like the good guys. Political excuse making is out of hand. Not even a gullible
public will believe that one.
Say
it ain’t so, Ed Herlihy. It appears that millennials are
indeed in charge as it is reported that good old American cheese could be on
the way out as the young crowd prefers Asiago and smoked Gouda. In 2020 , the campaign
slogan could be “Make American Cheese Great Again>”
Line
of the Day is from Tucker Carlson: “Fauxcahontas is on the warpath.”
There
is nothing new in TV shows soley focused on bashing Trump.
The
Answer:
If you happen to stumble across an issue of Liber
Abaci, run, don’t walk to your nearest safety deposit box. You could match Jeff
Bezos in wealth on that one. This book was written in about 1202 by the amazing
Fabonacci. It is the book that changed the world. It is this book by the leading
mathematician of the day, Leonardo of Pisa, better known as by his nickname
Fabonacci that popularized he use of Arabic numerals over cumbersome Roman
Numbers which greatly facilitated calculating, a true prize for bankers and all
commercial operations. It set up trials for division and the use of fractions...and
much more. He basically simplified everything by applying his 0-9 theory of calculation,
and making it easy to understand.
A
little ditty to keep you giddy all day long:
