For Sulawesi:
What
bothers me most these days is the disaster in Indonesia. I
think of the millions who had to endure the sudden extreme violence of a major earthquake
followed by an overwhelming Tsunami and now today, a Volcanic eruption. How
much more can beat-down humans take? And in the face of that destruction were regular
people going about their daily routines, suddenly helpless against inconceivable
forces of nature. Yes, the earth itself is capable of wiping out civilizations.
Yet over here we create headline grabbing controversaries out of nits and gnats.
Yes, here where people can have it all at some level, walk on, while the masses
often in less fortunate parts of the world wonder if the next day will ever
come. I see the fear in innocents’ eyes, and my heart sinks. I cry.
The
Tids is offering major mea culpa’s this morning after
readers, and in particular one heartbroken old friend, noted with dismay that
the new A Star Is Born would be the fourth and not the third iteration. Yes, the
one even I now remember most was left wandering in the foggy side of this aging
mind – A Star is Born starring the incomparable Judy Garland. This 1954
version, #2, starred Judy along with James Mason. And, who could ever forget
that oft-seen picture of Judy looking quite innocent with short hair, hands
spread wide aside her face. Judy was nominated for Best Actress, but lost out
to Grace Kelly in Country Girl. Also in the cast, was Jack Carter, Broderick
Crawford and the woman who gained her fame as “Miss Kitty” on Gunsmoke – Amanda
Blake.
I’m
thinking of opening a new restaurant called “We’ve Got the
Gravy”. I think it will work. But, maybe not in Rhode Island.
Who
you are is far more important than what you are.

The
Question:
In 1789 George Washington declared November 26 as a
day Of Thanksgiving. What for? Bonus:
Which President eventually took this Thanksgiving Day and made it permanent for
the Last Thursday in November?

The
average working adults with bills to pay and report cards to
read, will eventually tire of the Kavanaugh harangue, if they haven’t already.
But the Anti’s never will. This is their job. That is one of the growing
problems in US life – the working people will never be able to combat the
activists whose business is activism. And their so-called representatives will
be lobbied by activist lobbies. And, all of the peeps out there are subsect to
what is reported by the press, and misreported by social media. Tis a
puzzlement!
Did
you hear about the electrician who became a tailor
because he knew how to fix shorts?
Most
towns in Southeastern New England have streets named “Ferry

Tis
week sales taxes on eCommerce sales went into effect in
Alabama, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan, Minnesota, New Jersey, North
Dakota, Washington and Wisconsin. Sales taxes in South Dakota, Hawaii,
Tennessee, Vermont and Mississippi went into effect followintng the SD versus
Wayfair SC decisions. It is expected that cash deficient Connecticut along with
NC, Georgia, Iowa, Louisiana, Nebraska and Utah will begin in the next couple
of months. Rhode Island would really, really like to join them, but they can’t
figure out how to get their computers working.
Trump
should not be mocking the Kav accuser. Period.
I
see where the word “Tailgating” has been changed to
“Pregaming”. Why?
The

My
guess is that the NY State Attorney General leaked the Trump

You like “Heart”, Nancy Wilson says the singers of
Barracuda, Crazy on You and What About Love will be hitting the road again.
Last
night on Voice another grizzled country singer, Chris
Kroeze, stood out to me. The final singer, Sandyredd, got four chair turns, but
I didn’t get the enthusiasm. There were pick surprises when first Adam and then
Kelly beat out Jennifer for strong pop singers.
So far in my opinion, Kelley and Blake are snagging some of the best, Jennifer,
surprisingly, looks weakest, and Adam seems to be ahead of schedule.
Voting
by Genitalia, Department:
It seems inherently bad for any democracy to vote in
leaders mainly because of their gender, race, ethnicity, religion and yes, even
political party. Even more dismaying, the concept assumes that all people of one
gender, race, ethnicity, religion and yes, political party, think in unison. It
is crazy on its surface.
In
case you have been blinded by all the publicity,
Consumer Reports says that the Number one Smart Phone is still Galaxy Note 9. Consumer
watchdog says iPhone XS has a better battery, but not up to the length predictions
in the announcement. The camera is only marginally better than the earlier
versions, says CR testers.

George Washington wanted a day of Thanksgiving to
Express Gratitude for the Creation of the United States of America. Bonus: Thanksgiving Day was placed as
the last Thursday in November by Abe Lincoln.
