It doesn’t feel like Christmas.

Today's Tids Issue 4,515
Just the facts mam':

In the event you have been on a 12-month cruise in a nuke submarine in frigid waters ‘neath the North Pole, one year from today will be the USA big-changeover-or-not election. Here are the current odds from Wall Street Predictions: Dems Retain House – 74%; Dems pick up Presidency – 54%; Repubs retain Senate 65%.

There has been a lot of discussion lately about America going to the 4-day work week (Popular in Europe). Advocates say it would be more productive for businesses and employees would have more time for their families. People who love their jobs and enjoy working are saying what am I going to do without my work – “I hate it”. Psychologists say that it will put more pressure on people in the workplace to do much more in less time. I say what are lot of these people going to do with their free time – get in their cars and travel to my town and tour? How much more money will they need to make in a shorter week to pay for all of the expanded free time activities. It sounds like one of those real collateral damage things to me. But, that’s what social scientists do.

Sean Spicer continues to win the people’s vote on DWTS, as the judges eyeballs roll like beachballs in a shifting wind. Let’s get something straight – Sean can’t dance, at least to these amateur eyes. But it appears that the Conservatives of American keep on voting and the judges are running out of patience and their ability to suppress their obvious bias against what Sean stands for. Having fun in America gets tougher and tougher.

But then, is there is ever anything more fun, more humorous than an exasperated liberal.

Have you ever noticed how many celebrities have been listed as “personality” on TV? That probably means that they have no talent other than the guts to talk incessantly before cameras

What if your dog realizes that your body is just sack full of bones?

Weather people are saying we may experience a coldest day record this weekend. This maybe the end of sockless days.

The Question:
Who was John Hanson? Bonus: Who was the first woman US governor duly elected by the public?

Analytically speaking, the 2020 election is a tossup, regardless of emotional political reports and assumptions. It is quite true that millions of Repubs do not like the demeanor of the Prez, but they find little to vote for in the current slate of Dems. Surprisingly to many, there are many Repubs or conservatives or whatever these parties are today, who actually think the language of the Prez is just what the denizens of DC need to hear. And many of those are younger voters, it seems. The key in this election will be independents for sure. As today most elections are independent swayed. And whether or not impeachment is hurting Dems more than the impeachee. Frankly, I think it is all crazy.

If everybody in the world blinked at the exact same time, nobody would ever know.

The ten states with the highest percentage usage of Marijuana are Alaska, Vermont, Colorado, New Hampshire, Massachusetts, Oregon, Rhode Island, DC, Maine and Washington. No wonder all of these states are going Democrat.

That haze you see in New England is not due to Climate change.

Mexico needs help in its war against the drug cartels.

Speaking workplace changes, it seems that the continuing rise of double income families, if anything, has basically succeeded in pushing up the cost of child care.

The end of “Lockups” has a way of softening the appearance of Nadaq’s strength.  It was a big factor at the end of the Dot Com bubble.

Another of the new social reforms is this one called redefining felonies to misdemeanors. On one hand it is an incentive to commit petty theft. On the other it’s a way to reduce non-violent prison populations and the resultant costs. But as some say, while we are reducing the penalties of getting caught, are we doing enough to slow the problem of committing crimes in the first place.

And why don’t we care about the emotions and losses of those who are robbed. One person’s petty theft is another person’s major loss.

If you need a good example of how emotional enthusiasm can only get you so far, look at Beto O’Rourke. Millions jumped on board for him before actually knowing who he was.

From the viewpoint of chairs, humans are basically butts.

There is nothing that illustrates modern day cultural silliness better than the manufactured controversy over a simple little tune, “Baby its Cold Outside.” Especially when you consider the violence and sexual innuendo, and more, every night on prime-time TV.

There are too many Christmas commercials almost two months before Christmas, and certainly way too many political commercials a year before the election. Why don’t they want to leave us alone?

Personally, I dislike my space being assaulted every day by some aspect of some politician’s personal aspirations.

Really, how many people fully understand Einstein’s theory of relativity?

The Answer:
John Hanson was the first “President of the United Sates”. Yes, in 1781, after the ratification of the Articles of Confederation by all states, he from Maryland was voted to be the Chairman of the Continental Congress which automatically gave him the title of President of the US. There is controversy though. What would you expect in these days of Americans changing history? It appears tat Samuel Huntington in1779 was the first, but he was not elected for a full year and the Articles of Confederation hand not been fully ratified. Another man Thomas McKean also was also temporarily elected in 1781, But, Hanson was the first for a full term after AoC.  Bonus: Speaking of qualifying historical records, Governor Ella T. Grasso of Connecticut. was not the first woman to be a Governor of a state, but she was the first woman elected by voters, not being named to fill the role after the death of a husband.

There are lots of ways to look at things. As long as there are enough facts presented to grasp what’s really being said, then history, theories and philosophies will be ok.

Think about the sinking of the Titanic for a moment. It must have seemed a true miracle for the lobsters in the kitchen.
