When will it end.

Today's Tids Issue 6,046

Learning:

I had a humorous opener planned for today, but theres nothing funny about assassination attempts regardless of political affiliation. Mass shootings now seem like a weekly event. And Saturday was an attempt to wipe out the top of America. How do we stop the killing mentality. And the sad thing about Saturday night is that some people in the country were hoping the killer succeeded. I seem to be all over the place with this, but that’s the trouble with potential national tragedies, It's hard to find the logic.

People probably felt similarly when a man out of nowhere shot and killed William McKinley while he was shaking hands in public. The man Leon Czolgosz said he wasn't sorry he did it. He said he did it for all the good people. Sounds just like Cole Tomas Allen. The McKimley assassination instigated the establishment of the permanent Secret Service. There will always be a Leon or Cole it seems.

We need a greater sense of kindness in America and less of a division. I don't believe the divide between human hearts is as great as national repertoire would have you believe. I think people would rather believe in each other over always finding fault

Choosing an Everything-on-It Bagel is an early sign of FOMOitis

The Question:

What is the percentage turnout of Voting Age Americans in Presidential elections?

The Headlines:

I was hoping for a sunny day last week, but the plants were happier with the rain.

A lazy Congress is one where they are fixated on a lot of issues mainly designed to keep them in power. They leap from partisan political argument to another. Yet there are changes coming for society that are bigger than perhaps anything before. Where is that deliberative body when you need it; the maturity necessary to guide us through the deepest waters. For Instance, an unleashed AI could change humanity itself, and who knows what for Americans. The House is for the people. Shouldn't the Senate be for the substance. Let’s get back to what is good for all Americans. Instead of who’s winning the political prize. Let's get back to a Congress with eyes that see.

I don't get the success for the national sandwich/sub chains unless there is a bigger demand for shredded lettuce than I imagined.

I feel bad for the Georgia people and the threat of massive wildfires creeping closer and closer to communities. There are large pine forests up and teh entire east coast into Maine. There are expanses of pine barrens in New Jersey and even coastal Rhode Island. And has been dry. We have never needed the guidance of Smoky more than now.

The Correspondents event had mind reader for the entertainment and yet they were surprised by the intrusion

One of the greatest things a human can do is learn from their mistakes. Unfortunately, in todays viral world mistakes can follow a human everywhere.

China’s giant footwear maker Anta is launching major campaign to take on Nike and Adidas. There’s a good possibility China has incorporated Nike innovations into the manufacture of their Anta brand.

Personally, I think a lot of modern building materials are cold and unfriendly.

The Answer:

For the last election of 2024, it was 57%. The four previous elections were: 2020 – 62.8%, 2016 – 55.7%, 2012 – 54.9%, and 2008 – 58.3. There were three elections in our history where it was under 50 %; 1996, 1924 and 1920. The highest percentage of 81.8 was 1860. Between 1840 and 1900 all elections except one were over 70% and the one that wasnt was 69.6. 10 of those 15 elections were over 77%. Too many people don't care today. But they whisper a lot under their breath.

Yeah, there's something about simplicity. Here's one that takes you back to a time that was just that; days that just weren't so complex. (Note: Jo Stafford had a big hit the next year in1951 – Shrimp Boats are coming; Their sails are in sight” Who could imagine hit song so simple like that today. Yeah, I’m old. And I loved my good old days. And I’m proud to say I was happy being naive.
