Today's Tids Issue
4,392
Achievement is:
In
1898 a policeman on a bicycle caught up with a speeding automobile
on Park Avenue in NYC. He then proceeded to write the first-ever speeding ticket
– for going 12-mph in an 8-mph zone. Everything is relative. Yet too many today
judge traditions and institutions from the past based on fragmented standards
of the moment. I say that that everything
in the past should be dearly preserved as lessons to help prepare for the future.
That all who fought and died for evolving principles should never be forgotten,
and always honored. We may be able to do Mach 6.7 today, but that doesn’t make
riding a horse to Philadelphia on dusty trail many years ago, less of an
achievement.
A
reader writes to suggest that if they had sent in the
king’s men before the king’s horses, Humpty Dumpty might have had a chance.
Hmmmm. Animals are lovable at times, but can they repair eggs?
Some
smarter than average Repub strategists say that the Prez is
walking a fine line in farm country; that he could lose that influential vote
bloc depending on when and how he gets off the tariffs. To farmers, who still somewhat more reluctantly
sustain support, it isn’t necessarily about subsidizing monetary losses, but
losing expanding market opportunities. Farmers are free traders too. Capitalists
who abhor government intervention. Oh wait, they do like some subsidies.
Remember
how we had to scramble when flat TV’s first arrived,
trying to decide between Plasma and LED? We will probably have to endure the
same reeducation when selecting driverless cars someday – Lidar versus Musk 2D
Camera/Radar. Or, perhaps something not yet on the drawing boards…er, I mean
CAD system.
The
Question:
Who allegedly said the following about whom: “So you’re the little woman who wrote the book who made the great war.” Bonus: Who was Jacqueline Cochran? Extra Bonus: What actor, who made it even bigger in another TV series, played the lovable Maynard G. Krebs

Yikes!
Dodie Gillis is 84.
Everything,
no matter how framed or disguised by politicians, is about taxes – how to grab
them without the appearances of additional taxation. But with the advent of the
electric automobile, and the inevitable loss of gas taxes, cities and towns and
states will lose a ton of money to waste willy-nilly. That’s why Illinois voted
to add a $1,000 fee to the price of every EV sold. Fee initiation without
comprehension.
While
we’re on Dobie Gillis, Tuesday Weld who played cute
girlfriend Thelma Menninger is the third cousin once removed of William Weld,
former Mass Gov and the only Somewhat-Repub who has decided to run against
Trump. Gov Weld said of his Mayflower heritage after being teased by Mass
Speaker Billy Bulger: “Actually, they weren’t on the Mayflower. They sent
servants over first to get the cottage ready.”
Could
“Leveraged” Loans to weak Businesses Become an economy
killer like Subprime consumer loans? Something
to fold into your investment cake. Is the oven too hot?
Repubs
are taking a lot of positions regarding their affinity
for Donald Trump. After all, the last thing they want is any of the Dems to
take over the Presidency in 2021. So, we got a segment who wants to be just
like him, many who hold their breath every time he speaks and many who are
dangerously close to voting for some write-in candidate of their choice. Others
accept his differences from the norm as something of a sacrifice for a better
America, to keep a great nation from sliding off a cliff. Two of the key issues
will still be the Supreme Court appointments and controlling the regulation
packages. Frankly, I just pray a lot for enlightenment.
There
are passages from Saint Sans first movement of his
3rd Piano Concerto that are about as beautiful as any music I have
heard.
I’m
watching the emergence of this dossier investigation and
the infighting between some of the early dem advocates for Russia-gate mess. But
there is still too much out their based-on conjecture. Conjecture, disillusionment
and hatred is what got us into the Russian boondoggle in the first place. But,
if it walks like a duck.
A
staff member is a musical note.
Then
we have pretenders like Peter Buttigieg who tries to come
across as a good old American regular guy for all, and out of nowhere hops on
the leftist bandwagon that has as its latest new agenda item to remove Thomas Jefferson’s
name from US society. It’s just one more form of book burning. That’s how you destroy a nation – take away or
demean its foundations. Thanks for adding to the lunacy, Peter. At least, we
now know.
BTW,
Buttigieg says he didn’t hop, that it was just the media overstating
his words. But if it looks like a hop and sounds like a hop, then it is probably
a hop. Peter Rabbit does it again.
It
seems that every week or so we read of a company or a government
entity promoting the advance of some gambling venture. Lately, it’s been sports
gambling. Every week or so we also read of some person who is caught embezzling
from their employer or defrauding friends and the gullible public to pay for a gambling
habit.
No,
older people -- memory foam insoles won’t help you remember
why you find yourself standing in an empty room wondering why you are there.
We
just passed a big graduation weekend, where millions of
kids now well-educated and fortified to battle life’s challenges, will depart their
parents homes, cut the apron strings, for good jobs Well, maybe – that’s the theory.
But they all received a lot of good advice from speakers, and in one case, a
lot of free money. At Morehead College in Atlanta, Billionaire speaker Robert
F. Smith said he would pay off the loans of all Class of 2019 graduates, about
$40 Million worth of largess. Talk about winning the lottery.
So,
do you think that a progressive congress person
will now overreact to the goodness of one man and enact legislation mandating that
all Billionaires speak and donate. “What about the unfortunate kids in classes
other than 2019, in schools other than Morehead?”, I can hear them saying.
But
kids will now make decisions on their hoped-for
jobs. A new survey points out that the most important things g that grads look
for in a new job are, Location and Salary (32%). Next at 28% their Position in the
company. 23% say benefits (HC and 401K) and 19% accept based on industry or
field. 14% say cool perks like happy hours
and free meals, while 11% look at company values. 9% think size of company is a
big factor.
The
Answer:
It is said that Abe Lincoln uttered those words upon
meeting the renowned author of Uncle Tom’s Cabin – Harriet Beecher Stowe, Bonus: Jacqueline Cochran was the first
woman to break the sound barrier. (There’s probably a good joke in there somewhere,
but I would be in deep trouble with half my circulation if I typed it!). PC is
ruining the Tids! “Jackie” Cochran was one of the most prominent Racing pilots of
her times and was instrumental in founding WAAC – Women’s Auxiliary Air Corp. Extra Bonus: Bob Denver who became the iconic
Gilligan, at first was outstanding as Dobie’s friend Maynard G Krebs.
I
reject out of hand the removal of any statue in a park or name
from a façade.
