Today's Tids Issue 4.497
Relevancy:
Too many opportunists
obscure the facts by taking a subject out of the context of time and place. Everything
we see today in a current moment is minuscule when compared to millions of years
of earth’s existence.
Everything incredibly easy
today was extremely difficult even mere decades ago.
Except of course,
living in a society with humans. That has always been difficult.
I just learned that
a major parts supplier for the F-35 Lightening II Joint Strike Fighter are being
made in Turkey. Not having internal control over all of our military weapon production
does not seem like a good idea at all. Who knows when an ally becomes a foe? Even
back in the 1980’s when B-School denizens were touting a service economy over a
manufacturing-based economy, many a wise observer was saying, How do we protect
our military might if we can’t produce steel and have the resources to make steel
into military parts and products. Manufacturing has always been the best value-added
industry of all time. If that isn’t important enough, then controlling the
manufacture of our defensive systems certainly is. Even, if it is made here by
robots.
What if there
were no hypothetical situations?
In case you missed it.
we are in the midst of “Cybersecurity Awareness Month”. Be aware, take care and don’t dare.
All of a sudden,
there are a lot of so-called highly acclaimed baseball managers out there looking
for jobs. Which probably means more teams will fire decent managers to take advantage
oft eh growing pool of so-called acclaimed managers.

I was standing behind
a couple at the supermarket auto machine checkout section where the husband was
having a tough time with the technology. Exasperated, he turned to the wife and
said, “What’s next washing the floors before you leave.”
My cosmologist wordplay
of yesterday had one reader returning to his adolescent days where a favorite boyhood
joke was: “What is the difference between a snake and a goose? A snake is an
asp in the grass, and a goose is a grasp in the ass.” Were they wild and crazy or
what? Of course, that behind-the-barn humor was in the context of the times. Today,
that rambunctious teen is a learned legal mind.
The only time incorrectly
isn’t spelled incorrectly is when it is spelled incorrectly.
We had a fair week last week,
picking a couple of good upsets, but losing a couple too. I’m feeling that this
year could be like that every week. Except when Miami, the Jets, and The Skins
are playing. Our record is now 49-38-1 (63%). However, we did break though our Thursday
Night game curse and we should continue with another win as New England should take
NYG. It will be windy as hell, and wet, so the Pats better be able to run. On Sunday
the closest games should be Panther-Bucs, Eagles at Minn, rivals Detroit at GB,
the laugher – Skins/Dolphins and maybe the Texans and now potentially vulnerable
Chiefs. The best game may be 9‘ers at Rams. I’m picking the Bucs, Minn, GB, Dolphins
Chiefs. The Rams have lost their Whiz-Bang luster of last year, But I’m
thinking they may beat the undefeated Niners.
Of the rest, I
like Chargers over Steelers, Cowboys getting a breather over the Jets, Broncs
taking down the mercurial Titans in a close one, Falcons over Cards (A real
Mystery pick), Ravens over Bengals, Seahawks over the Browns (depending on
which Browns’ team shows up).
One of my former
reliable sources for daily puns has lately been grasping for straws. Which of
course are banned.
By 1827,
people living in Western Asia and Africa still didn’t know the source of the White
Nile. Younger generations today living in thee moment might find that incomprehensible,
knowing only that it could be found in an instant with drones. But, what we are
dinging this time and place could also be considered as prehistoric a mere 75
to 100 years in the future.
In eras past,
mapmaking was for sure a much in demand high technology.
The College Game
of the week has to be Penn State versus Iowa. Some prognosticators are now
saying that perhaps they underrated the Nittany Lions in preseason polling. Now
they are saying that the PS and OSU game will eb one for the ages. That is, if
they can get by a tough Iowa. Other top line games are the traditional Okla – Texas,
Red River battle, with Texas being another surprise this fall. And then there
is the SEC top ten game between LSU and Florida, with LSU getting a lot of love.
If you look through history,
many a tyrannical dictator in emerging countries put too much of their money into
building large military. Which as it turns out is a dead end for economic
growth.
As long as there
are tests, there will be prayers in school.
I’ve said this often
and I will never stop saying it. The Ten Commandments are greatest guide to a
good life and great society. Better than any psychoanalysis. Regardless of
religious overtones.
The Answer:
According to my source, #1 is Led Zeppelin. Next is
Queen followed by Pink Floyd, Rolling Stones, Black Sabbath, The Eagles, The
Who, CCR, Lynyrd Skynyrd ad #10 Deep Purple. The next ten are Elton, CSNY,
Fleetwood Mac, Eric Clapton, Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, Bad Company, Boston,
Dooby Brothers, Stevie Wonder and Van Halen. Oh well, let’s go to 25 -- Bib Seger, David Bowie, The Allman Brothers, AC/DC
and Santana. Of the rest, I liked Journey, Aerosmith, Yes and others. The iconic
Grateful Dead came in 47. I w always liked Mike Oldfield and Boston.
Being a typical parent,
I would always say to the kids, why do you buy this junk. Then I would sneak
out my favorite albums and play them in my office.
