Today's Tids Issue 5,659
Why aren't you like me:
No matter what time it is, wake me, even if it's in the middle of a Cabinet meeting. -- Ronald Reagan
I’m thinking that the congressional approval of Trump's cabinet picks will be an interesting one. But things change as societies evolve over time and maybe we need to look at the structure differently. There are lots of laws protecting the various agencies and bureaucracy but perhaps many of the cabinet positions are too archaic for to meet today's needs. And more than likely too, many developed only to meet political promises. Maybe congress has to look at that too, the structure and not simply the picks. Nicola Tesla said in the 1920-30’s “The Secretary of Hygiene or Physical Culture will be far more important in the cabinet of the President of the United States who holds office in the year 2035 than the Secretary of War.” Unwieldiness is the progeny of governments left procreate their own..
Out in real America Joey Logano won this year's Nascar Championship Series. It was a surprise to me and all those who really know Nascar. But Joey and number two Ryan Blaney gave the incomparable Roger Penske team numbers one and two to end this year in triumph. The rest of the top ten were William Byron, Tyler Reddick, Christopher Bell, Kyle Larson, Chase Elliott, Alex Bowman and Martin Truex Jr. After Penske, Hendrick Motor Sports had four of the top ten, Joe Gibbs racing 3, and 23XI Racing 1. Penski also had #11.
I believe that some people would like sugar coated Tids. I say, buy a donut.
The Question:
What is the Dunning–Kruger effect?

Why aren't you like me: The basic human flaw.
Trump pick for Defense Secretary, Pete Hegseth, promises to focus on the military being military and not “wokeness”. He may be the most controversial figure when it comes to Congressional hearings.
Tesla, the real brilliant human being, had many quotes about the future. -- that robots will take the place of all unskilled slave labor, that modern day scientists enamored with math over experimentation allows them to wander off creating inventios with no relationship to reality.
Tesla also said, “I do not think you can name many great inventions that have been made by married men.” Whoops! I wonder what he g could have meant by that?
Turkish Proverb: “The forest was shrinking but the Trees kept voting for the Axe, for the Axe was clever and convinced the Trees that because his handle was made of wood, he was one of them.”
If you want to create a look of anxiousness in a physicist's eyes just ask him how gravity fits into their quantum theory framework, the grand unified theory of physics. It's always refreshing to find that the most brilliant people in the world don't know something too.
“A friend of mine says he doesn’t understand cloning, I said, “That makes two of us.” --The TPL
I have tried to understand Bitcoin and can't come to grips with the idea that something based on nothing can be so expensive. It seems like the it represents the highest level of Pet Rockism.
It's tough to swing a golf club wearing three parkas. Brrrr. Is this why people move south in the winter?

The Answer:
The Dunning–Kruger effect is a cognitive bias in which people with limited competence in a particular domain overestimate their abilities. Some researchers in their definition retrain this view, the Dunning–Kruger effect is the thesis that those who are incompetent in a given area tend to be ignorant of their incompetence, i.e., they lack the metacognitive ability to become aware of their incompetence. This definition lends itself to a simple explanation of the effect: incompetence often includes being unable to tell the difference between competence and incompetence. Not knowing the scope of your own ignorance is part of the human condition. The problem with it is we see it in other people, and we don't see it in ourselves.
Hmmm. I wonder.
I have always underestimated the competence of a rock band base player. It is most likely because I have no concept of what it takes to be competent their
I always thought Peter Frampton was pretty competent:
