Today's Tids Issue 5,655
Lower the Temp:
“Federal Aid in these instances encourages the expectations of paternal care on the part of the Government and weakens the Sturdiness of our national character.” Hmm... See the Q below.
I have a feeling that most people are hoping that the noise of politics just fades away from the daily discussions for a while. But it won’t. I guess we're stuck with people who make a living off of it.
Me: I'm having trouble hearing lately.
Doc: Can you describe the symptoms?
Me: Homer is a fat guy, and his wife Marge has blue hair.
(Thanks to the TPL)
The Question:
Who was the last Prez before Trump to have a split term USA Presidency. It is his quote from above. That quote certainly reflects upon a national malaise of today that needs to be corrected.

The TidsPickers are happy today, because the political season will subside for a moment or two and because we had a good week last week. 12-3 brings our YTD to 96-45 (68%) I think there are some difficult picks this week. Tonight would have been one of those games of the year if Cincy lived up to preseason billings. I have to say Baltimore is just that much better. There are two other games that warrant top-o-the-line mention – Pitt-Washington and Detroit-Houston. I’ll pick Detroit over Houston just because the Lions are the team to beat in the NFC right now. Pitt and Washington are both surprises, but I'll go with the Steelers over the current national media darlings. KC against Denver also has the earmarks of a game that matters. KC is undefeated but they have had a few squeaker wins. Denver is a hair away from elite in my opining But Ill stay with the Chiefs. Dallas against Philly would be premier any other year but now with Dak out and still with a terrible run D, it is even more a pretty good win for the Iggles.
Of the rest, we see that Munich Germany will be treated to two of America's worst -- Carolina and the New York Football Giants. I go Giants. Minn will beat Jax, the Chargers will beat the Titans and Atlanta will beat diminished New Orleans. Buffalo at Indy should be a close game but Buffalo is like KC finding a way to win even when not playing well. Tampa Bay is playing better than their record and San Franis a disappointment, But McCaffery will likely play and that’s enough to make TB think about him. I'll pick San Fran. Arizona has been pretty good, and the Jets have been unpredictable. I have a hunch about picking the Jets m but I'm going against it. I like the way the Rams are playing. Their game against Miami could be a tough one, but I’ll go LA. Now we come down to my beloveds and the da Bears. The Bears have elevated their play and the Pats score in unusual ways mostly because Maye is escaping danger. That's no offense. I have to go against my guys.
Google and Apple and all big companies concerned about antitrust suits that seemed to be developing in the past four years might be breathing a little easier. It will be interesting to watch that.
Unfortunately, smart companies are often chastised simply because they are successful. It's a crying shame.
I spilled spot remover on my dog. He's gone now.
At least with Repubs having both houses Trump won't be impeached on the first day.
Something serious has to be done to stop the drugs in America. Make America Drug Free again, and it should start with getting tough with Mexico.
If Trump made Musk Secretary of State, he’d just travel around buying countries!
Meanwhile I’ll just keep on trying to grow old gracefully. Because when you come right down to it there are a lot more things way more important in life than politics.
Rory McIlroy said yesterday that he is hoping that Trump can bring together the warring golf leagues PGA ad LIV. Everybody wants something, Trump is going to be busy.
Microsoft tries much too hard to give more help that I really don't want at all.
My body is really having trouble adjusting to the fluctuations in daily temperatures. I'm usually pleasantly accustomed to cold by now. So let it be cold.
Just so you know what it is like living in RI... we have members in the State Senate and State House and on Tuesday we elected 3 Repubs for the Senate and four for the House. My vote doesn’t really count for much no matter what they say
The Answer:
Grover Cleveland was the last split-term President. He wrote: “Federal Aid (Referring at the time to grain gifts to farmers) encourages the expectations of paternal care on the part of the Government and weakens the Sturdiness of our national character”. Grover was a Dem and was also tough on strikers and a no-nonsense guy who irritated people over the way he tried to work the country out of a depression... without mammby-pambyism He seemed to be a guy who did things right regardless of how he irritated the political syetem managers.
It only rains straight down. God doesn't do windows.
