A little bounce

Today's Tids Issue 5.783

Beneath the facades:

My heart kinda Bled

As I slipped into bed.

But this morn I'm glowing

Cause stocks ain't red.

I hate it when I spend too much time writing about one subject. This week it has been about financial things for obvious reasons. And it is wearing because it just doesn’t feel cohesive.

I'd love to see Justin Rose win the Master's. I think he'd have ac great champions dinner next year. And he is funny.

Actually, we need a lot more funny people on our world stages... without the caustic undercurrent so prevailent today.

The Question:

Who said,I may be President, but my private life is nobody’s damned business.” Bonus: What Prez said: “It is far better to be alone than to be in bad company.” Extra Bonus: Which Prez siad “Nobody cares how much you know until they know how much you care.”

The Headlines:

--UMich Consumer Sentiment Index Plumets to 50.8, Lower than Analysts prediction of 53.8; Was 57 Last Month.

--Dow Grows from Black to Red by late Morniing; Soars to deep Balck 800+ by Mid PM

--China Raises Tariffs on US Goods From 84% to 125%.

--Trump Defies Court Order for Info on Deportee's Return.

--Terry Bradshaw Force behind Effort to Free Locked in Passengers from Plane.

--Nato Increasingly Concerned over Putin Threats of Worldwide Blackouts; Authorities say Undersea Cables Vulnerable to Sabatage

I don't care what the Government inflation numbers say, it costs a lot more to eatin a restaurant these daysAnd what's with those seafood prices?

Mathematicians will stop at nothing to avoid negative numbers.

I would like to know what Chief Justice John Roberts is thinking.

Safe Harbor in a relatively short period of time took over 138 USA Marinas including 11 in little ole’ Rhode Island. Of course, in typical CEO speak they said nothing would change. But of course, it did, and true friendliness was the casualty. And long-time slip, or mooring owners learned quickly that life would be more difficult. Now the Safe Harbor’s marinas have been bought by Private Equity Blackstone company's Infrastructure division. What will they promise the boat owners.

Remember Mitch Miller’s follow the bouncing ball singalongs?. That the tune were playing in America these days, but it’s harder to follow. And not as happy.

The Irish love their Blarney Stone. But tourists can get fooled by the shamrock. Oh, I won't be playing the bragpipes over that one

Back in the 1850's and up until the 16th Amendment was passed in 1913, the US custom House in NYC accounted for 75% of all Customs Import revenue which amounted to 2/3rds of all Federal revenue. So, if we go back to that with tariffs, can we get rid of the 16th amendment

Jobs at the NY Customs House were highly sought after just because of the gigantic amounts of money that flowed through it. At one-point there were 27,000 applications for 600 jobs. The New York chief appointed by US Grant in 1871 was Prez to be Chester A Arthur. It was considered the prime Patronage palace in the country. Arthur made several times more income as a CH Head than he had as a successful lawyer. Interestingly Arthur who made a small fortune through patronage was the President who gave us the Civil Service Systems so that politics would be eliminated in selecting Gov employees. Rhode Island prefers a hybrid system of patronage and union bargaining.

The Answer:

It was of course, Chester A. Arthur. It was the most famous thing he ever said. Bonus: That was of our first President, George Washington; Extra Bonus: I always liked Teddy Roosevelt and like him better after that quote.

Have a great weekend, E-v-e-r-y-b-o-d-y!!

Below is a typical Mitch Miller Bouncing Ball Tune. It is a little more upbeat and bouncier than some of today's musical extravaganzas.
