Today's Tids Issue 5,792
For the good of us:
Last evening watching the nightly news my heart felt something special as I watched the swelling crowds in the Vatican to honor a holy many who helped so lovingly the disadvantaged. Later that evening I watched even larger crowds agog surging around Green Bay Wisconsin awaiting the announcement of drafted football players. Tis world is full of mixed priorities, isn’t it.
Our favorite Tids Punster Laureate tells me that Cowboys in days gone by would hang a lantern from their saddle at night when far from home. It was called Saddle Light Navigation.
After a three-day stock rally, we'll probably see “Profit” taking. But for the non-traders there is nowhere near enough profit yet to get even. One person's profit s another person's dismay.
The Question:
The focus these days on the sustainability of world economies leads me to ask: What are the five biggest economies in the world?
The Headlines:
--Stocks Open Iffy; Dow Drifts Lower, Nas Higher by Mid-Morning; Google Earnings Positive.
--Key Russian General Killed in Moscow Car Bomb Explosion; Trump Envoy to Meet Putin Today in Moscow.
--US Allies Alarmed That Trump Would Let Russia Keep Ukraine Land It Took.
--Top Three in Draft: Cam Ward (Tenn), Travis Hunter (Jax) and Abdul Carter (NYG); At #4, NE Pats Get Upfront O-Line Fortification They Need in Will Campbell.
--Apple Looking to Move Majority of iPhone Production to India.
When considering the paradox of the opening paragraph, I also thought -- The NFL has seized Sundays where churches used to be.
When you think about it, watching the NFL Draft is a lot of time watching not much. Thank God for Cleveland/Jax making a trade and NY Giants picking a “C” Grade QB, or there wouldn’t have been any surprises of note at all.
Paradox: Two physicians.
The big difference I noticed between this NFL Draft and drafts past is that now with NIL dough, the players seemed better dressed.
Maybe here is something worth watching – the BBC lists the top films so far for 2025. They are in order Companion, Sinners, Art for Everybody (Documentary), War4fare, Bring them Down, Misericordia, Holy Cow, The Friend, Wallace & Gromit: Vengeance most Fowl. And lastly, On Becoming a Guinea Fowl. Enjoy.
Is Mel Kiper finished yet?
People were quite excited today to read that the Ospreys were back. When we were kids we called them, Fish Hawks, a less eloquent moniker.
Massive uncertainty will be with the financial markets for a while.
For every low life evil doer there are a 100,000 people livig their life in a loving, caring, giving way. So, take heart.
Some companies will raise prices regardless of whether or not they are affected by Tariffs, simply because the consumer will be getting used to prices rising. price increases.
Everybody but me seems to like “White Lotus”.
Setting forest fires is not the greatest new American fad. But unfortunately, copycat-ism is a part of our culture these days, especially if you can announce your dirty deeds on social media.
If the US has to import credit, will there be a tariff atop interest on credit cards?
Every retailer wants the consumer to use their company's credit card. Can you imagine how many cards you could have if you took every offer. Kristie Noem's pocketbook wouldn't be big enough to hold them.
Will Trump make the Pope’s funeral all about him being there?
The Answer:
The largest economy is the United States followed by China, Germany, California and Japan. Yes, Cal which just passed Japan. The rest of the top ten are India, UK, France, Italy, Texas and New York. The other US States with trillion Dollar economies are Florida, Illinois and Pennsylvania.
Hey, next weekend will be May. So, if we suffer a shower or two these last few days of this month, remember that shower thing always works for a colorful month ahead.
Love your weekend, E-v-e-r-y-b-o-d-y!!
