In Trouble.

Today;s Tids Issue 5,855

Earned:

This screen appears more blank than usual. Maybe it's because that even though news is pouring out from the world cervices everywhere nothing is that surprising any more.

I'm guessing that the 2025-26 TV season will become the year of the streamers when the networks abuse loyal viewers by moving top shows and key sports events to their out lets like Peacock and Paramount. Pay, baby, Pay! But I’m already paying too much It's going to happen for sure, and it has to start soon.

So, does,Uncured Chicken Sausage” come from Chickens who can’t shake diseases?

I guess there isn't much critical going on in America as the US House is closing down 9 days early.

The Question:

Who was Wiley Post? Bonus: A lot of actors get lucky and wind up in oneshow that becomes a mega hit. Name three actors who got that lucky twice.

The Headlines:

--Markets Iffy as GM Reports Tarriff Problems Ahead after Reporting Good Profits Today.

--Starvation becoming a major problem in Gaza; UN concerned Over Israel “Drip” Food Aid.

--House Speaker Johnson Shuts Down House Early to Block Vote on Epstein; Vote to Force Release of Documents Now Postponed until September.

--Ozzie Osbourne Dies at 76 from Parkinson's.

--Following Yesterday's Shot at Powell, Bessent Says Today Fed Chief Doesn't have to Step Down.

--Trump Makes Deal with Indonesia and Philippines.

BTW, GM had good earnings because they beat analysts estimates. But reality shows them falling from $3.06 a year earlier to $2.53 today

In the end, it takes talent. Meghan Markle’s Netflix show took off on the hype. Today it is ranked 383rd among all Netflix shows. Hype gets you there, but results keep you there. It isn't that different in te stock markets where hype can create wild eyed, overheated buying and the lack of results almost instant flash freezes. Think for example of the Dot Com debacle.

Also look at the WNBA where the arrival of a marketable player named Caitlin sent the league soaring in headlines. Now the players are wearing T-Shirts saying, “Pay us what you Owe Us”. The NBA owns half of the WNBA and has been subsidizing operations and paying for travel, marketing, uniforms and equipment. The league has never made money so everything including salaries is subsidized. CBS ratings this year are averaging 1.3 million versus 1.23 in 2024. The games with very good viewership that up average ratings are those that feature the Fever starring Clake. But regardless of if there is enough money to pay them more, they do have a point. The average salary in the WNBA is $102,249 with a high salary of $249, 240. The average salary in the NBA is $11,910,649 with the high salary of $55,760,000/ Yikes!! The NBA revenue is About $12 Billion. WNBA revenue is about $200 million which has generated a Loss $50 mil per year. So, there is a real problem. If the WNBA was a government, they would tax the hell out of fans and create a deficit to give them what the want.

In my experience different businesses, I have found that salaries have often been inequitable because the deciding factor has generally been he or she who produces the revenue gets the money. Some brilliant creators and contributors often serioulsy lag the money producers.

Orida products would be good if they used Maine potatoes.

One of the great joys of summer is being able to go barefoot.

Everybody can see the faults of Trump, so the explanation of the truth is just a matter of who wants him to win and who wants him to lose

The Cellular Sales robot is working overtime to lure me today. I don't know what I did wrong.

Speaking of purchasing power, Americans are waking up to realize they are spending way too much on non-essential items. Some are calling for a Buying “Detox" and it is hard for some, but like all rehabs, once you get past the hump, the results are soothing

The Answer:

W You know about Lindburgh and Amelia Ehrhart. And you may have known of Wiley as a Pal of the great Will Rogers and that they died together in a plane crash after the two took off from Point Barrow Alaska. But Wiley Post was a genuine aviation hero including being the first person to solo circumnavigate the world in a plane. Bonus: Ok, how about David McCallum who was a star of A Man from U.N.C.L.E. and who decades later gained fame in NCIS. Andy Griffith was huge in The Andy Griffith Show in Mayberry with Opie and Don Knox and later in Matlock. Then we have Brian Cranston in Malcom in the Middel and Breaking Bad, and Julia Louise Dreyfus in Seinfeld and Veep. Of course, there was Betty White in the MTM Show and in Golden Girls. And don't forget MTM herself in her own great show show and The Dick Van Dyke Show... both huge.  I know there were many more who were multiple decent show actors but short of double iconic shoe status.

Speaking of Iconic. -- the guy who with his wife wrote some of the most memorable music for TV and Movies died today. Alan Bergman wrote for the great singers. Heres one:
