It’s Christmas Time

Today's Tids Issue 5,688

We made it, didn't we:

Ho, ho, ho E-v-e-r-y-b-o-d-y!!

It is a festive time of year. I actually see glowing eyes and gigantic smiles all around. People anticipating. The grocery bills are too high but somehow, we say, Hey, it’s as special day. Let's splurge, Its ok. We go the extra mile to have fun with each other. But we realize a funny thing along the way, the best part is each other, the best gift of all.

Isn't it great that Jesus decided to be born on Christmas day. So, we could all feel something a little extra special

Of course, there were great days in my childhood, memories that will never fade. I was wide-eyed then and yes; I am wide-eyed today all over again. Remembering Christmas days well before the Charlie Brown story first showed up on TV. Memories not scripted but felt.

But I have to say that Charlie Brown and Linus and the rest expressed Christmas as well as anybody Ive read or known:

Charlie Brown: I guess you were right, Linus. I shouldn't have picked this little tree. Everything I do turns into a disaster. I guess I really don't know what Christmas is all about.

Linus Van Pelt: [shouting in desperation]

Charlie Brown: Isn't there anyone who knows what Christmas is all about?

Linus: Sure, Charlie Brown, I can tell you what Christmas is all about.

[Moves toward center stage]

Lini]us: Lights, please.

[The lights dim, and a spotlight shines on Linus{

Linis: "And there were in the same country shepherds abiding in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night. And lo, the angel of the Lord came upon them, and the glory of the Lord shone round about them: and they were sore afraid. And the angel said unto them, 'Fear not:"

[Linus drops his security blanket on purpose]

Linus: "for behold, I bring unto you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people. For unto you is born this day in the City of David a Savior, which is Christ the Lord. And this shall be a sign unto you; Ye shall find the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger.' And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host, praising God, and saying, 'Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men.'"

  • [Luke 2:8-14 KJV]

Linus: [silent pause as Linus picks up his blanket and walks back towards Charlie Brown] That's what Christmas is all about, Charlie Brown.

Thanks E-v-e-r-y-b-o-d-y!! ...for being out there, putting with typos and rants and bad puns and occasional foolishness. Hopefully laughing, smiling a little. See you all Thursday. Hope you all over eat, have plenty of gravy and are lavished with surprising presents and more importantly, lots of love.
