The Global common denominator

Today's Tids Issue 5.677

I'll take vanilla:

This is the day for Tids to remember tomorrow, the day we should never forget. The day when a trust was broken. A day that should always remind us always to be alert. With all the goodness in the world there is always an evil that seems to be lurking. To strike when we are looking the other way. As it did in Pearl Harbor, as it did on 911. As it will on some other day when everything feels ok. I will never forget the pictures and newsreels of that slaughter, that quiet Sunday morning when people were going to church. When suddenly an incessant drone came out of the sky. On a Sunday morning when the world was at peace.

Thank you, Harvard. In a broad test among over 192,000 people, accumulating data over several years it was shown that people who eat an ounce of dark chocolate a day have a much lower risk of getting Type 2 Diabetes. Without weight gain. The scientists were astounded at the high number, a 21% lower risk.  Invest in chocolate commodities because there will be a rush if I know America.

I’d give up Chocolate, but I'm not a quitter.,

The Question:

Name the Ten largest Chocolate Companies in the World.

The Headlines:

--Jobs Creation Number comes in About Where Economists Predicted, 227K vs. 220K; Will not change Fed Rate Decrease Decision; Markets; Dow Fizzles, Nas Roars.

US Appeals Court Upholds Law Outlawing TikTok in US.

Chocolate produces the same smiles and satisfaction regardless of culture, language or other defining differences between humans.

My hands use to be quite shaky at times but now I'm so old I can't get them to move.

Age eventually cures everything.

Actually, I don't think about age because I always thought being a kid was pretty great.

Finally, a slew of college football game that actually mean something. The two really big ones nationally are Georgia and Texas and Penn State-Oregon. I see Oregon and Texas winning. Oregon and Texas will be on top for a while as Texas has te best paid incoming class for 2025 (Unless they all jump into the portal for 2026), and Phil Knight is Oregon's Banker. Aside from the two games between behemoths games there are others equally important to the teams playing. Suddenly, Boisie State-UNLV becomes a massive Championship Game that will affect the overall tournament, and to a lesser extent, Army versus Tulane.

Speaking of Mindboggling, in the NCAAF playdown only the winners of the five power conferences get automatic bids. And only Conference Champions can be seeded 1-4. The power conferences are Big Ten, SEC, Big 12, That means that Notre Dame ranked 4 in the current polls can't get a Bye because it isn't in a conference. But neither can strong contenders Ohio State, Georgia, Tennessee or Indiana because they aren’t in the league championship games. That means currently 11th ranked Boisie State will be Number 4 seed if they beat UNLV. Its the old Committee/Camel story.

Chocolate is a warm hug.

Political talk has really settled down or I’ve gotten so tired of it that I'm not listening anymore. It's nice from my point of view that the Repubs got the Senate and House but margins of majority there are very thin, which means Trump wouldn't be able to bludgeon his way through 4 years. That's the way this country works. Unlike Syria.

The Islamic insurgence in Syria is a big deal. The oppressed have been crying for relief but is their answer an Islamist Militant group named Hayat Tahrir al-Sham which was originally created with another name and was a direct affiliate of al Qaida. In just a week they have taken two major cities and are poised to enter Homs before rushing to Damascus. Assads mighty army is weak, full of discouraged underpaid conscription soldiers. Assads might during the last defense of his regime came about because Russia and Iran joined in. Russia troops have problems elsewhere, as we know. The Middel East is till the Middle East.

You can’t buy happiness, but you can buy chocolate.

The Answer:

The Wall Street Journal just produced the list of the largest Chocolate Companies by Revenue. #10 is Perfetti Van Mello (Neth). Going up to 1 we have Lindt-Sprungli (Swiss), Meiji (Japan), Barry-Calibaut (Belgium-France), Hersheys, LOTTE (S Korea), Ferrero (Italy), Mondelez (Chicago), Mars-Wrigley US) and #1, Nestle SA with Revenue of $108 Billion, and profits like candy,

So maybe the secret to world peace is universally accepted and thoroughly enjoyed chocolate. Unless of course there was a war over its availability.

Have a great weekend, E-v-e-r-y-b-o-d-y!!
