The Answer:
Chloraphyll keeps the trees green all summer. But as the days grow shorter and cooler, and the angle of the sun declines, trees find in unproductive to use energy create the levels of chlorophyll necessary. So they essentially divert the photosynthesis nutrients to feed the tree system for the winter months. The reds and yellows and oranges are always there in the leaves, and start to appear when the chlorophyll is used elsewhere. The trees also drop the leaves to preserve energy within to fight the cold. These trees sound smarter than many humans exept eh whe the exhibit the human failings of those who like to litter.
