There will be a lot of Anguish over the voting int Texas. That’s the big weathervane plum in tis national congressional election season. Currently, A series of polls has Dem Talarico ahead or deadlocked with Repub Paxton. Musk opened his wallet as did Trump and his Maga treasure chest sending $10 Mil in support of Paxton. Talarico is getting big money from Tech and Financial industry Billionaires.  So, the money may be even.  

 

The cloud over the US Open Tennis in NYC isn’t form Canada. No, it is drifting cannabis smoke from the neighborhood seeping onto thecourts, Number One seed Aryna Sabalanka called for a stoppage of play until the aroma dissipated. The fans were smiling and cool with it. Save money on drugs. Go to a tennis match and inhale.  

 

I haven’t heard as much about “Pumpkin Spice” this year. At least, yet. Maybe it is a fad that has gone the route of other overexposed fads. 

 

Some good long-time sports talkers on the radio seem to be going back to school to become relevant again. They’re learning that the listeners of today tune out unless there is constant talk about betting opportunities and odds. And projections.  

 

Speaking of talking, the national baseball broadcasts feature too many announcers who talk about anything but the game. If you like baseball, or are knowledgeable in any sport, you can trun off the sound and be happy.  

 

While we are on excessive gabbing – I'm tuning out all the political TV talk shows. Way too much shouting and anger for this gentle soul. It makes no sense anymore. The spinning has me dizzy. 

 

The Answer: 

There is a bit of controversy here. Peter McGiure the young leader of the Carpenters Union proposed a day of rest and respect for labor in 1882. Peter would join with Sam Gompers to found the AFofL. But new evidence from NJ historical records say that Matthew McGuire maybe the founder. He was had of Manufacturing unions working to reduce long work hours. And he did. In 1882 he also proposed the day and Cleveland signed it into law that year prompting an NJ newspaper to claim the honor should go to Matthew. See disagreements on agreement.  

 

 Well, it is Labor Day and it is a day of rest. So I’m thinking why am I laboring this morning. Because, I love you all and know you can’t get through a day without Tids typos. See you all tomorrow.
