Out damn Spot.

Today's Tids Issue 4,015
For Trying Harder:

It’s hard to find a decent opener to this morning mess these days. The air is cool and crisp, the spirit of Christmas is shown before our eyes and in our hearts., but the bile of human excess is commanding the news. Today we learn that almost the entire ex-NFL on-air entire staff has been named as sex marauders in a lawsuit from a former female employee. A big-time celebrity chef went down yesterday, and tonight we learn if Alabama is willing to elect to the Senate an alleged serious sexual predator.

Somehow, I think a birth in a stable was a little simpler, a little purer and lot more meaningful. As I remember, the entire meaning of Christmas had something to do with “…for it is He who will save His people from their sins.” I guess we are slow learners.

Happy Hanukkah! So that we will remember mans courage to rise up against and beat the overwhelming odds of powerful oppressors.

The high cost of living has beaten many centsless.

I’m reading of people taking second mortgages on their homes so they can participate it new The Bitcoin futures frenzy. That’s the kind of irrational thinking that always seems to happen towards the end of boom cycle. Just in case you are interested.

The Russian investigation will seem relatively insignificant when the full weight of Trump sexual harassment allegations takes center stage.

The results of the other big election for The Voice final four will also be known tonight when the remaining eight are cut down by half. Once again, I really liked Chloe last night. Addison did a fine job. Noah, who has the young girl audience in his pocket was also very good in his solo effort. Brooke is an emerging favorite as is Keisha. Davon was Davon, which can be special. That leaves two country boy singers, Adam Cunningham and Red Marlow, both of whom also did well last night. So, it comes down to which singers have amassed the most total audiences. Judging by ITune sales, the two leaders are clearly Chloe and Addison (See rankings from last night below.) That would seem to say to me that the next lock is Noah and then it’s a toss-up between Keisha and Brooke, and maybe Davon for number four. But, wait a darn second – The Voice has always had a good old country boy or gal sneaking in at the end. If that repeats again this year, it could be Red, who has a little more personality than Adam. Right now, I’m thinking Chloe, Addison, Noah and Brooke, But, this year little has gone to form, except Chloe winning ITune sales. So, hold on.

The ITunes Sales rankings had a number of last night’s performances in the Top Ten. Number one again was Chloe for “I Want to Know What Love Is”, My personal favorite of the night. #2 was again Addison followed by the Chloe/Noah Duet at #3. Red Marlow #5, Brooke #6, Noah #8 and Davon #10 round out the top group. The Red/Adam duet was #14, Adam #16, Addison/Keisha #18, Keisha #21 and the Brooke/Davon Duet # 25. After that, we had on the way to the top 100 repeats of Chloe, Brooke, Chloe, Chloe, Addison, Chloe. Well, Chloe seems to have an audience, at least an audience with wallets.

I don’t know whether or not this makes me un-American, but I just don’t get that excited about Weathertech car liners.

As one cultural mores observer says, “If they take down Trump for sexual aggression, then Clinton should be in jail”.

Yesterday, I was going to write a little piece about the problems of the NFL. That was before this morning’s revelations about their NFL Network predators. Despite that sensationalism, the big sports league does have some other problems on the field. It’s called, finding meaningful games worthy of watching. It seems that some owners and their execs just don’t know what it takes to build a winning team. Then there is the rising rate of serious non-head injuries that has too many super stars on the sidelines and several of the decent teams being shells of their former selves. The product on the field may the real problem.

I don’t think I am part of the world any more. This morning I read one of those advice columns. A woman was complaining about the sincerity of the affections of her boyfriend. Now she wasn’t complaining about the fact that as she was giving birth to his child, around the exact same time a second woman was also giving birth to his child! Yikes. No, she was complaining that he didn’t write as much about her and child in FaceBook as he did about the second woman and child. Shoot me.]

Did you hear about the 100-year-old, “Beloved” Bakery with wine store in Oberlin Ohio that has been brought to its knees and may go out of business after attacks from the student body of the College there. It appears that the owner of the well-established “Gibsons” had arrested three black Oberlin students for punching and kicking the shopkeeper after getting caught stealing wine after they were refused a sale because of a falsified ID. The troubles for bakery and wine shop has the liberal college faculty confused because they genuinely love the store, yet and also want to appear to support the crazed student body. Some observers are saying the anger was high around the Quad due to the loss by Hillary, and the shop actions just feed their mourning. The leadership of students at the very liberal college don’t want to know that he three kids pleaded guilty to all charges and signed statement that there was no racism involved at all. But, that’s what we have today, “I don’t want the truth because it is counter to my flawed reasoning.”

After watching the NE Pats’ game last night, I don’t think Brady will be playing until he is 45. And perhaps Belichick looked more dour than usual because he suddenly realized that he maybe shouldn’t have traded Garopolo! Yikes.

The Answer:
The Hanukkah celebration is for eight days.  The name of the nine-branched candelabrum is the Menorah (In Hebrew is is the Hanukiah) Hanukkah celebrates the victory of the Maccabees (Israelites) over ten Greek Syrian ruler Antiochus. Two traditional Hanukkah foods are Latkes (Potato Pancakes) and sufganiot (Jelly Donuts).

Turn off the news and smile.
