Madmen and righteous people.

Today's Tids Issue 5,113

Pray, dammit:

I often write some of the Monday Tids over the weekend. But I thought I had better save the opening until Monday morning to see if the world as we knew it still exists. There were increasing signs of insatiability in the threats and accusations coming g from VP.  Like using the word Nuclear, which would never enter the thought process of any sane person.

Here’s something that just came in from BBC: “Ukraine asks for Cease fire.” What does that mean if they don’t give their country to Russia?

It would be interesting to look down at this world of humans from afar. In places like Ukraine where we see tanks rolling into a city full of regular Ukraine people and those regular people fighting for their lives and very future. While at any given moment we would see somewhere else in the world somebody who may be complaining that their hamburger is too well-done or protesting a mask.

Two of my favorite things are navy blue sweaters and Cheetos. One should never wear he former while eating the latter.

You have to wonder if XI and China, which seemed like a safety net for Russia and Putin, is having second thoughts as he watches the mass of public opinion rising up against the Russian menace, including large populations of Russians in Russia.

The old phrase, “Left up to their own devices” has never been more appropriate. Just look around you at people buried in their phones.

The Question:

Who are James Watson and Francis Crick?

The Headlines:

--Markets Sink; Sanction Escalation Plus Putin Surprises Has Investors Jittery; Market Fundamentals Remain Remarkably Stable.

--Ukraine Asks For Cease Fire As Russia Ukraine Talks Begin At Belarus Border; New Blasts Rock Kyiv; New Sanctions Squeezes Russaia Monetary Systems And Their Ability To Control Financial Destiny.

--Russian Trops In Streets Of Second Largest City Kharkiv; Kiev Encircled.

--UN Presents New Climate Report; Says Climate Change Racing Beyond Human Control.

Putin over the weekend put his military forces on nuclear alert. America is always on high nuclear alert under the sea.

Good news! Today is National Sword Swallowing Day, just in case you have gotten out of the habit.

This could be the craziest March Madness ever. On Saturday 7 of the top ten lost. Only three recent champs at 7, 8 and 10, Duke, Villanova and Baylor, kept their heads up. One team to keep an eye in is Arkansas the current reigning giant killer.

Now I worry about Russians in Russia who are protesting, and it appears are in danger themselves for speaking out. Will there come a time when the numbers of angry people overcome the numbers of ex-KGB officers now known as FSB currently carting them a way to jails. If so, that will be a revolution.

Do you think shaving cream really softens your beard …
or is it just so you don’t lose your place?

The other day on the dreaded “The View” they were talking about the horrors of Ukraine, the deaths and refugees because of the Russian incursion. Joy Bayhar said essentially that the war will ruin her vacation in Italy.

The best thing I have seen that gives me a real feel for the war in Ukraine was an interview Sunday with a mother hold an infant in the underground subway in Kiev. She was very intelligent, incredibly well spoke, good looking, healthy young, who when asked if she was going take her children and run for the border, said “No, I’m going to stay and fight for my children and their future. She is my new hero.

Is it illegal now to play Tchaikovsky symphonies?

Silly season has begun. That is, movie and entertain awards shows which never seem to end this time of year. SAG was on tap last Night. The cast of Successions was happy to win best ensemble for drama again beating out the popular Squid Game. Ted Lasso won best ensemble for Comedy. CODA, all-deaf cast film, won best movie award. Will Smith won best actor and Jessica Chastain best female actor. Supporting awards went to Ariana Dubose and Troy Kotsur. I was happy to see Ket Winslet win for her crusty role, but I was rooting for Andrew Garfield in Tick, Tick Boom.

Remember that it is bad luck to deal with Australians on Thursday the 13th.

The Answer:

Watson and Crick discovered the double helix structure of DNA. Where would Ancestry dot com be without them? Up a crick, probably.

For the people of Kiev, may they rise to a winning crescendo:
