What now, Vlad?

Today's Tids Issue 5,109

Global Hesitation:

Today I have an open mind

Which enables me to clearly see

The meanings of what I find.

And what the significance may be.

I have learned as I grow old,

As I continue to stumble along

That new adventures ere’ unfold

And my love of life grows strong.

So as you walk among the sights,

Always keep an open eye

For all those hidden delights

And they’ll never pass you by.

I wish a war in Ukraine would pass us by. What now Vald?

Today is “Two’sDay”! In case you missed it we had 2/2/22/22 this morning and will again this afternoon when it will be 2 pm on the 22nd day of the second month in the year 2022. You will see this again in 3/33/3, not quite as good as 22222.

What is the difference between mechanical engineers and civil engineers? Mechanical engineers build weapons. Civil engineers build targets.

The nice thing about being senile is you can hide your own Easter eggs.

The Question:

Today is obscure events day. When was the first Daytona 500 and what brand of car won it? Bonus: Who were the “Mighty Macs” of 1973-74? Extra Bonus: What was the name of the first cloned animal? Super Bonus: Who was the first truly dominant figure skater on the world stage?

The Headlines:

--Wall Street Eyes Firmly Fixed On Ukraine; Home Depot And Macy's Surge On Strong Earnings But Geopolitical Concerns Trump Positive Business Results.

--White House Calls Russaia Act An Invasion; Boris Johnson Joins Biden In Sanctions Against Putin; Germany Suspends Vital Nord Stream Pipeline Project; Experts Says Sanctions Unlikely To Deter Putin.

--Putin Recognizes Russia Dominated Areas Of Ukraine as Independent; Sends In “Peacekeeping” Troops.

--US Soccer Settles With Woman Players On Equal Pay Suit.

--Mandaloun Named Official Wonner Of 2021 Kentucky Derby Following Disqualification Of Now Deceased Madina Spirit.

--Arbury Shooter Convicted of A Hate Crime.

All animals look cloned to me.

A new covid report, according to ABC News, says that most of the deaths from the new Omicron onslaught are unvaccinated people in their 30’s and 40’s. Data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention shows that during the first week of December -- when the omicron variant began taking hold -- unvaccinated people were dying at a rate of 9 per 100,000. By comparison, fully vaccinated people were dying at a rate of 0.4 per 100,000 (Mainly older with existing conditions.) If we can get beyond the hyperbole, there is a logic to understanding Covid.

The quieter you are, the more you hear.

Today is National “Be Humble” Day. I like being Humble.

Despite all the hysteria on Wall Street over Russia, the main concern there is still the anticipated Fed Activity. In other words, for investors, the Ukraine thing is more of a nuisance and the availability of low interest money is still everything. It’s easy to factor in economic hits from a war, but hard to get affordable cash.

Some days I spend a lot of time looking at my phone hoping something magical will appear. Some days it’s like sitting there waiting for the Powerball results.

One way to stop bad things from happening – worry incessantly about them.

Many of life’s traumas will disappear if you take them with a grain of salt... a slice of lemon... and a shot of Taquila

Basically, people are always overreacting to something. Tomorrow when temps near sixty the global warmers will predict devastation in ten years. And the next day when it is cold and snowing there will be predictions of the next ice age. Weather comes and weather. Bonus: goes, and it has for eons.

If you cross a waitress and a chef, you will end up with a cold meal!

The Answer:

The first Daytona 500 was in 1959 and the winning car was an Oldsmobile driven by Lee Petty. Bonus: The “Mighty Macs” were the women basketball players form Immaculata College outside of Philly who won the first two NCAA Women’s national basketball championships. They were true folk heroes. Extra Bonus: Of course, the first dominant figures skater was that global darling of the 1930’s, Sonja Heine: Super Bonus: The first cloned animal was a lamb named “Dolly”.

Now Joe B will be running as a wartime president. I can see the commercials now.

Why don’t cannibals eat clowns? Because they taste funny.
