Silence is Golden

Today's Tids Issue 4,523
Weekends are better than Testimony:

There are days when you are meandering along, with mind in the sky, and nothing of significance in the foreseeable future. Then you turn one single corner and you see nothing but sunshine. And suddenly you are in a new world. Just like that.

“The Crown” returns to Netflix Sunday, and I see that it will be as good as faithful watchers have come to expect.

I would guess that not many would classify Donald Trump as a sympathetic figure. So, when it comes down to fence sitters making the choice about thumbs up or thumbs down, he may not be getting the benefit of the doubt.

A brass band is a group of blowhards. Shoot me.

Last night Myles Garrett or NFL’s Cleveland Browns went well beyond the rules of the game, apparently trampling on the rule for an orderly society, when he ripped the helmet off of Pitt QB Mason Rudolph, and used it to whack the QB’s head. Garrett said he lost h s composure. I’ll say! This a case where outside authorities could enter into the fray by charging him with assault.

Probably the biggest event in Washington today is Trump’s request to have the Supreme Court look at his case to shield his tax returns form prosecutors. That could be essentially a landmark case about separation powers, which just happens to be the heart of the US system.

What if dogs in water aren’t swimming, but simply trying to stand up repeatedly.
I think that Trump should keep his tweeter in his pocket and let the Repub lawyer and Reps dig holes for those testifying.

The Question:
There have been man lovable couples on TV sitcom and drama shows, many who seemed genuinely love, or great pals. But I have a list of 12 pretty well-known TV couples who much to my surprise, how actually hatred each other. Guess.

One of the more interesting College games this weekend should be #12 Baylor against#10 Oklahoma. Also on tap is the rivalry game between Auburn and Georgia. A win would make Auburn’s season. It will be intriguing to watch Wake Forest play Clemson, as Wake had some dreams going on earlier. But Clemson is still Clemson even as ratings folks seem to have lost interest. Perhaps the best game of the weekend will be #16 Notre Dame against #21 Navy. This is always a great American tussle for pride, and this year, both teams are ranked.

I’d like to see a National title game between Clemson and Ohio State.

I’ve been rooting for Navy since the days when My Dad taught me about the pointy ended ball and introduced me to Navy games on the radio, just after the war. It was all Blanchard and Davis of Army then, but I never lost faith in the Midshipmen.

It appears that the Stock Markets are looking at the Big Washington Impeachment do as a Ho-Hummer.

It’s hard for me to believe that Adam Schiff hasn’t met or doesn’t know who the name of the Whistleblower. Here is an eager, ambitious Congressman literally putting his career in the hands of a person he says he has never met who says he has second information that will bring down the President of the USA.\\Maybe Schiff is altruistic. Yeah, sure.

I wonder how much money the phrase “Keep the Change” has cost me so far.

It appears that newly elected San Fran DA Chesa Boudin had as his governmental apprenticeship serving under Hugo Chaves in Venezuela. That should help San Fran out of their growing societal problems. (Note: Boudin’s parents were arrested after a Brinks robbery in New York where a two police officers were murdered. With his “Weathermen” parents in jail, he was adopted by Obama pals Bill Ayers and his wife Bernadine Dohrn.)

In China, a 100-football field wide, 150-foot-deep rubbish site, designed to last until 2044, has already reached its limit. Yes, what do a 1.3 billion people do with their trash? Maybe they’ll ban straws. They are going to build incinerators, which seems to make a lot of since.

Taking out the trash on a quiet evening with crickets chirping away can be most therapeutic. Just in case you are uptight.

It can be said that UConn opened the eyes for many about the quality of play in women’s college basketball; focused recognition of the sport across the country. People saw great shooting and the lost art of great passing. But now though, many schools have caught up to that perennial powerhouse. Gene Auriemma is getting older. So, if the Huskies can eke out one more championship, he will probably step down. But it will not be easy.

The Big East men’s basketball league has been touting that this will be their year for a big comeback following 2018’s mediocrity. But, in a just completed showdown with the Big 10, they did not fare to well.

“Poverty can’t be eliminated by punishing people who escaped poverty.” --PJ

There are 100 rapes per day in South Africa. Think about that number for a minute or two. Think about the fear of women simply walking down streets, of mothers seeing their girls going off to schools. In addition, 2,700 women have been killed by men in one year. Some recent grizzly discoveries has government officials waking up this this horrid reality, reexamining their focus. It’s about time.

Reading Between the Lines Movie Reviews;
--The Good Liar intrigues me, though critics weren’t crazy about it. Con man Ian McKellen has his eyes set on rich recently widowed Helen Mirren. It looks easy to Ian until he finds some secrets in this suspenseful drama.
--Ford Versus Ferrari is a good one based on a true story about Ford developing a race car to challenge Ferrari. Damon is legendary designer Carroll Shelby who with race driver Christian Bale fights rigid corporate structure to get their car on the tracks. Could be a surprise big hit.
--Charlie’s Angels has been recreated and it is fun and funny with a minimal plot to keep the girls moving seeking the bad guys.
--The Report is kind of a draggy film with a great cast about lead senate investigator Daniel Jones, a Government employee who battles the entrenched bureaucracy to get out a report on CIA Brutal Interrogation programs. Could be preachy. Solid and gripping.

The Answer:
#1 was Mila Kunis and Ashton Kutcher on That 70’s Show. The next one surprised me because they were so good as torn lovers on the scree – Stana Katic & Nathan Fillion in Castle!. Next is Lauren Graham & Scott Patterson on Gilmore Girls. You won’t believe the next one – the Mertzs – Vivian Vance and William Frawley on I Love Lucy. Gillian Anderson and David Duchovney were alien to each other. Nina Dobrev and Ian Somerholder in Vampire Diaries had a bloody relationship. Then surprisingly, there was Danny Thomas & Jean Hagen on make Room for Daddy, Patti LuPone & Bill Smitrovich in Life Goes On, Shelly Long & Ted Danson in Cheers, Julie McCullough & Kirk Cameron in Growing Pains. It probably helped the realty of the show Dynasty that Joan Collins and John Forsythe were at odds in real life. Nayea Rivera & Mark Salling were a not a good dance team in Glee. You never really know about actors.

Have a great weekend, E-v-e-r-y-b-o-d-y!!
