Politics interrupts a good walk in the Tids.

Today's Tids Issue 4,543
Drifting:

Despite all of the recent headlines of doom and devastation for America’s great, historic democracy, the real continuing threat is the slow drum beat of the rise of the extreme, and even the moderate left. That’s’ the problem, and that’s what congressional Repubs should be running against in 2020. And, it will be tough running against the candidates, and the media too.

I don’t think I’m a werewolf. I sleep well during full moons.

Something has to happen positively this time around on the China trade situation. There comes a time when playing that will-it, or won’t-it card just won’t be enough anymore. The markets will not hang on words forever.

As a salty snack devotee and dedicated in-between-meals-decadent foods-eater, I find it a daily struggle to turn off Cookies on my computer.

Winter and political angst can be pushed aside during the next four days as the President’s Cup world golf event takes the stage. The captains are two good old golfing rivals, Tiger Woods and Ernie Els. Relaxed Els was a favorite of mine and won a lot, but nothing like Woods, of course. We all know the dominance of Woods, but Ernie was no slug, having won 72 championships around the world (19 PGA, 47 EuroTour and 6 in specialty, select field tournaments. He won the US Open and the British Open each twice. The Big Easy got it done. He also was the biggest runner-up to Woods wins. And, you just had to like him.

How about Hong Kong Protestors as Time Mag’s POTY.

The Question:
It’s been 42 years since the days that began of John Travolta’s loved performance in the highly popular Saturday Night Fever. Name five songs form the movie that changed culture for a moment or two.

It appears that the Governor of RI may be one of the first to implement a new thing called Transportation and Climate Initiative which is basically a tax on gasoline, in this case a 24-cent blast to the wallet. ] guess the idea is that getting people off gas in RI is a good way to save the world from climate disasters (Or making carbon so expensive that people accept expensive alternative energy). Let’s see, RI measures about 1500 square miles of which 1,046 square miles is land. The earth measure 57.268,900 square miles, making RI a .00018 % influence against climatic change attacks. Jeez, Elizabeth Warren’s Indian heritage is bigger than that. Fortunately, the first gasoline station in Massachusetts is but 17 miles from me.

Are corn-Dogs vegetables?

The ole’ pickers came through a tough week ok, even with some strange upsets. Our record rose to 137-68-1 (67%). Tonight, we have Baltimore against the Jets. People are saying the Jets are playing much better, and I believe it. But Baltimore has it going, and they will not fall at home to the NY team. The tougher picks this week are the GB-da Bears rival game, playoff ramifications Tenn vs Houston, Den vs KC, lowlifes Miami and Giants, Rams and Cowboys and near neighbors Buffalo-Pittsburgh. I have to pick the Pack at their icy home. The Titans and Texas (Both with ex Patriot head coaches) should be a war, but I’ll take Houston. Now KC is 9-4 vs Broncs 5-8. Split Personality Denver has been tough in their thin air, but I have to go KC. Miami is looking a little better and the Giants repeatedly prove they are inept. If Eli plays, it could be his last game in NYC. I’ll pick Giants. I have to pick the Rams over the struggling Cowpokes. Buffalo is good. Bit Pitt is rising nicely from the dead. I pick home team Pittsburgh.

Of the rest I go New England over Cinncy and Philly over Washington. TB seems to be emerging from a downturn and will take QB-Less Detroit. I’ll take West Coast over Southeast -- Seattle over Carolina and Oakland over Jax. I have to tell you that Cleveland versus Arizona is a big mystery to me. Cleve should win but that’s when the Browns lose. Arizona to wake up. Finishing up, I go Minn over the Chargers, New Orleans over Indy and San Fran at home easily over Atlanta – that is, if the Niners have recovered from the NO Thriller.

A smarter than average reader suggests that this Tids guy avoid buying companies named Robinhood!

I think black is in. Especially for people walking along the side of busy streets. At night. When it’s raining. When there is no moon.

I expect that not many Dems will remember that Prez Clinton had a clear but muddy Quid Pro Quo event with Yeltsin. The desperate Russian boss wanted US help in his very tough election. And Bill, also running, said, sure Boris, as long as you lift the ban on alleged tainted chickens from the USA. Boris said yes, Bill, I will. Bill’s backers at Arkansas’s based Tyson were very happy. (Note: From a leaked memorandum of conversation obtained from Washington Times.) Mike McCurry, White House Press Secretary at the time, did not deny the exchange.

Do you think that designers create ugly clothes so big discount outlet retailers will have something to sell?

Did you see where the Ya, Ya’s will be paying just acquired pitcher Gerrit Cole a guaranteed $36 Million per year for 9 years? Remember the last time the Bronx Bomber overpaid a guy who killed them in the playoffs? A failed Jacoby Ellsbury, who they just let go still owing him $26 mill. BTW, Cole is 29. Pitchers arms generally deteriorate into their thirties, so says this rabid Red sox fan.

Jacoby was one of my all-time favorites.

Little leagues are necessary so that that very few super players on their way up have a competitive place to paly

We are talking a lot about nobody above the law, so how about that hardy Weinstein who just had is bail raised from $1 Million ot $5 million for disengaging his electronic bracelet. And how about his Mafia chieftain-like entrance into court, on a walker.

The near endless College Bowl season is upon us starting with two on December 20 – Bahamas Bowl Buffalo 7-5 vs Charlotte 7-5, and Frisco Bowl Utah State 7-5 vs Kent State 6-6. Be warned that among the 52 bowls with a handful of games featuring teams with decent records you would want to see, there are also 36 teams that have 7-5 or 6-6 records! Holy ineptitude, Batman! It’s called the travesty bowl series. The Trophies-for-All society lives.

I’ll have my eyes on the Cheez-It Bowl.

The Answer:
I never saw Saturday Night Fever, but I did observe how it overtook the senses of people for a few years. Stayin’ Alive was the big one, I guess. The rest are Night on Dance Mountain, How Deep is Your Love, Open Sesame, Night Fever, Jive Talkin’, More than a Woman, If I can’t have you, You Should be Dancin’ and Boogie Shoes.

When the Dems finish voting, can Christmas begin?

What if stones are super nervous organisms and only become rigid, tensing up when we touch them?
