Regular people

Today's Tids Issue 4,549
Spring?

I read this morning of a loss of a beautiful life. Of a tragic loss of a woman who just seemed to give and give; make people laugh, make people feel good about themselves. She, single mother 4 kids, was killed in a senseless mass shooting in the coastal town of Westerly RI. It’s hard to describe how I felt, not knowing the woman, but understanding how much she meant to so many. How hard she worked for her children. She is one of so many who contribute to this world beyond the spotlight. It’s a damn shame that it takes a grizzly death for people to see all of the good real people do every day, in their own neighborhoods, in their ow homes. Her death just got to me. I had to write something.

This weekend the days get longer. Feeling warmer?

The calorie count on his flavored carbonated drink was just soda-pressing.

If we take away TV and mass communications, we are really back to appreciating and interacting with regular people, understanding what people just like them are doing for each other.

Hey, we are about to end a decade! It says here that it was a rare decade without a recession. Is it because new technology is more adaptive to ups and downs, or because there are fewer scoundrels  or opportunists making bad decisions.

Bummer! I just learned that one of the best games of the year – Pats Versus Bills (And key games LA-SF, Houston-TB) will only be on the Premium NFL Network, which I don’t have. If I pay to see it, it will feel like extortion. But what do you expect from company selling Super Bowl seats for $6000?

I love words like raucous, rambunctious and rapturous.

The Question:
Dick Wolf is a renown producer of generally good TV shows. Name three of his best. Bonus: Name the top TV crimefighting duos of all time.

Financial advisors says the thing about naked calls is there’s too much exposure.

The Bulls have been running on Wall Street, but many fine old companies have been sent out to pasture. The All-American Sears is certainly one of them. Many others are munching on grass or under it – Payless, Gymboree, Dress barn, Chicos and Office Depot.

Early peeks at the markets for 2020 say it will be good but not rolling and rambunctious like 2019.

There are a couple of new Christmas pics on The Tids site worldviewetc.blogspot.com.

More people are routinely dismissing religions. So, it won’t take much in the future for many to rationalize against the constitution. Don’t be surprised.

Ending a decade also means that we will all be bombarded by best of, most of and worst of decade lists.

Is there a possibility that appliance manufacturers are trying to reacquaint consumers with the idea of buying brightly colored major appliances! Let’s hope it isn’t olive green!

After Mark Spitz record breaking world championships, the next year we saw the entire Russian team wore mustaches like is. The Russian coach figured that it made him go faster. And that is the truth from Russia.

Also on the negative side of life, drug giant CVS is closing my small, people friendly, little ole’ personal neighborhood CVS. But, they have developed a new disembodied voice computer system that drives me crazy. So, I’m supposed to be happy, right?

You have to figure there are boatloads of lawyers working 24/7 on ways to end Nancy’s holdup.

Reading Between the Lines Movie Reviews:
--Cats was a huge Broadway Musical, but will it translate even with a big cast? Well the songs will be enjoyed but the film needs a little catnip. It costs a lot to make but it will be clawing, or is that cloying. Customers will be scratching the doors get out. I suspect though that lovers of the musical and the songs will say it is Ok.
--Bombshell is just another attack on Roger Ailes and Fox News. If you watched the streaming version, you saw I all.
--As Star Wars movies go, “Star Wars: The rise of Skywalker is not a good one. It is just too fast, too much action blurs the time to reflect on what’s happened.
(Note: Big films coming for December 25 are 1917, Little Women, Clemency, and Spies in Disguise.)

The Answer:
Wolf probably had his breakthrough with the highly popular Miami Vice. The ranked favorite Dick Wolf shows are Law & Order: SVU, Law & Order, Chicago PD, Chicago Fire, Chicago Med, L&O: Criminal Intent, Chicago Justice, New York Undercover, FBI and #10 L&O: LA. There are 43 shows listed for Wolf, the last being 3AM. I always enjoyed LO Criminal intent which reminded me a little of Columbo. Bonus: #1 is “Supernatural” which I have never seen and barely heard of. Next is Sherlock followed by The X Files, Castle, Lucifer, Batman, Starsky & Hutch, Elementary, Moonlighting and Bones ar-t 310. Going out to the top 25 we have Rizzoli & Isles, White Collar, Remington Stele, True Deyective, Psych, Miami Voce, Magnum PI, Simon & Simon, Star Trek (Original) (Crime Fighting?) Monk, CHips, Longmire, Grimm, Numbers and Cagney & Lacey. (Note: Meghan Markle’s Suits came in #55. Some down the line that I would have put way up are the Original The Avengers, McMillan and Wife and Hart to Hart. What about Dragnet and I Spy? And, what about one of the best ever – Maxwell Smart and good ole’ 99? What abut them?

There’s a town in Norway called “Hell”. It freezes over often! Just in case you’re looking for accuracy in your clichés. You know, considering these unpredictable times.

Happy Weekend, E-v-e-r-y-b-o-d-y!!
