Today's Tids Issue 5,528
The heart versus the numbers.
Fields of wildflowers,
Make me stop.
I stand and stare,
And think,
I should be dancing there.
I am reading a lot about AI and what seems to be a growing sense of “irrational exuberance" and I'm thinking, can you spell b-u-b-b-l-e!
Playing golf in a lightning storm is one of my least favorite things.
A politician uses statistics like a drunk uses a streetlight. For support, rather than illumination.

Life never stops giving us wonderful challenges.
Musicians, artists and even chefs have adoring groupies, but Tids writers just sit lost in the shadows.
Someday I'm going to study the Fibonacci sequence. But there is already enough fog outside.
I was talking to some friends about my fetish for anything statistics related... and apparently, it's not a standard deviation.
Today the market got crushed because, they say, the economic news was so good that the Wall Street mavens thought it would squash any hope for rate easing. Now if these statistics manipulating clowns had been reading biz news for the past week, and even in this mess, they would have known there was little hope of lowering interest rates. It is all a big game.
I and many have always thought the US would do well to have great rail service. Most efforts to now have seemed about half-hearted to me. Maybe they are finally getting there with more emphasis, it seems a improving on Amtrak. The big US hauler has just published their new ne menu -- Breakfast: Overnight oats, egg frittata, pastries from local bakeries in Boston, New York City and Washington, D.C. Other breakfast items include blueberry muffins, croissants, and sausage, egg and cheese sandwiches. Lunch/Dinner: Mediterranean salad, peppered turkey sandwich, chicken & mozzarella pesto sandwich. Other lunch and dinner dishes include gourmet antipasto trays, fruit trays and turkey and Havarti sandwiches. Snacks: Artisan cheese & fruit tray and a charcuterie plate. Other snacks include beef jerky, gummy bears, peanut-butter cups and Smartfood. Wine: Daou chardonnay and Banshee pinot noir. Hmmm. What happened to chicken and gravy?
Statistics are like bikinis. What they reveal is suggestive, but what they conceal is vital.
We hear of a parallel universe, but we don't really know whether or not such a phenomena exists in reality or statistically, or could exist at all outside the mind of a science fiction writer. But we do know that there is a parallel economy in the USA. Where statistics say we are great, and a small group is rolling in cash and the in the other economy based on reality where empeople wonder how they can afford anything.
My statistics professor told me I was average... I told her, "that's Mean".

They don't sell Beef Jerky at the entrance to Cliffwalk, just in case you are interested.
Why is studying statistics hard to do in Afghanistan? Because of the tally-ban
