Today's Tids Issue 5,510

Mindlessness can be helpful:

There off! Well, not quite unit Saturday, But May is off and running this morning in its usual mellow way. May is a month where the word lovely often applies. A softness of days. A time of lilting hearts and full blooming trees. It’s a month that also roars at the end with the Indy and the official first holiday of outside play. And of course, we remember. Oh how do we remember those who gave. Because we are free, it’s a month that greets us with communist rhetoric as well as the fun of Mexican festivals. (But soare me the Tacos). And of course we get the great sink-o-de-mayo pun. I have always liked May. Somehow, Tenderness comes to mind. Maybe it is allthe Moms.

The tight camera angles make the activities on campuses look universal. Yet beyond the handful of losers there, a miniscule part of a society, I see vast majorities of Americans living life as civilized societies do.

Doctor: I shall now amputate the patients' leg with my bare hands; Nurse: I don't think he can pull it off.

The Question:

What seven countries for the bottom of Africa?

The Headlines:

A protestor whose ancestors grew weed is a grass roots activist.

A reader tells me that “Coca Cola’s 2024 first quarter sales were $11.3 Billion and Profit $3.18 Billion.” He adds that “he is
Amazed how sugar, water and syrup can generate so much money.” Up til about a year and a half ago te average "sale” price for the large bottle of Coke/Pepsi products was about $1.06 against the regular per bottle shelf price of $2.79. Now it appears both companies are trying to normalize the “Sale” price for their products at about $2.50 per bottle. The regular price for Coke is $2.99 and for Pepsi it is typically $3.29. Tatls tje kind of inflation consumers see bubbling up. BTW, I now but Walmart's Sam’s Cola. It tastes fine to me.

Uh-oh, its tourist time. I just saw the police van outside activating Parking lot meters. So, they’ll be coming soon, However, with Bidens infrastructure spending in full sway now we are libel to lose several tourists in detours.

Earlier this week we talked about McDonalds seeing fewer meals sold. Today it is Yum Corp (KFC/Pizza Hut) and Starbucks saying consumers seem to have been putting rubber bands around their wallets and blocking their digital pay programs. One reason given by anxious CEOs: dining at home. Perish the thought.

Protestors looted a Payless Shoe store last night. They cleaned the place out, leaving nothing but work boots...

It’s amazing how complex my days become while I'm wondering why I'm not doing anything.

Reading between the big headlines of the moment, I'm thinking that the election is coming down to Abortion versus kitchen table economics.

The Answer.

Of course, South Africa is the big one at the bottom. The others are Namibia, Botswana. Zimbobwe, Mozambique and two tiny ones Eswatini (Formerly Swaziland) and Leotha which is actually within South Africa.

Tune in tomorrow. They will have new names.

You know the world is changing rapidly when you hear millennials saying the world is changing too rapidly. Chill.
