Complicated Mind.

Today's Tids Issue 2,270
Opening Stuff:

The world would be a more beautiful place if all the mirrors would be slanted backward.

If Pat Sajek with his "Final Spin" lands on "Bankrupt", would Wheel of Fortune go off the air?

Sick to my stomach Department:
How many times over the years have we pointed out with amazement the changing opinions on serious medical pronouncements. In my personal devious mind I always thought many of the startling so=called scientific conclusions were publicity driven for promotional purposes. One of the biggest scares was that vaccine causes autism. An accusation which resulted in panicking mothers and because of that may have eventually led to illness and even death for children as mothers resisted vaccine. Now, you have probably seen the news story that told of London's Doctor Wakefield who extrapolated data from a mere 12 of his personal cases into a condemnation of an industry built to improve the health of all people. It turns out that he fudged the data to earn $750,000 from lawyers who wanted to sue vaccine manufacturers! Gadzooks! Most of our Congress and exec Branch and SC are lawyers...aren't they. Maybe if i can find an honest lawyer I could bring a class action suit against lawyers. Maybe I could find a dishonest lawyer to extrapolate some data. Nah.

The Question:
Double Bonus day -- 1. This is one of those perception/reality questions. Which two NBA teams have the most titles in the past 12 years? 2. One thing you can be sure of is that the hot winter outerwear of today will be in the Salvation Army bin tomorrow. Name five "Must-Have-to-be-'in' manufacturers" of the past 10-15 years.

Back to More Stuff:
You probably noticed an over abundance of...ahem...um...typos yesterday. If you want to see a typo-less 1/5 Tids (Oh, that was one of the Typos -- Yesterday's Tids was the 5th not a repeat of the 4th), go to: http://todaystids.blogspot.com/2011/01/almost-near.html

You would think that a good liberal would like a guy who cried.

Serial Novel Department:
Almost Near: Chapter 1: Smantha Jergans had never felt better. Maybe it was the unadorned beauty of the marshland and tidal beaches alongside the Annisquam River that welcomed her to Cape Ann Massachussetts. She had just finished a lunch of fried clams in Essex, one of the most beautiful places of her memories. Now as her sturdy Jeep wound north through a tunnel caressed by comforting trees and antique homes, she only thought of going home again. To her perfect town on Lobster Cove off the River Separating Cape Ann from Essex. She made her left turn at the spired, white church which even looked more special than she had remembered. Her heart was now racing, a feeling she always had when she thought of her town. Her special place. The car eased to the crest of the hill which would start her decent into the town. Then, a tear wound down her cheek as she looked up to see the giant maple sitting high and commanding on the hilltop that overlooked the village. A sentry. The tree who's trunk bore the initials her lover had carved there many years ago.

As long as Charles Schumer and Harry Reid remain in the Senate, there is absolutely no chance of attaining bi-partisanship.

Playoff picks: The old Tids Sports department had a pretty good year, especially considering the craziness of the season where many darlings disappointed and some of the forgotten like KC surprised. The toughest games are Jets-Indy and Green Bay-Philly. First, I pick the Ravens over the Chiefs 27-24 and the Saints over the Seahawks 28-13. I like the way Green Bay is finishing. I think they will upset the Eagles and Vick 34-31. Manning is just too good to be denied and Freeney/Mathis will harrass Sanchez. It will be Hard Knocks for Ryan's "Foot"ball team who will loose 29-7.

Did you see where the Omaha High School killer student was rated by friends as being "Fun, Outgoing"? Maybe kids should get more serious about life.

That news item above about the Town of Narragansett's action against habitually rowdy (And often quite obnoxious) students living in pleasant neighborhoods is an interesting one. The URI Student Senate instead of pointing the finger at the rowdies as an embarrassment to all responsible students, decided in their immature political vigor to join with the ACLU in a lawsuit against the town. The simple solution would have been to tell their pals to "Shape Up"!

The Answer:
If you read the papers and the publicity coming out of the NBA office, you would think that teh only teams that have mattered are the Lakers, Celtics, Heat, Magic and maybe the Mavericks. But in fact, after the Lakers five championships in the last 12 years, it is the below the radar San Antonio Spurs who have won four! And people are always surprised when they learn that SA has the best record in basket ball today. The other titles were won by the Heat, Celtics and Detroit Pistons. If you go back 15 years, then you have to add 3 for the Chicago Bulls, who incidentally are a bit resurgent now. 2. I saw a "CB" fleece pull-over the other day and rememebred when you just had to a have CB or you were nothing. Of course today it is Northface. But, it has been Columbia, Helly-Hanson and LL Bean.

The End:
The first big lie of the "Trust Chafee" administration is that he is "Independent". He is owned by more special interest groups than any Gov. in recent history.

Adam Sandler is funny?
