Two as one.

Today's Tids Issue 4,396
Yes dear!

Somehow, I was inspired to talk about matrimony this morning. Maybe it was the Herman Wouk remembrance below. Marriage is a bond built upon appreciation. Of drawing from each other, ideas, solutions, and support. Not fighting to win but agreeing to grow. Two together plus two together is far more than 1 plus 1. Everything but Everything starts with harmonious homesteads. That’s not to say it is always bluebirds singing, and colorful rainbows across green valleys. It isn’t easy. In fact, it takes intense dedication at times, when storm clouds rise and oceans roil. But, tides go out and tides come in; crashing surf subsides into rippling wavelets. Clouds recede to blue skies; onerous heavy air turns fresh and dry. Love so inured holds the course steady as fierce winds blow. But, it’s not easy. And yes, sometimes it just can’t work. Perfection doesn’t just happen. It takes two to give, and two to accept.

Happy Memorial Day. May our resolve never flag.

A newspaper photo over the weekend was captioned “Hello Summer!” It depicted an extraordinarily crowded beach scene, people smothering people, no place to walk, much less find space in the water. I used to love beaches, or make that, swimming off the beaches. But now all it is, is one big hassle. Is summer over yet?

Remember buttercups? How kids of yore before the internet store, would sit and look for yellow reflection on the throat. “You love Butter,” we would cry. And I would think, I hope so. I hope that butter cup works on me. Because I love butter.

Jealousy and envy are two negative human emotions that seem more apparent today than ever. I see a lot of disparaging of others with talents by some who believe are beyond their own; even demeaning them to support perceived limitations. But, everybody possesses unique talents. Instead of focusing one that others have, we should pour energy into perfecting what we have, regardless of what society says is chic and contemporary.

Do Apps really have to update as often as they do? All that happens is that storage space disappears. Drives me crazy.

I have reasonably decent hand/eye coordination. Yet, I always fail to achieve a well-executed fist bump or high five. They are just unnatural acts of celebration to me.

The Question:
In what state is Ellis Island? Bonus: What is the difference between jealousy and envy?

Trump’s personal demeanor tends to help irrational democrats look good to an uneducated voter bloc.

Herman Wouk died last week at the age of 104. His life’s work and accomplishments is a tribute to a good woman, an urging wife in a great marriage. He has always admitted he was just a clever gag writer until his new wife reoriented his talent, which became greatness. Among many notable efforts, he wrote Winds of War, War and Remembrance, both of which became huge TV series. But first he gave us The Caine Mutiny, a true American classic. He could write, he was talented. He made Fred Allen funny. But he was nowhere until a woman walked into his life.

The Dem Congress is complaining that President Trump won’t let them do anything. Hey, doesn’t this constitutionally defined independent organization have as its main purpose in life he creation of the budget and laws?  They could pass an infrastructure program. They could solve the illegal immigration assault at our southern border with an Immigration reform edict. Congress has the constitutional right to get things started. And funded. But, they would rather blame the President for their own inaction in an election year. That’s what it is all about.

I have always been told never to run holding sharp objects. That’s why I never jog with Cheddar.

BTW, why do we need immigration reform anyhow, when it is already illegal for people breaking and entering.

It looks like old fashioned lilac trees on country lanes will be blooming soon. That means that orange day lilies in clumps neath gray stone walls will be softening our hearts with memories of calming earlier times.

Self-driving cars could lead to the biggest era ever of Government intrusion. Let’s face it, more people than not love driving. Maybe the second amendment should be expanded for modern times to prevent government from also taking away beloved automobiles? And, as for safety on the roads, people will always find new ways to kill each other, accidently or on purpose. Am I a cynic? Yes, I am.

The left says they are 100% for gender neutrality yet they get orgasmic when women march on Washington to bring down men.

I think I have figured out why some restaurants go to the expense of serving a free salad first before all meals. It’s to help mask the annoying effect of a very slow kitchen. Are they cooking my food yet?

The Biggest Pothole:
States, well at least this one, clamor for new sources of revenue, using the need to fix roads as the cause for such emergency funding. They create ingenious tolling schemes or fee structures based on repairing deteriorated roads and bridges. But in fact, the deterioration is the result of misspending moneys’ appropriated year after year for infrastructure maintenance. And secondarily, because contractor relatives of legislators who are chosen for road work are known to buy inferior materials, surely to need repair earlier than scheduled. Much of the misspending is due to money siphoned off to help politicians to fulfill their ideological whims or promises made to constituents for votes. One most prevalent budget busting demands today is paying for free education, free health care, housing subsides et. al. for illegal immigrants. (Note the word, illegal.) It is estimated at about $278 Million. That’s a lot of bridges and raids. So when your government asks for more money to fix potholes and more, they are really asking you to pay more for government largess.

Mosquitos were developed by God to help us appreciate flies.

Nothing surprises me anymore, and I will not be startled the least bit when Unions begin organizing robots, and activists create a new protected gender sector for AI siblings.

Jon Voight says Trump is the greatest President since Abe Lincoln. I went to HS with the three Voight brothers. They were all very talented golfers with a flair for drama.

On Memorial Days past, I always listen on the radio to the Indy Five Hundred while cutting back rambling forsythia bushes.

I did one of those little quizzes that pop up from time to time on smart phones. This was about answering questions to determine which state we would find most comfortable living in. Mine turned out be Iowa. How about that, Iowa. I like Iowa.

Although, as comforting as Iowa appears, I might move back to beautiful socialist RI during election caucus years.

Is it time to buy Alibaba? Or is recent positive hoopla for this stock, that had sensational earnings, just an attempt by Wall Street promoters trying to recapture losses?

The Answer:
Yes, that was a trick question. While Ellis is in New York Harbor and to get to Ellis you take a boat from southern NYC. You could get to the famed immigration island by badge form NJ, if the government ever opened it to the public. The island has a land area of 27.5 acres where just 3. 3 acres are in New York. 24.2 are officially by Supreme Court decision in New Jersey. So what is the answer? I gotta give it to NJ. The three islands of Liberty Park known today as Liberty Island (Statue Of), Black Tom Island and Ellis Island were originally named The Oyster Islands by the first Dutch settlers. In colonial times they were famous for Clam Bakes, Oyster roasts and picnics. Bonus: Envy occurs when we lack a desired attribute enjoyed by others. Jealousy occurs when something we already possess (Usually a special relationship) is threatened by a third person. Envy is reaction to lacking something, while Jealousy is a reaction to the threat of losing something, someone.

God bless America! Sing it Kate, like you’ve never sang it before.
