Flowers in May?

Today's Tids Issue 3.289
Opening Stuff:

You have to wonder what all of the little crocus and daffodils beneath ground are thinking. The angle of the sun is beginning to say,  “Start rustling your petals; it’s time to wake up and color world above. The little flowers though must look up at the frost line hovering above their heads, shiver a bit, and wonder if a new ice age is upon them. We can dream of flowers everywhere, even though they are not there, it’s that hope that keeps you warm, when the weather folks announce another storm. The crocus will come, they’re tough little buggers.

This Russia Ukraine thing is a real chess match. Putin seems to want a land Bridge to Crimea. But then yesterday he said there will be no war in the Ukraine, which he must do to appease the sanction hungry West (Or at least US) as he covertly urges the Separatists to keep on taking land. Today the Russian state owned gas company threatened to discontinue service to Ukraine, a gentle reminder to the leadership there just who is in charge of their future. He agreed to what now appears to have been a one sided cease fire and then spent two days mocking it. ISIS is scary, but I always have an eye focused on bare-chested horseback rider with KGB credentials.

The two finalists in the just past weekend PGA tourney playoff, Kevin Hahn and Dustin Johnson, wore white, Taylor Made R-15 caps. Hahn’s was the traditional curved brim and Johnson’s was the newer version big domed, flat brim. Johnson didn’t look as smart as Hahn. Just an opinion, from an observation.

The Question:
1. It’s time to think about planting, as hard as that may be to imagine. In what country did Crocus originate? 2. Crocus are grown to harvest what spice?

The Headlines:
--Investment Community Awaits Yellen; Observers Will be Measuring Tone Of Her Comments.
--ISIS Kidnaps Over 70 of Christians In Syria; Objective Is To Wipe Out Christianity, According To Analyses.
--Senate Dems Block GOP Effort To Tie DHS Funding To “O” Immigration Actions.
--Alaska Joins Washington And Colorado As Recreational Marijuana Smoking States; Subaru Sales Expected To Rise In Alaska.
--French Authorities Concerned Over Suspicious Drone Flights.

Whenever I see a headline, “Activist says: “…”, I rarely read the story. The activists doesn’t care about the other side of the story, and the reporter doesn’t go out to find it.

I will never understand why people should get big checks for sick days not taken.

How about the food authorities reversing, or at least easing their opinions of evil cholesterol staples steaks and eggs. Reversals of rock solid scientific evidence happens all the time which is why I never get very excited about pronouncements for Washington, or singular minded organizations. It’s just another example of one sided activism voicing an agenda and using publicity organizations to make it appear like news to the media.

Alaska has joined Colorado and Washington as the only states approving recreational marijuana, and yet Rhode Island is named as the state with the highest percentage of marijuana smokers. We must really have a lot of medical problems here!

When Unions bargain with government entities they come to agreements before the real Employers ever know what’s happening, if they ever do. Now, if representatives actually did represent the constituencies, things might have a chance to change.

The USA should not violate the religious beliefs of citizens, even if society doesn’t like those religious beliefs. The woman florist who didn’t supply flowers to a gay wedding should not be persecuted because of a law that forces her to be in conflict with her beliefs, and may violate the constitution. As one observer said in answer to those who say that say “Religious beliefs are protected by the first amendment, but not necessarily the actions based on those beliefs”: “So, It’s Ok to believe in God so long as you don’t follow the tenets of your faith.”

The Answer:
1. Crocus’s come from Crete. The Dutch take credit for them but they are only native to Crete. I guess some seeds flew over to Turkey because the Dutch plants came from there via Holy Roman Empire operatives in the 1500’s. 2. The valuable spice that comes from fields of crocus is Saffron!

22 degrees is the new heat wave.

We’re all waitin’ to hear what Yellen is tellin’. If it ain’t gellin’, I’m sellin’.

See ya tomorrow.
