Today's Tids Issue 4,259
Just strummin':

I realized last night what had been missing for a year for so. It was the pure peace and utter quiet of new fallen snow. Sensing the contentment from creating the first footprints upon an unsullied landscape. Feeling the gentle flakes bouncing off my chilling nose, and hearing nothing but hat crunch of snow beneath my shoes. Through the silence came a church bell ringing its solemn tune; absorbed into, softened by the drifting snow.

Speaking of mellow and rhythmically comforting, about that old recording of “In the Still of the Night” by Fred Paris and the Satins? One of the best ever that never loses its enjoyment.

Anybody who doesn’t think that tweeting et.al. hasn’t been one of the biggest national disruptions of all time hasn’t been paying attention.

The Question:
In the comic strip, ”Shoe”, this morning the question was asked: “Has there ever been any celebrities from Idaho?” Well, of course there have been some celebs from the potato state. Name four. Bonus: For what role is Marge Helgenberg best known?

The Headlines:

It was almost fitting that Keith Urban won the CMA performer of the year award the day that the absolutely great Roy Clark died. Keith and Roy are acknowledged as two of the greatest guitarists in county music ever. Roy has often been called the greatest. Of course, my friend form Nashville says neither, as nobody measures up to Chet Atkins.

On a Country music Top 100 Guitarist list, #1 is Chet Atkins followed by Merle Travis, Joe Maphis, Roy Clark, Speedy West, Albert Lee, Maybelle Carter, Buddy Emmons, Noel Biggs and Jerry Byrd. Keith Urban is 46. In 1966, John Sabastian (Of Lovin’ Spoonful) noted that “There’s thirteen hundred and fifty-two guitar pickers in Nashville, each of whom played clean as country water.” So, if you find a guy pickin’ away somewhere in and around Nashville, chances are he or she is pretty darn good. Stop and take a listen.

Roy Clark. Roy Clark was one of those entertainers who each week was welcomed with open arms in to homes across America as host with Buck Owen of the wonderfully satisfying show “Hee-Haw”. As some of the aging folks like to say nowadays, those were the times when we laughed at simple humor and hummed to happy tunes with non-conflicting words we knew. And Roy Clark was the face of it all.  And I for one always left that show smiling with him.
“I forgot what to buy,” Tom said listlessly.

While new congressional Dems are not saying they are draining the swamp, it appears by their actions that they intend to if they can get the votes. Actually, Repubs would dearly love Nancy Pelosi to stay in power so they can use her as a dart board in their campaign to regain power in two years.

Yesterday, I good guy I know asked me if putting out this Tids thing every day was a grind. I said absolutely not. In fact, I told him, most mornings I race through the newspaper because I’m so excited about expressing new ideas. Even on those mornings when I stare foggily at a blank computer screen without an idea in my aging brain, I still love the challenge of ferreting out a few reasonable readable thoughts. It is a thrill to be able to express diverse information in a way that hopefully more people accept than reject. The hardest part is trying to eliminate politics in a world where ideological arguing has become so pervasive. Was it always like this? Probably not before twitted and facebook. There are even days when I read this mess and say to myself, “Hey, that wasn’t too bad.”

Reason 4,987 why President Donald John Trump Should stop talking: Yesterday he went on about Whitaker who, at different times he has said he doesn’t know, had never met and maybe he knew from some association. He ranted at Mueller and through several cloudy statements implied possible obstruction of justice. According to DoJ legal watchers, “He publicly forecasts his motivation in a way that is self-defeating and self-incriminating”. This, after alluding to the to the fact that he tapped Whitaker primarily to constrain the Russia investigation.” The tweeting is elevating at a time when many are saying that Mueller is getting ready to speak. Is he showing some nervousness? Silence is golden, not pink marble.

And, it appears that soon to be on the list of people who shouldn’t Tweet is Bette Middler, once again in cyber trouble for another negative insult to Melania.

The Ten Best Airports are considered to be #1 Phoenix, then Salt Lake City, Portland (Oreg), San Diego, Tampa, Charlotte, Philadelphia, Washington Dulles, Houston George Bush and Washington Ronald Reagan. The Ten Worst are Kennedy NY, LaGuardia NY, Newark, LA, Fort Lauderdale, O’Hare, Orlando, Dallas/Fort Worth, San Fran and Seattle/Tacoma.

News Item: Celine Dion launches gender neutral clothing line for kids. So?

The highly successful CEO of Cisco Systems, John Chambers has opened a new Venture capital firm funded by himself called JC2 Ventures. He is currently invested in 12 companies with one more to be announced shortly. His investing creed: “For the companies I select, if they are arrogant, I don’t touch it. I have developed a criteria. If the CEO doesn’t want to be coached, if they don’t know what they don’t know, and truly if the chemistry is off, I don’t touch them.” I think there is a message in there. He must also like Roy Clark

Reading between the Lines Movie Reviews:
--Fantastic Beast: The Cries Of Grindelwald is by far the least critically acclaimed movie of the week, but pretty much liked by audiences, and of course Harry Potter fans. Grindelwald escapes from MACUSA with the intent of gathering up his unsuspecting followers to help him raise pure blood wizards up to rule over all non-magical beings. Love and loyalty are tested even among close friends.
--Now, Critics love “Widows” most likely because of the director Steve McQueen and the message – women are more than subservient housewives. It is called a political drama even though it revolves around a heist, as four recently widowed (by gang assassination) former wives of substandard criminals justify crime in the name of combatting a political swamp. It’s probably watchable if you can overlook the preaching.
--A Private War is the biography of celebrated war correspondent Marie Colvin. It follows her frontlines courage through losing an eye in a hand grenade explosion to bouts of depression as she fights against the many traumatic events she ahs witnessed. Her constant mission is to illustrate the true cost of war. I don’t remember comedians disparaging her eye patch.
--People, seem to be loving the movie Instant Family. Its about an upper income married couple who have everything they need except kids. They stumble into foster child adoption and must quickly learn parenting to cope with now three teen children who definitely have ideas of their own.
--The Green Book is one of those movies that may jump and grab a lot of people. An Italian bouncer from the Bronx is hired to drive a world class black pianist on a concert tour through the deep south. The Green Book is a guide to the few establishments safe for blacks. The twosome learns to give up their differences to survive together from the racism and physical danger.

The Answer:
Top of the list of famed Idahoans is Ezra Pound, the great poet. Next on the list is probably Sacagawea, the Indian woman who showed Lewis and Clarke the way. Harmon Killebrew was a home run for Idaho. And then, who could ever forget Sarah Palin. Not me. Others are Movie director Maggie Carey, Actress Scout LaRue, Miami QG Brock Osweiller, TV Actor Jeremy Shada and actor Aaron Paul. So, Idaho isn’t California. That’s what makes it so nice. Bonus: Marge Helgenberger won an Emmy for her role as K.C. Koloski in China Beach, but is best known as Catherine Willows in CSI: Crime Scene Investigation. Marge has also been a resolute spokesperson for cancer funding: “The value of a Dollar”.

Have a great weekend, E-v-e-r-y-b-o-d-y!!
