Repubs? Sisyphian?

Today's Tids Issue #2,353
Opening Stuff:

Yikes! It's Friday the 13th. Not a good omen for the return of the Tids.

The stone keeps rolling back upon them Department.
Do you have a feeling that the more you observe the confusion that the Repubs have little chance of winning in 2012. Most of the newly announced entrants had started trying ot de-accentuate the negatives way before the hat in the ring. And the friends in the Media will be no help. Immediately upon announcing GOP candidacies are barraged with loud reports about small inadequacies. For instance, when news came out that Obama had been pals with noted extreme, anti American radicals like Atkins of ChiTown, the major media ignored it. But, a GOP hangnail morphs into controversy. And then, there is the party infighting where the Tea Party may say he/she's not conservative enough, and another faction may say he/she's too conservative. The point here is that I am very uncomfortable with the way this is unfolding. Actually, I am quite comfortabel with the goals of the Tea Party but very uneasy about their potential for disrupting unity. In other words every time I feel hope, somebody greases the hill and stone slips back to ground zero.

Wind Power will generate far more headlines than power over the next 15 to 20 years. It like most alternative energy proposal so much in favor with his admin are just plain inefficient, and more expensive. hey, we need to be looking forward, but not to the detriment of being smart today.

The Question:
Bert Bachrach turns 80, but in the 70's musical ears were turning to his tunes. Name 10 of his best known hits. Special Disaster Day Bonus: Name 13 silly superstitions.

Back to More Stuff:
American Idol: Want to live in a world with out surprises? Read the Tids. Here's what I wrote about American Idol on Tuesday this week. Look it up! "Since in all likelihood you will be facing a Tidless Thursday, here's my American Idol predictions in advance. I believe we will see the continued growth of Scotty. James and Haley will mesmerize. I think Lauren will rise to the occasion. When it is over there will be a gigantic, collective silent awe. Everybody will look like a winner. On Thursday's results show there will be a duet that brings down the house featuring James and Haley and all of those who voted off James, yes James, will be stricken with extreme guilt. What a great season this is!" Pretty much on target except for the duet. This is a particularly great season, but not unlike all past seasons in one important aspect. At the end, the big voting blocs invariably win out over the best talent. From the beginning I have felt this is a Nashville year. This should have been the show when Scotty went. Haley may be the best on the stage now. And, as I said above Lauren rose to the occasion. Really rose. Cab you say "Daughtry"?

There appears to be a conflicting sub-culture in the Black community that promotes being cool as not doing well in school, not aspiring to college. That in general, getting ahead is not "Being black". Why do black leaders put up with the backward thinking? It is not good for anything. Period. And, BTW, too many white kids emulate this caricature of coolness and go on to defeat their own futures.

Is a tax payers skepticism towards big Gov. called Cyticism?

I had the opportunity to be quite close to Kelly of "Regis and...", and I have to say she's a pretty Ok person. Rigis is not bad either considering that he went to a most hated rival high school.

Any Pols who jump aboard the hysterical platforms to squish tax breaks that encourage exploration and future production of oil are not trying to solve inherent problems but merely looking to sell the rational side of their soul for votes.

In a survey among drivers about the electric car, the question was asked, "How many miles would you want from a single charge before you would buy an electric-only car?" The answer was 400 miles. Experts say to achieve that, the battery would have to be a large as the Statue of Liberty.

Reason #412 why I don't like NYC: On a sign in front of a parking garage in the city: "Special rates! $12.95 for 1/2 Hour!" Shoot me.

The new report for April retail says that sales dollars were up. The same report goes on to say that most of the dollars were the result of gas and food price increases. So, in essence, it wasn't necessarily a good report for retail in general.

Almost Near: Chapter 20 continues. --Samantha felt good about being in the comfortable Lobster Cove. She had slept well in her bed at Tucker's house. Went down to the docks for breakfast at Lillies and enjoyed the prattle and chatter with the town's people. They all seemed to enjoy seeing her again, but their first question was always, "Where's Tucker?"
"Oh, he'll be back soon. He's just away on a writing assignment." I would say.
And then they always said, "It's nice to have you back here too. We were worried about you, and so was Tucker. You shouldn't scare us liek that."
Samantha left the cafe with the newspaper editor Jim Caster and walked up the street. He seemed also curious about her leaving. "Well, Tucker said something that reminded me of my father. So I had the this urgent impulse to run off to see him."
"You are a mysterious character Samantha, but your smile brightens up thse old streets." He gave her a little hug and walked into his newspaper. She felt like running after that, and took off up the hills to her favorite spot under the big maple tree.
She was out of breath as she waded through the daisies to the tree. And then her face fell. Her heart ached. The heart with their initials had been marred terribly. Almost like with anger. Maybe he's really mad at me. She sat on the ground an leaned against the big trunk. her happy world faded.

During 0-Man's immigration campaign speech at the US/Mex border where he was ridiculing Repubs, someone in his audience of fawners yelled out, "They're Racists!" How awful. But, did the enlightened one who wants to bring us all together look down in dismay and and shake his head, "No, No,No, No?' No!

A new study about college education says that Student assistants using high tech interactive devices with almost no lecturing for demonstrations as opposed to Cerebral long time professors in tweeds are considered far more effective by students. So will the weeding out of the overpaid elite professors, the highest cost in the college industry, mean that tuition costs will tumble? Don't hold your breath.

The massive construction by the Hawaii highway department after receiving government stimulus money is turning that state in to Road Island. It's a shame.

Have you ever noticed that pipe smokers stand with one foot perpendicular to the other? It must be some kind of smoke induced muscle spasm.

I think "Bing", the search engine, is terminally confused.

And speaking of Google dominance, the big company with the funny name is going after Microsoft again, this time with a new PC operating system that among other things boots up in 8 seconds. It appears that Acer will be building the first PC's that are expected to perform faster with far fewer glitches. Microsoft appears to be entering the giant company, catch-up phase of its corporate existence. First the Tablets and now a direct competitor to the giant market it has owned.

Reading Between the Lines Movie Reviews:
--The Bridesmaids looks noisy to me. the main part of the sast is made up of women. How can this be anything else that =na chick flick with no redeeming social import to men. So I start negative. Annie's lifelong est friend is engaged and she wants to be the maid of honor. Annie, lovelorn and really broke, bluffs her way through the expensive and bizarre rituals. She'll show he friend and thee bridesmaids how far she will go for someone she loves.
--Priest, is about a legendary Warrior Priest from the last Vampire Wars who gives up his vows to venture out on an obsessive quest to rescue his niece kidnapped by a murderous pack of vampires. Over the top fantasy action. Probably good for the youths from late teens to 50.

The Answer:

Republicans eating their young department Continues:
I read the comments of Brendan Doherty who had just announced for the congress against teh dipsy doodle rookie Rep form RI Cicilini. He nabbed me when he said: "First of all, elected leaders must work together to foster a more friendly business environment so we can grow jobs. Not jobs that Government gives you, But (real) jobs created by companies using the latest technology....and plain old, hard work". Then I remmebered that I love John Laughlin who will be Doherty's opponent oin a primary. two good candiates for a change in this sate and they're running against each other. And the stone has rolled me bakc into the swamp.

Rhode Island is a Condo Association to which you don't want to belong. An obscure "Condo" committee (Here the State Retirement Board) has just voted a rule that would force condo owners (Taxpayers) to ante up hundreds of millions in an assessment (Forcing taxpayers, with "no representation" to ante up the money to make the Public Employ Pensions Whole) that would bail out a mismanaging Condo executive board.

I wrote that to make you feel that no matter how bad you think your Government is, there is always someone more oppressed. Vote for smaller government. It is the only sensible way out. Period.
