The United States of Intimidators.

Today's Tids Issue 2,358
Opening Stuff:
I don't know about you, but I find clerks in bagel shops kind of uppity. but then, I'm easily intimidated.

I'm all for the US of A outsourcing the running of the government to Netflix. This is a company that knows what it is doing...and is very consumer friendlily. If anything, the Gov should be very friendly with the people who pay their salaries. For instance, I can see Netflix running welfare on a trial, get acquainted basis. After acquiring the taste for a decent life on a limited basis offer, the person will be nudged into a job opportunity that has the potential of offering a great life. They would make the IRS human, Fema responsive, and think of the new ease of communications between the critical intelligence agencies. Everything would be on time and all waste would be eliminated. Guaranteed! Separation of State and Administration would be vital. No political appointments allowed. And if Netflix renegs, we can try Zappos.

"If you don't forgive, you spend your life in bitterness." This overheard from a fishmonger after Queen Elizabeth had stopped into his salmon stall to chat as part of her refreshing and energizing tour of Ireland. Makes sense to me.

The Question: If you need more evidence of America's decent into a cookie cutter world, you need look no further than Hollywood. This will be a record year for sequels. How many? Name the films that are in their 4th, 5th, 7th and 8th redux.

The Headlines:
--New Tornadoes Batter Midwest; Nearly 100 Dead In Joplin Mo.
--Icelandic Volcano Cloud Looms Over Europe Air Traffic System.

Oxymoron: Civil Unions. Have you ever been to a labor negotiation?

Back To More Stuff:
Scott Pelley is taking over the anchor at CBS. I have been leery of CBS News for years. With Pelley, there isn't a chance in hell I'll be ever watching. Frankly, as I think of it, 60 minutes would be pretty good if it wasn't for Steve Croft, Scott Pelley and Bob Simond.

Hey Trumpka! (Head of AFL/CIO) When you try to extort the Dem Party, as you did Friday, you gotta be more subtle. The knowledgablle public knows you guys bought the election and 0-Man gave you GM and other bennies in return. But threats are better left with baseball bats in back alleys as opposed to overtly in covert DC.

And, how about that Obama. He's out there urging democratic process for the middle easterners and condemning strong arm tactics by tyrants at the polls. But, here at home he's all for open voting in Union situations, which is essentially intimidation in a most undemocratic manner. Private voting is American. Open voting is an invitation to baseball bats in dark alleys.

Speaking of Irish trips, whose going to pay for 0-Man's Ireland trip to his ancestor's home town primarily to snag votes from the US Irish population.

And, will all of the news media being brilliantly used by the 0-Man campaign gang for trumped-up national talks, give equal time for all of the Republican candidates?. 60 Mins, at least, owes equal time for those puff ball "O" interviews which are purely political.

For all of you loyal baseball fans in those wonderful "I remember when" cities like KC, Baltimore, Cleveland and Milwaukee -- It was nearly impossible rooting for the Red Sox in the early 60's between the Ted and Yaz eras. There is always hope.

Go away interleague play. It was a lot more fun when they faced each other for the first time in the fall. Like this past weekend when they heralded the Cubs first visit to Fenway since 1918. Does anybody really remember? And those throw back uniforms? They looked like a Broadway choreographer's view og a ballplayer. And I believe, sincerely, that it was the reason the Red Sox lost Saturday night. They were embarrassed.

Almost Near: The daily installment of this most intriquing novel is missing today due to overcrowding in the writers muddled mind. We will be back tomorrow with Audrey. Tucker and the Quimpierre family. .

Stop with the lawsuits already! Nothing is going to happen til both sides start compromising on the $9 billion. I hate the big high draft pick salaries that bind teams for years even when the players are a bust. That, in addition to not losing the season, is the only thing that I have any feelings about. If tey want to keep the pay scale, then they have to eliminate all "no Cut" contracts for rookies.

If the high picks fall flat and get cut, they can always get jobs as California life guards.

The idea of the government adding a tax to driving based on miles accumulated is a punitive fine against citizens. If you think I'm making this up, check out some state house musings and White House rumblings.

The Answer:
There will be a wopping 27 this year. Those in their 4th transformation are Mission Impossible, Ghost, Pirates of..., On Stronger Tides, Scream, Spy Kids, All the Time in the World and Twilight Saga. 5th -- Fast Five, Final Destination, Puss in Boots, X-Men and Winnie the Pooh. 7th -- The Muppets, The Rise of the Apes. And then, there is the almighty #8 for Harry Potter. The Final four in the competitio for all-time best are Toy Story 2, Empire Strikes Back. Dark Knight 2 and Godfather II. Godfather beat out empire for #1. Frankly I never hear of some of thes movies at all!

I'm just not sure that Obama understands the mentality in the middle east. Oh, wait a minute, he has to understand. He's the President. Maybe it's just that he doesn't want to understand. He seems smitten with and determined to make the Muslims palatable to Americans.

My 4 1/2 year old grandson came up to me this morning. "Granddad, your cough is irritating me." Then he turned his head in the direction where my Brahms CD was playing. "And, granddad, your music is frustrating me." And that was Brahms. Mozart I'd understand.

Later that morning as I was driving to the store taking one of my patented scenic routes, I heard after about ten minutes of driving this voice from the back seat, "Granddad, I have this hypothesis. You are going this way to look at the pretty houses. Right Granddad?" Life is tough.
