If there is no crisis, a politician will manufacture one.

Today's Tids Issue 3,350
Opening Stuff:

There’s something special about the word love. It isn’t fleeting, but eternal. It is a treasure chest that is full of the good, and the bad. If there was love, it nestles in the heart forever. You see love in tears of joy that trickle down cheeks. The heart pounds with love. Love makes you stronger, more caring. Just a few thoughts as I open my eyes to a new day.

I believe in climate change simply because the climate has changed repeatedly since the beginning of time. That tends to support the arguments that what we see as different may just be the beginning of a new bio-geochemical cycle. Rather than, I Suppose, that man’s erring ways have changed the earth and we need a suffocating government to put an end to it.

There are just too many knowledgeable sources from here and around the world saying that the current US Admin hasn’t a clue about what to do with ISIS. That’s what happens when you go 100% PC – you don’t leave room at all for all out creative thinking. It’s always about, will it hurt the election. And, that sucks if you want to be truly great, by doing great things for all people.

The Question:
“Double Q” Day: First, the easy one – What was the full name of the woman who’s love forced England’s Edward Duke of Windsor to abdicate his throne? Second, name the all time Greatest TV Game show hosts.

It appears there has beene a significant rise in STD’s in Rhode Island. Health Officials are attributing that increase to a correlation of an increase in the use of “Hook-up” Dating Websites. (I case you aren’t familiar, a Hook-up site in the instance cited is a Website that brings strangers together for non-committal sexual relationships.) This Hook-up concept is actually creeping along within out younger society where hooking-up is a popular pastime in college. So, there you have it, a new cultural segment. Expect a politician to jump on that growing crisis, that is if they can get away long enough from their own DC Hook-ups.

So where does “Hook-up” leave romance? Would the Beatles tune be – “Hook-up, Hook-up, Hook-up, all you need is Hook-up”. Or would Ryan O’Neal and Ali McGraw meet in “Hook-up Story”. Would Philly reconfigure the LOVE Sculpture into Hook-up? How about “Hook-up is a Many Splendored Thing”? Or, is that many splintered thing? Personally, I’ll take pure unadulterated romance, where you feel your heart bounce at the twinkle in a pair of caring eyes. With gossamer wings and silly goofy things. “Love will keep us together,” but hook-ups breakup.

There are two kinds of people in this world: Those who judge a good hamburger by the quality and taste of the meat, and those who judge a good hamburger by the veggies piled on top of it.

Just to show you how perception can corrupt a mind, my first thought when I saw the news about the Chinese river cruise accident was that it was a government action to get rid of intelligent older people who may be giving the communist regime hard time. But, they would never do that in China, would they?

I think that Maxwell House should be thinking of a packaging redesign. This one time, out and out leader in the coffee biz looks pretty drab on the shelves next the expensive upstarts, and even the slightly brighter traditional, Folgers and Chock full of Nuts. The store brands have crisp designs too. But, that old light blue just doesn’t say flavor burst to me.

When accountants run company’s creative development, it is often stifled when the edict from on high says, if it costs this, don’t even think about it.

Then of course, a lot of great creative genius is doing something huge with nothing.

The Red Sox were put together with a spread sheet, and it is showing.

I like to go downtown and buy a nearly 2 pound plastic jug of Utz Cheese Balls, and then walk down the street, sit on the park bench in front of the Natural Food store and eat them while writing Tids notes on my little pad. Of course, the expressions of passing healthy type customers are generally ones of exasperation and contempt. Of course, I hold in my stomach and suck in my cheeks so I can look as drawn as a healthy person…which tends ot make them madder. But basically, I think what gets them all is the twinkle in my eyes as I savor the succulent cheese puffs. Life is good.

KIngs fall in love. Mere mortals hook-up.

One of the great battles of the next couple of years could be between Volvo and the UAW in South Carolina. The Swedish company picked SC because of its Right to Work Laws, and it is said that It will not abide the UAW standing in its way. And then there is Governor Haley, a fierce opponent of Unions. She in fact has brought thousands of jobs from many new companies into the Palmetto State simply because of her pro business atmosphere. And it seems the workers who get the job, the well paying jobs, like what she is doing. But, UAW President Dennis Williams is saying that Haley should gird for a big fight. He notes that “They (Volvo) are very conscious of human rights and civil liberties.” That was after he originally blasted the company for picking South Carolina. When you think about this, Williams should be real happy for the workers who are getting jobs because of Volvo’s selection and the company’s caring ways, just as he should be for new employees of Toyotas,  BMW and others in other right to work states. But, noooo, he needs dues, and that is what these are all about these days – not the worker happiness and income…which looks vry promising in SC.

It is pretty much a recognized fact that men seek out coddling wherever they can find it.

The Answer:
First, the American Wallace Ward Simpson had Edward choosing love over power. Second, There are a couple of lists around, but they all have the same basic groups, but in different orders. I liked Richard Dawson and Family Feud, so I picked the list that had him #1. But you can argue that. After Richard, we had Bob Barker – The Price is Right (#1 on other lists), Alex Trebek -- Jeopardy (Not a big Alex fan), Gene Rayburn – Match Game (Always lied Gene), Chuck Woolery –Love Connection, Monty Hall – Let’s Make a Deal, Pat Sajak – Wheel of Fortune (Watch it everynight), Groucho Marx – You Bet your Life (Watched religiously and laughed riotously as a kid),Peter Marshall – Hollywood Squares, Dick Clark -- $10,000 Pyramid (Remember when $10K was a big prize?), Jack Barry – Twenty One, Bob Eubanks – Newlywed Game. Some others who get mentioned are Dennis James, Regis Philbin, Alan Ludden and Guy Smiley. And then here is the guy I always thought was the best, true legend – an Emcee who has hosted more game shows than any other person in history, the devilish and witty Bill Cullen. How can Cullen not be in the Top five?

Speaking of Family Feud, the Gronkowski Family, four boys and dad, are scheduled soon for the program.

You have to wonder if Romeo and Juliette were really in love or just hooking up, and that is the real reason why the families were upset.
