There’s just too much hate; And it’s not just Terrorists.

Today's Tids Issue 3,363
Opening Stuff:

God, I just hate it when a madman takes out the innocent. How can hate be so deep? It is beyond my comprehension. I see those faces with lifeless eyes. I feel the torment in the hearts of all of those who loved them, left behind. The tears run down my cheeks and pool at my feet, mingling with the blood of the slain.

President Obama said all of the right words in remembering the victims of the that church tragedy; consoling a disbelieving nation.. And then, before the tears had dried and turned to salt upon stunned faces, he launched into an political rage against guns. Rubbing slat into open wounds, when love was what was needed most. Wouldn’t it be nice if all politicians’ spoke through their hearts until the tulmult died.  Why are all politicians so insincere? Why are personal agendas more important than humanity? I was listening to his words, feeling his heart, commending his sincerity. Then it was all interrupted by a commercial message.

The Pope’s environment encyclical to me just sounds like more mindless rich versus poor rhetoric. Sorry folks, but that’s what I hear. It seems to me that I remember in Gospels God praising peope who used the gifts that God provided. The carbon based energy that appears to be so disgusting to new breeds is the same energy that was an amazing discovery in the past; an enormous discovery that made the lives of all, rich and poor around the world, better. There are thieves and connivers in all segments of life including the priesthood. The amount of money people earn is not detriment to goodness. To paint al of business black is to not see the light in the hearts of so many who give so much.

What’s the difference between a nicely dressed man on a tricycle and a poorly dressed man on a bicycle? A tire.

Warning: As you enter this weekend, relaxed, confident that you have earned the rest and relaxation – be prepared for the abrupt awakening on Monday to the beginnings of Winter. Your body will feel transformed as it experiences withdrawal from longer days of sunlight; as the days grow shorter. Unpack your fleece. Snow is near. Feeling hemmed in yet?

The Question:
Despite the jokes, there are some pretty great female race car drivers. Who was known as the “First Lady of Drag Racing” (Hint: there was a movie about her.). Who was the first woman Indy Driver? Who was the first woman to finish an American LeMans Series race?  The first woman to win an open wheel race n North America. Who was the first woman ever to get a driver’s license? Bonus: When and Where was the First Father’s Day? To whom was it attributed?

Oh yeah, we had a technical problem yesterday Morn where some of you received the Tids late. In an effort to be moderately humorous when reissuing the later edition, the Tids Editor admits to letting more than several Typos slip through.

I think the Supreme Court missed the point allowing the Texas Court ruling banning “Rebel” flags on license plates. Some people see the well known flag as anti-black. Many more see it as a symbol of courage among those of the South in grey uniforms. Those who fought for their beliefs and died. About 140,000 died (Viet Nam 58K.) Free speech is free speech – not Politically Correct speech. PC is what the SC upheld yesterday.

Here’s why Black markets begin, Department:
In shore areas, people often rent their cottages for a week or more during the summer. In RI, the legislature now thinks it a good idea to tax those rentals – 13%! But here’s the real big government intimidation factor: If a person were to rent for just one day, they are now required to submit monthly forms to the government regardless if they ever rent again. If they don’t or forget, they are subject to a penalty of $5K per day! I may move to Texas just to get away from tyranny. That is pretty disgusting.

Brian Williams has dropped further than Tiger Woods.

Quote of the day: The Uncle of church massacre killer Dylann Roof says, “If he gets the death penalty, I’ll push the button myself.”

There is a new cockamamie idea in this town of mine where Pols suggest that pedestrians, bicyclists and car drivers wave to each other to cut down on accidents. Say What? Basically, if bicyclists obeyed the laws of the road, skateboarders had a sense of responsible consideration and pedestrians didn’t assume entitlement to the streets and looked both ways like mom always said, there would be fewer accidents. “Oops, I didn’t see him…I was waving at a pedal taxi driver and a horse drawn carriage got in the way.”

This may be a possibility for advanced trivia contests in the future: The first person to audition for the last American Idol show was Vanessa Pacheco of New Bedford Mass trying out yesterday in Providence. File that away.

A doctor told me that if a doctor you are seeing resists your getting a second opinion, then immediately go out and get a second opinion.

The airless football travesty doesn’t seem like much at all after reading about the St. Louis Cardinals invasion of the Houston Astros computer system. It is pretty scary to consider how many people are capable of prying into others lives and businesses.

By the way, many more players are coming out to say, that the Patriots win because they work harder, or at least as hard as any team in the league. Winning, they are saying, isn’t about air in footballs.

One of the hardest things about writing this thing every day is coming up with new, good puns. I have used so many puns and other word play humor over the years that the only stuff worth printing are some that appear entirely by accident. I’ve Puntificated enough.

Reading Between the lines Movie Reviews:
--Everybody is raving about Inside Out, the best Pixar film since Toy Story. It’s about growing up and details the tale of Riley a young girl uprooted from the Midwest and thrust into San Fran where her dad is starting a new job. The other stars are her emotions Joy( Amy Poehler), Fear (Bill Hader), Anger (Lewis Black), Disgust (Mindy Kaling) and Sadness (Phylliss Smith). Sounds like a downer to me, but I assure you it isn’t.
--Dope was a Sundance fave. It’s about a black kid in a tough neighborhood trying to survive while juggling college applications, academic interviews and SAT’s. A chance invite to an underground party may become the adventure that changes him from geek to being a dope…and ultimately himself. Supposed to be charming.
--The critics like The Overnight better than the audiences. It’s a comedy about a couple’s attempt to acclimate their lives to LA (Why would anybody want to do that?) by spending an increasingly bizarre evening at the parents of their son’s new friend.

The Answer:
Burlington Vermont’s Shirley Muldowney was one tough driver and took on the all in drag racing. Janet Guthier was ten first women in both the Indy 500 and the Daytona 500. Venezuelan Milka Duno was the frist to finish the Lemans race in Detroit, and that was just one of over 8-9 significant world class firsts.  Brit Katherine Legge won the 2005 Toyota Atlantic Championship in Long beach Cal, and also had many hist9orc first throughout Europe. The first woman to recive a US drivers license was Geneva Delphine Mudge who did so in New York in 1898. Mudge was also the first woman ever to have an accident! Bonus: The first dad’s day was in 1910 in Spokane Washington and it is attributed to the wisdom of Sonora Louise Smart Dodd.

Remember your fathers.
