Precedents.

Today's Tids Issue 4,632
Not so fast:

I like the word smile.

If I’m authorizing a lot of expenditures right now, I’m directing them mainly to Medical Research. Every other expense is a band-aid, but medical solutions last for forever, or at least until the next time when a killer germ escapes into the global community.

Are you thinking that your life should be more meaningful? Buy a dictionary.

MLK in 1963 wrote, “Injustice anywhere is a threat to injustice everywhere”. That indeed is a profound thought and probably quite meaningful today as Governments have taken over daily living and squashed an economy, in the twinkling of an eye. While King’s insightful statement was meaningful in a different context, it serves today as a clear warning about what may happen if we ignore the powerful consequences of precedent setting societal alterations. One significant danger to a free society could be the acceptance of Government largess as an alternative to self-motivation and creative industriousness.

Just in case you missed it, Demonstrators in Lansing Michigan protested stay at home orders with signs like “”Liberty once lost is lost forever” and  “Security without Liberty is Prison.”

If it feels like life is just standing still you’ll be happy to know that NASA has just discovered a new “Earth-Like” planet, and they are thrilled! It’s called Kepler-1649c and is the same size as the earth in a position with its star that would enable the existence of water on its surface. It has the same temperatures as our globe. It is 300 light years away. The excitement comes from knowing that there is now a distinct possibility of discovering another planet like ours with life. And hopefully with a free and open society unsquashed by politicians.

The Question:
What are now the favorite “Extremely Long Boards Games” to pass the time?

A key ingredient to life success as always been internal motivation. Today, it is the key to existence.

With all of these celebs sitting around in their magnificent homes with nothing to do, it must be pretty easy for TV program producers to get an interview for a celebrity TV host sitting around in a magnificent home with nothing to do.

When the power went on at the big new mall, it was a current event!

Wrinkles should merely indicate where the smiles have been. --Mark Twain.

The weird world of today will probably produce more than a few permanent changes. Among them will be more companies opting for work-at-home business plans. Autos may more than ever be sold on-line. Communities may move away from economies based on tourism and consumer services to economies that persevere through interruptions. But, we won’t be wearing masks forever, and we will be shaking hands again, and giving hugs.

Sir, would you like a red or white wine with your meal? I don’t care, I’m color blind!

Couples live inches apart in their homes, but some new tough restrictions would require that they must be ten feet apart when shopping.

Up until a couple of months ago the big push was for public transportation to save the world from climate change. Now researchers are saying that the reason for the explosion of coronavirus cases in New York is the subway. Carrying germs rapidly through metropolises, express and local.

I‘m sorry abut yesterday’s report on CV deaths/M. I should have reported China’s number in “Quotes”!

Here the latest example of why media is annoying. The Gov has sent checks to about 80 Million Americans, but the headline says. “Some cheeks sent to wrong bank accounts.” “Some”? Two dozen, a hundred, or one person who got himself a viral complaint video.

History repeats, Department:
In 1973, Johnny Carson in his monologue said: “You know we have all kinds of shortages these days. But have you heard the latest? I’m not kidding. I saw it in the papers. There is an acute shortage of Toilet paper.” And yes, that single comment caused what is known as “The great 1973 toilet paper shortage.”! Johnny had to come back and apologize, saying, “I don’t want be remembered as the man who created a false Toilet paper shortage…There is no Shortage”. Ah, the power of mind infections.

The Answer:
#1 is the old standard, Monopoly. Next is Risk followed by Civilization, Axis and Allies, Star Wars: Rebellion Board game, The Republic of Rome, Talisman: The Magical Quest Game, Arkham Horror, Mansions of Madness and The World in Flames. Did you know that there is a boardgame named, Pandemic? Old standards like Sorry, Clue, Trivial Pursuit and Scrabble are down the list.

Be careful what you ask for because a politician will over promise it for the future.
