There is always something in the cupboard.

Today's Tids Issue 4,711

I learned something new today. What could be better:

There are mornings you lie in bed wondering what kind of day it’s going to be. Suddenly your eyes pop open and you see there before you see an inkling of something you could never imagine. All of a sudden you walk into another day worth living. A day with nothing to do at all becomes gift. And it doesn’t need much if you understand the power of life’s ability to satisfy; a day to be alive and be enamored by the potential of all the good that is there. Maybe I’m being a little too philosophical here, but sometimes we forget the important things life. The little things that mean so much

There were some good chuckles in the newspaper this morning. Some mornings are funnier than others but if you don’t read the comics, you miss one great opportunity to start the day with a smile.

From a Reader:

“Due to Covid, we are asking rioters to work from home and destroy their own property.”

And now Seattle’s first black Police Chief has announced her  after the insecure yahoos on the city council actually voted to defund police operations. Now, from this poor souls point of view, I can only determine from reports out there before our astonished eyes that there ae more brazen criminals invading the once civilized streets of great cities. And Seattle is cutting back on one proven method of keeping honest people safe. Is that about it? Is that the new trend in America – Anarchy for all. I hope not. Has Seattle looked at Chicago lately

The Zamboni driver went missing but he was sure to resurface.

The Question:

You hear a lot about the “Power Five Football Conferences”, especially now as the big decision about the 2020 season is upon them. What are the Power 5 conferences?

The Headlines:

--New Optimism For Stimulus And Vaccine Progress Has Markets Roaring Again.

--Russia Registers Firs Coronavirus Vaccine.

--“Big Ten” Cancels 2020 Football Season; Other Power Five Conferences May Follow.

--Beirut Remembers Blast Victims.

--Florida Covid Cases For Children Jumps 137% In One Month – 39,735 From 16,179.

--RI Covid Cases Continue to Climb.

It’s worth a trip to the grocery store to pick up a package of “Pure Joy” Cinnamon Bread. Butter it, toast it and smile.

It is becoming apparent that Americans have more proverbial cash underneath their mattress than ever before. This means that a potential strong rebound in the economy is not just the optimistic dreams of investors. There is untapped money out there and many people eager to spend it.

This morning Trump may have really lost the woman vote when he decided to say, “Biden is insulting men everywhere by picking a woman as Vice President.” If I recall there are more woman voters than men.

There are a lot of truly wonderful people from places like Iran and Lebanon who must look back across the ocean with tears in their eyes. It’s sad what governments can do.

I’m reading about premiere athletes opting to avoid playing hits year from pro sports like baseball, football, Soccer and tennis. That leaves the second-tier athletes in those sports with a choice: Risk your health for an opportunity to find the limelight while the leaders are absent. Or, play it safe.

Upon his retirement the barber received a golden comb as a parting gift.

My right click on my mouse stopped working and now it will be even harder to correct all my typos.

Halfway Publishing: It’s one thing to hire great writers and we have some good ones here at the Providence Journal. It’s another thing to make a paper relevant. In today’s world, most of us know a lot more than what is published in morning newspapers. And as papers decline in popularity it will get worse as publishers look at cost cutting. A growing problem seems to be earlier printing deadlines. At least that’s how it seems as events that end at reasonable times are seldom reported the next morning. Let’s face, we all know scores and results and details of many events, but we (At least I do) look for newspaper s to give us opinions and a little color beyond data.. And now we don’t even get that until another day after the event. So, if you want to be behind the times, read newspaper.

Newspapers are dear to my heart, and maybe my heart cares too much about things. But a part of my soul will be gone when the last printing press stops humming.

Obtuse-iveness is a definite problem of mine. So is making up words that don’t exist.

The good news is that because of my right click problem the  “Word” grammar police aren’t working. The bad news is that because of my right click problem the “Word” grammar police aren’t working. Maybe they have been defunded.

The Answer:

The Power conferences include the college football teams who are members of the Football Bowl Subdivision. It’s about money, not academics. They are The Atlantic Coast Conference, Big Ten Conference, Big 12 Conference, Pac 12 Conference and Southeastern Conference. they control everything

I’ve been writing this issue of Tids for so long I forgot where I started. Oh yeah, always make the most of your day no matter how little you see in it. I hate it when I’m preachy.
