Let’s hear it for the Big “V”!

Today's Tids Issue 5,029

The sweet smell of Hope:

I guess Americas don’t like being bludgeoned by the people behind Mr. “I’m a moderate who will unite us all”. Yes, Americans know a progressive takeover when they see it. They still have their own minds. Even in New Jersey where the incumbent Dem Gov Paul Murphy was supposed to sail barely untouched to victory, the Repub challenger Jack Ciattarelli, at least at last reading, was up by a handful of votes. Americans do get fed up with Government people assuming the people are malleable to their ideological whims. That we are in their pockets no matter what they do. I keep on extolling Joe Machin, but he is a symbol of Americans who have the guts to resist. Now maybe Nancy will put through the infrastructure bill free from the restrictive social spending attachment, because this first win by the Repubs should mean her speakership is next.

I hate this snow! No… wait… I love this snow. Signed, Bi-Polar Bear.

In addition to digesting voter action and reaction, today is all about the Fed.

The Question:

Who was Horatio Seymour?

The Headlines:

--Markets In Limbo Awaiting Expected Fed Tapering Announcement Today; Less Liquidity Would Slow Stock Price Growth.

--Repub Glen Youngkin Wins Highly Competitive Virginia Race Despite Dems Bringing In All Their Biggest Powerbrokers; New Jersey Gov Race May Not be Decided Today.

-- Voters In Minneapolis Say Loud And Clear Not To Scrap The Police Departments.

The problem with the liberal left is that they only listen to themselves and rarely to the people across the full range of demographics.

Oops! I forgot to type in the answer to last Friday’s second question, “Who were the top five characters in the Grey’s Anatomy series?”. Here they are: Number One is  Alex Karev followed by Arizona Robbins, Jo Wilson, Derek Shepherd, Maggie Pierce, April Kepner, Meredith Grey, Richard Webber, Stephanie Edwards and Christina Yang. Sorry folks.

Whatever happened to Dennis Miller? Did Hollywood left cancel him into oblivion? Actually, Denis now has a show on RT America called “Miller Plus 1”. He replaced Larry King in this interview show format. The RT America Network is out of Moscow and is funded by the Russian government. I think he one great funny political commentator, and all-around funnyman too. BTW, Miller is listed as 21st on Comedy Central's 100 greatest stand-up comedians of all time,

We have been living in a Scarlet Letter society for a while now, and perhaps that is part of the reason why tables turned in Virginia and elsewhere. People just got tired of the cancelation of people, careers, institutions ad history irrational often maniacal overreaction, without the opportunity for due process.

I’m terrified of elevators and I’m taking steps to avoid them.

It seems that people in charge are beginning to resist vaccination mandates. The punishment, basically taking away people’s livelihoods, is much too severe. Ad reasonable people are recognizing this.

Climate publicists must be working overtime to keep enthusiasm high for the Glasgow conferences. But here in the USA the election is real news.

In headiness, the press this morning is touting that Taiwanese Michelle Wu is the first woman of color elected Mayor of Boston. I would expect she, daughter of immigrant from Taiwan, would prefer being known as a damn smart person who got elected because she was seen as the best of them all. Regardless of this insane, infatuation with often demeaning identity politics. A guy I know pretty well, so of Chinese immigrants Alan Fung, has been a successful Mayor for quite a while and he has never been called a man of color. He was just Alan, a smart ad nice guy.

Cows have hooves because they lactose.

Maybe the most significant vote yesterday was in Minneapolis, the birthplace of “Defund the Police”. The voters decided that was probably the worst idea in the history of ideological politics. And besides, they got tired of the criminals being in charge. Across the nation police are taking a huge sigh of relief.

And perhaps former NYC police officer was elected because the people liked the idea of fighting criminals again.

Politics may have moved away from big bosses making all of the decisions in smoke filled back rooms, but the Madoffs of college football hasn’t. This morn we got the Bowl National Championship ratings. They are Georgia, Alabama, Michigan State and Oregon. Incredulously they moved #2 Cincinnati from the “Minor Leagues” down to six and Ohio State up to 5. Even more mysterious is the dropping of former #3 Oklahoma all the way down to 8. A playoff of eight would be ok with me. You got to give teams like Cincinnati to prove it on the field, rather just arbitrarily making assumptions about them, like perhaps in the Scarlet Letter. It couldn’t be that there is money involved here, could there?

For chemists, alcohol is not a problem, it is a solution.

The Answer:

Horatio Seymour was a former NY Governor and the Dem Candidate who lost the 1868 Prudential race to US Grant. Few people have old Horatio etched in their minds, but he was quite the force in Democrat politics for quite a while and at the age of 74 a big supporter of Grover Cleveland. Seymore was a big supporter of the Union Army and later Johnson’s reconstruction policy, but an often critic of Abe.  He lost his first NY Gov bid to Washington Hunt. I’d better check Ancestry!

Isn’t it great the way America has the ability to turn itself around? Have a wonderful, hopeful day.
