Walking along a mountain trail.

Today's Tids Issue 3,449
Opening Stuff:

Wistful is an intriguing word. It sounds soft and pleasant but is often melancholy, sad. It’s wondering of paths not taken. It would be Charlie Brwon looking back at the time he didn’t have the courage to ask the cute little red haired girl in the front row for a date. It’s remembering your youth, and feeling the scenes that are no longer there. It’s looking out at a new world we may not comprehend, wishing it could be what it was when it seemed so perfect. Being wistful can make you mad, bring on a big smile, warm your heart. I like the word. But sometimes it can be too deep for me.

There is o truth to the rumor that environmentalists are urging the shutdown of European refugee camps because of heavy smoke emissions from cooking over open fires.

The so-called “Adult” movies are ramping up for the Fall, with the first, Spies on a Bridge, being a winner. The good news is that “Adult” doesn’t refer to nudity and violence but to the need to use brains while viewing. The other one I’m interested in is “Secret in their Eyes”, an FBI Cold Case saga. The rest for your perusal: The Beasts of No Nation – Boy grows up when he becomes soldier; Crimson Peak – Old fashioned Gothic horror; Burnt – Comeback of fallen super chef; Suffragette – Title tells it all; Our Brand is Crisis – male/female political operatives face off in South American election; Brooklyn – 50’s Irish immigrant loves her new life until events in Ireland call; Spotlight – Boston newsmen bring down Catholic church in sex scandal tale; Trumbo – Rejuvenation of 40’s Blacklisted screen writer; By the Sea – Joli/Pitt tyr to save marriage; The 33 – Chilean Coal Miners; Carol – Two women face ambiguous sexuality.

The Question:
Double “Q” Day: 1. Who was the first President of the Republic of Texas?

I’d like to watch the Hillary hearings so that tomorrow I can give you all an honest first hand report, but I doubt if I can watch the “Cackler” that long.

It was weird last week and the Tids Pickers struggled through to end up 8-6. (We are now 57-34 – 62.7%) The marquis event tonight is missing a few light bulbs from the display as San Fran and Seattle are flailing. The two former West Coast powers are now both struggling to stay relevant. I’m picking Seattle at home…again. The big game of the weekend is probably the NE Pats against their annual arch-rival from NY, The Jets. The Jets “D” is very tough and the Pats “O” is weekend by key injuries. I still like the Pats at home. Rex Ryan is practicing a cockney accent so he can gain center stage in London. It’s for sure the teams won’t. I go Buffalo. The Redskins should bet the Bucs, but it will be close. One of the tougher picks may be the Saints and Colts. I’m going Saints. I like the Falcons to bounce back over the Titans, the Vikes to continue improving against the Lions, the Steelers to beat the suddenly hapless Chiefs and the Rams to take the heart throbbing Browns. The Dolphins looked much better, but I sense the Texans putting their promise together. Houston. The Chargers/Raiders, another old fashioned rivalry, will be a war but SD will win. The game of the week Two could be the Eagles and undefeated Panthers. The Panthers are gaining confidence, but they are ready for their frist loss. I thought the Cardinals were invincible, but they are still good enough to keep the Ravens losing. And the big question: Can being back home cure the ills of the NY Giants as the hungry Dallas cowboys come to town. I’m saying yes, unless Roger Staubach comes back for Dallas.

PC is Killing the Children, Department:
A renown engineer I know was examining child proof packaging. He noticed a significant difference between an older and a newer Ibuprofen bottle entry system. The early “Child Proof cap had a written guide telling adults how to line up the the arrows. Now, in an attempt at achieving a universal language which would not discriminate against anybody, the instructions are in a simple picture format that even a young child would understand. Yikes! Have we gone mad?

The only way a new set of golf clubs would help my game is if they came with a strap which would attach to my head to keep me from raising up on every shot. They call me “The Peeker”.

Perish the thought that I would ever be accused of racial profiling, but it appears to me that about 97% of all cars with New York license plates speeding through RI driven by Hispanics are loaded with drugs. The new definition of Stupid: Drawing undo attention to a car full of illegal drugs by driving 20 30 miles over the speed limit.

The Parking  Lot: Chapter 23 continues…
Fred was definitely nervous. This was reality and political acuity meant little to an emotionless face with a big gun. Jerry got rougher once they were out in the parking area, grabbing Fred’s upper arm with a vice-like hand. It hurt like hell, but Fred tried to pretend he was tough. He didn’t think it would work. He let te arm go. “Get in”. Fred opened the door and sat, snuggling up close to the door after it was shut.
“Where are we going?” Fred asked tryi g to keep his voice strong.
“You’ll know when we get there.” The car hummed and goon down shifted several times as they flew into corners escaping rural Tiverton. Providenc approached. Fred tried again.
“We going to see Rackovic?” He didn’t expect an answer now, and frankly didn’t know what to do with an answer if he got it. He reached into his pocket and felt his cell phone. His link. He palmed it, and slid it out and down his leg by the door. His hand paused as he watched the intense Jerry, eyes ahead. Without apparent movement, he managed to slide the phone into his tight elastic sock.
